Thanks, I figured as much. In EDBTR "-w" works as does "deepcolor". I was hoping for more of an answer to the "why" from a DirectX guru.
Specifically, how was the "-dd_sw" switch coded (C++?) over time to adapt to the evolution of Windows?
The "direct draw software emulation" toggle in EDBTR does nothing in Windows 10, and we are trying to fix this for an official patch.
I believe the deepColor switch was already in there when we inherited the code from 2X3. Some of the codes already were and those would probably be in other 2X3 products too. However we added a number of codes to AE that aren't in other 2X3 products. XP was the standard when most of those flags were added and there has been very little done with them since. I would love to get in there and fix it, but I just haven't had the time.
