B-17 Flying Fortress G-BEDF Sally B is the last remaining airworthy B-17 in Europe.

A definite highlight. So graceful in flight.

Probably my favourite plane to see flying the whole day. It had a grumbly sort of top fuel dragster sound to the engine, different than anything else out there. It was zippy and much more dynamic than I'd imagined from a Wildcat, but this is an FM-2, which were supposedly much more manoeuvrable and higher performance all around. (If only in game!)

Another absolute favourite was the Cat. She lazed around in big slow turns as one of the last planes before the Balbo finale.

Just thought of the sight of one of these birds on the horizon after floating for a week in a dinghy circled by sharks, delirious and parched. Wow.

The final event was the Balbo. A formation of almost all of the fighters assembled together flying in formation!!

The sound of this was beyond description. Powerful and moving. We walked back to the station as they formed and they went over us twice, low, and closer than they would have been at the field. Just jaw-dropping!

Another one for you!

If anyone wants any of these (or requests for individual planes that were there) I have almost all and would be happy to send a full quality printable image.
