Apbarog, can you do the following in DBB-B?

In DaBigBabes C, if you withdraw the following Allied air groups on December 8, 1941, you get:

19th BG (B-17) in San Francisco – 26 points
7th BG (B-17) in San Francisco - 68 points
Hudson Det – Rabaul - 24 points
Empire boats – Moresby - 42 points
Hudson detachment – Sydney - 23 points
Beaufort recon – Kuantan - 12 points

All of these are probably the same as what I'm seeing. Here's what I saw and why:

19 BG - was 23 points for me, but didn't included the DET unit in it
7 BG - didn't see the points message
Hudson Det Rabaul - yes, 24
Empire at Moresby - yes, 42
Hudson at Sydney - I saw 29, but there were 2 Hudson groups, I withdrew the other one first, and planes went to other, so yes, probably the same.
Beaufort recon Kuantan - yes, 12

Check if the 7BG in San Fran has some detachment to attach. If so, attach it and then the withdraw button should be active.

Also:

Walrus in Hong Kong- fly to Kweilin (China), withdraw -22 points
Vildebeest in Hong Kong - fly to Kweilin (China), withdraw - 18 points

Both groups cannot be withdrawn in Hong Kong.

8 Dec 41

Bataan was mined by enemy subs. I anticipated this and sent 4 AMs from Manila at full speed, and they got there before the great Manila exodus occurred. All mines swept.

Near Malacca on the west side of Malaysia, I-121 spots AMC Kanimlba fleeing at high speed from Singapore. One torpedo hits. Then I-121 reengages and gets another hit with a torpedo, sinking the AMC. Subs on the west side now, good to know. I just dropped some mines in the area. Could get a sub.

Mersing is invaded, as expected. Mersing starts with 2 units, but neither has any combat value. Nothing can be done with this opening gambit. Singapore will be cut off and eliminated quickly, having no chance to even build any fort levels.

Clark is effectively swept by Zeros again. Air defense is just about gone.

Bettys and Nells attack Singapore's airfield and port. No CAP flew.

Allied aircraft losses
Vildebeest III: 4 damaged
Buffalo I: 15 damaged
Buffalo I: 2 destroyed on ground
Hudson I: 1 damaged
Blenheim IV: 1 damaged
Blenheim IV: 1 destroyed on ground

Allied Ships
DD Encounter, Bomb hits 2, heavy damage
TK British Judge, Bomb hits 1
xAK Silverbeech, Bomb hits 1, on fire
AMC Manoora, Bomb hits 2, heavy damage
AG Pangkor, Bomb hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
AMc Rahman, Bomb hits 1, and is sunk

Airbase hits 4
Airbase supply hits 1
Runway hits 16
Port hits 1

Clark is then bombed by Bettys and Nells. Zeros escorted, but they weren't needed. Almost all B-17s are damaged and will remain so. I take a chance and rail transfer one squadron to Batangas, hoping to fly out a few after repair, if Aurorus doesn't catch on. I disbanded the other squadron.

Some Allied ships fled Singapore to Bengkalis, but didn't get away. Nells flew a long sortie and sank a few ships.

Then lots of Kates from KB hit Singapore's port. All ships other than the tiny ones were already damaged.

Allied Ships
ML No. 311, Bomb hits 1, and is sunk
ML No. 310, Bomb hits 1, and is sunk
xAK Silverbeech, Bomb hits 1, heavy fires, heavy damage
xAK Demodocus, Bomb hits 2, heavy fires
AMC Manoora, Bomb hits 2, heavy fires, heavy damage
xAK Wulin, Bomb hits 3, on fire, heavy damage
AG Vyner Brooke, Bomb hits 1, heavy fires, heavy damage
DM Stronghold, Bomb hits 1, and is sunk
TK Mobilfuel, Bomb hits 2, heavy damage
AM Ballarat, Bomb hits 1, and is sunk
DD Encounter, Bomb hits 2, heavy fires, heavy damage
TK British Judge, Bomb hits 1, on fire
MMS-51, Bomb hits 1, and is sunk

The Allies did have one positive combat today. B-17s from Mindanao hit Babeldaob's port. There was no CAP and there were ships in port.

Japanese Ships
AD Gyoko Maru, Bomb hits 1, on fire
DMS W-7, Bomb hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
xAKL P-11, Bomb hits 1, and is sunk
CM Yaeyama, Bomb hits 1, heavy fires
CM Itsukushima, Bomb hits 1, on fire
ARD Meyungs ARD, Bomb hits 1, heavy fires, heavy damage

Japanese Ships
PB Edo Maru, Bomb hits 1, on fire
xAK Macassar Maru, Bomb hits 1, on fire
DMS W-8, Bomb hits 1, on fire
xAK Shinsei Maru, Bomb hits 2, heavy fires
AO Iro, Bomb hits 1
CM Itsukushima, Bomb hits 1, on fire

The B-17s will try again today. Aurorus has been so aggressive with his moves, he may not be able to backfill Babeldaob with fighters in one day. If he even trys. The B-17s will probably evacuate after this repeat attempt.

Bettys, Vals and Kates then sank more ships near Singapore.

Allied Ships
xAKL Pahang, Torpedo hits 1, and is sunk
xAKL Circe
xAKL Lipis, Torpedo hits 1, and is sunk

Allied Ships
CM Willem v d Zaan, Bomb hits 3, and is sunk

Allied Ships
CM Kung Wo, Bomb hits 13, and is sunk
xAP Hong Kheng, Torpedo hits 1, and is sunk
xAKL Marudu, Bomb hits 6, heavy fires, heavy damage
AG Ban Hong Liong, Bomb hits 1, Torpedo hits 2, and is sunk
TK Spirilla, Bomb hits 2, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
xAP Klang, Bomb hits 1, heavy fires, heavy damage
TK Pleiodon, Bomb hits 7, heavy fires, heavy damage
PG Herald, Bomb hits 2, heavy fires, heavy damage
xAKL Kuala, Bomb hits 4, and is sunk
xAK Zannis Cambanis, Bomb hits 4, heavy fires
TK Pinna, Torpedo hits 3, and is sunk

Allied Ships
AMc Klias, Bomb hits 1, and is sunk
AMc Jarak, Bomb hits 2, and is sunk

Allied Ships
AMc Gemas, Bomb hits 1, and is sunk

My plan for today was to have all remaining fighters escort bombers from Singapore to hit shipping that would undoubtedly go to Mersing. Everything was set to range 2. This worked. KB was at range 3. However, no fighters flew, but the bombers did. Enemy CAP may not have been enough if 20 or so Allied fighters would have helped, but the Zeros were more than enough for Vildebeest, Hudsons and 139WH-3s. No bombers made it to target, and most if not all were shot down.

More KB bombers hit more shipping near Bengkalis.

Allied Ships
TK Spirilla, Bomb hits 5, heavy fires, heavy damage
xAP Matang, Torpedo hits 2, and is sunk
xAK Zannis Cambanis, Bomb hits 4, heavy fires, heavy damage
PG Herald, Bomb hits 3, and is sunk

Allied Ships
xAKL Circe, Bomb hits 4, and is sunk

Then Kota Bharu was captured.

About 55 Allied ships have been sunk so far, with another dozen or so stuck at Singapore, too damaged to move. Repulse and a light cruiser. Nothing significant beyond that. Just most of what starts at Singapore and Hong Kong.

The positive spin is that KB did not go south toward Java. The Allied big tankers are making it to safety. Many are loading up at Java.

The other spot of interest is near Ambon, where many enemy task forces approach. None have arrived yet, and they may be going somewhere else, like Kendari. With carrier support, I decided not to risk combat shipping. BB Prince of Wales joined with 4 US destroyers and will eventually join up with a carrier task force. Nice AAA.

It is worth noting that there has been no Philippine landing so far. Nothing at Wake, nor Tarawa. I wonder where those troops are headed. It does look like the northwestern corner of Borneo is about to be invaded.

Just 2 days into the war, and I'm starting to mentally prepare for a blitz of Australia or India. I was thinking of going with a strong Ceylon, figuring that would eliminate any end run landing around to the west coast of India. But now I'm thinking that putting 2 Brit divisions on Ceylon may just invite a 5 division landing and lots of Brit prisoners.

I'm also thinking about where I can be hitting early if the Japanese focus on India. I don't think that a slow and methodical Allied buildup is going to be enough, if Aurorus intends to keep up his speedy advances.

I was really tempted to throw Prince of Wales, and the US and Dutch ships at the enemy near Ambon. His carrier force weak, maybe just CVLs. But I have no air in the area, and no prospect of bringing in anything of value. I would have to approach unseen, just outside of his carrier range, hit the invasion hex, battle what looks like 3+ battleships and many others, and then escape outside of carrier range. It just isn't going to happen.

He does have what looks like shipping headed to Davao from Babeldaop. I'm sending some destroyers into the area to hopefully intercept today. I didn't spot a covering force there.

Ceylon is a trap early on, if he wants to commit to taking it. It is too early to know where he will go all-in - Oz or India or maybe even SoPac or NorPac. Put those Brit divisions in Karachi to protect that key base and wait until they can upgrade squads to some A/T value. If he goes all in for Oz, just rail your troops close to where you can hit his weaknesses and send them in.

Some players have pulled off successful raids where the Japanese have moved to fast for their air cover, but I don't think Aurorus will do that. He seems to cover all the bases in his on-line comments in other peoples' AARs. I'm in the camp that says you need PoW to escort your carriers and only the old American and British CLs and some DDs should be used for raiding because they are fast and maneuverable - hard for bombers to hit.

I will certainly prepare as if India and Australia are about to be overrun. Safety first. But I will counter at every opportunity. Even if it just a nuisance like my bombing Babeldaop.

In chess (and other things) they say if you want to improve your game, play someone better than you. My early take on Aurorus is that he is a skillful player, with a great attention to detail. I will do my best to give him a good match. And I'll learn along the way.

Just develop Bombay's port to level 7 for ship rearment bonus. Thus, you will be have a spare base for your navy once Ceylon falls.

I would plan on defending India as so much comes there through off map bases and not nearly as much through OZ. India is nice springboard against DEI and Malaya. If he comes to India trade space for time and garrision Bombay and Karachi well at the cost of Ceylon, Madras, Calcutta. I would give up OZ, especially NW-W and SE.

The captain of I-121 deserves a medal. Yesterday, in two separate attacks, I-121 sank big AMC Kanimlba fleeing Singapore. Today, I-121 sank xAK Tai Sang with one torpedo. Nice work considering that I-121 is one of the minelaying subs, and starts with a mine loadout. Unfortunately, it did not appear to hit a just dropped Allied minefield while headed east just south of Singapore.

In the one heart-stopping moment for today, I-24 spots CV Enterprise southwest of Pearl Harbor, fires 6 torpedoes at it, and all miss. Wow. Dodged a bullet there.

The first Allied sub attack occurred near Zamboanga, with Perch spotting a cruiser TF. 2 torpedoes miss DD Fubuki. Cruisers Chokai and Sendai, and 5 destroyers, moved east along the north coast of Mindanao, picking off small Allied cargo ships in multiple engagements. xAK Ravnaas is first sunk, then xAP Legaspi, that was loaded with part of a support unit picked up at Cebu. Then two xAKLs were sunk near Cagayan.

Ambon was invaded. Coastal guns hit nothing during the initial landing, but in the second round the CD guns were effective.

75 Coastal gun shots fired in defense.

Japanese Ships
CL Natori
DD Natsugumo, Shell hits 2
APD Nadakaze, Shell hits 4, heavy fires, heavy damage
APD Shimakaze, Shell hits 4, on fire
xAKL Hakuyo Maru, Shell hits 1
xAKL Kumakawa Maru, Shell hits 3, on fire
DD Minegumo

Guam was invaded. Southwest of Guam, US ship AM Penguin is fleeing to the south, and runs into unescorted xAKL Katsuragisan Maru. The epic battle began at 20,000 yards, and closed to 8,000 yards, when Penguin got a 3 inch shell hit on the cargo ship. Then the range increased and the battle was over. Not only will Penguin survive (hopefully), it may have been the first US combat ship to fight a surface battle.

Here's a play-by-play of the air activity:

18 Zeros sweep Singapore. No CAP.
32 Oscars sweep Georgetown. No CAP.
36 Nells bomb Georgetown's airfield, doing damage and hitting a few leftover Buffaloes.
25 Bettys and 36 Nells bomb the 22nd Australian Brigade inland in Malaysia. Vals and Kates join in.

27 Kates escorted by 14 Zeros bomb ships at Singapore. Everything at Singapore is already badly damaged.
Allied Ships
AG Vyner Brooke, Bomb hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
AMC Manoora, Bomb hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
AG Pangkor, Bomb hits 1, heavy fires, heavy damage

Lots of bombers bomb Hong Kong.

18 Sallys bomb Georgetown's airfield. A couple of leftover Blens are damaged, again.

Anns bomb Chinese troops near Wuchang. Targets in the open terrain. Sallys bomb troops near Kaifeng.

51 Sallys bomb troops near Kota Bharu.

Token Blen and Hudson bombers attack shipping near Singapore, but effective enemy CAP takes care of them easily. I forgot to stand these few down and ship them out. Corrected for today.

A highlight for today. 19 Lilys from Bangkok bomb troops at Rangoon. They are not escorted, and run into about a dozen Buffaloes and a dozen H81s from the AVG. Most of the Lilys are shot down, with just 6 dropping bombs. Top Allied pilot is now Sldr. R.A. Howard, of No. 67 Sqn RAF, flying a Buffalo at Rangoon. He shot down 3 Lilys.

49 Zeros sweep Clark airfield. No CAP. 27 Nells escorted by 9 Zeros then bomb the airfield in heavy rain. The airfield is still out of action from the day before. Most planes are gone.

Finally, Singkawang and Sorong were invaded. Both will fall quickly.

In China, a Chinese Corps is kicked back near Wuchang, and another near Kaifeng, and the enemy bombarded at Hong Kong, waiting for all of their units to arrive.

Mersing was captured easily. Some enemy pursued south. Singapore is going to fall so easily.

Automatic Allied bombardment attacks at the invasions of Kendari and Ambon show that neither will fall immediately.

Early observations of Aurorus' methods show that he supports his invasions strongly. Carriers tend to stand off one hex from the invasion hex. A surface group will be with the invasion, and he's used another stronger group as a screening force one hex away, in the direction of a possible Allied move. Granted, these first moves are rather scripted, and, I'm sure, well tested.

US carriers will rendezvous at Pearl Harbor. The first huge convoy will form up on the West Coast, join up with the carriers, and move "to the front". By the time it gets to anywhere important, we'll have a better idea what Aurorus' long-term objectives may be.

Note that I have reconsidered a strong Ceylon defense. India first. Many Chinese air groups have been bought out and flown to India for training. My opinion is that they suck up too much supply in China. They all are so poorly trained, and only good for surprising unescorted bombers.

I agree that trading space for time in India is a good idea. With the extended map, it may be possible to build up the isolated bases/islands west of Karachi, to ensure that air reinforcements can be dropped off and flown in. I will be defending Diego Garcia somewhat, with an Indian unit.

It would be a long time before I'd be willing to commit carriers to the Indian Ocean. If he wants India, KB will be there. No point in losing carriers early. If he goes to India with a major invasion, I could do something early elsewhere, something that would move up the Allied timetable in the long run, without risking everything.

Too soon to say where my opponent will target. Northeast Australia is always vulnerable early, but southeast Australia must be defended at all cost.

Enemy troops continue to land at Kendari, Singkawang, and Guam.

I-162 misses badly damaged TK Mobilfuel near Billiton, as the tanker flees south, slowly, from Singapore. The tanker survives this encounter, only to find itself in a precarious position later in the day.

There were 2 cargo ships that start the war at sea, unescorted, loaded with supply, between the West Coast and Hawaii. I let them continue toward Pearl Harbor, with their default course. I wanted to know if Aurorus has subs out there, or not. He does. Both ships were sunk.

One thing I hadn't talked about, or posted on maps, is what had happened to most of the ships that started at Manila. With Aurorus' aggressive start down south, I decided to try to slip them out of the Philippines to the east. This worked, until today.

Night Time Surface Combat, near Legaspi at 95,82, Range 11,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
BB Fuso
BB Yamashiro
BB Ise
BB Hyuga
CL Kitakami

Neptuna was a fast transport, and was out ahead of the gaggle by a couple of hexes. And there's a small carrier in the area too. 12 Kates sink an xAP and an xAK, and badly damage AO Pecos.

Near Tawi Tawi, 5 enemy TBs come across DD Scout and DD Thanet which just refueled at Miri and was heading to Tarakan at high speed. The combat resulted in no hits for either side. The TBs survived to cause more damage later in the day. They encountered already damaged DD Pope making the same route as the other DDs, but in trail. One round hits a TB, one round hits DD Pope, setting it on fire. Pope disbands at Tarakan at the end of the day. As if this wasn't enough for this amazing TB TF, they then sank xAP Candioa and xAKL Fortuna, both carrying troops from Cebu.

Surprise! The mystery TF on the north coast of Timor in an invasion TF, and it lands at Koepang.

Landings continue at Cagayan.

KB finally moves aggressively toward Java. Zeros sweep Batavia, clearing the skies easily. A few Wirraways go after BB Haruna, missing it. Vals from KB then hit TK Mobilfuel, damaging it badly. Kates sink TK British Judge, another damaged tanker in the area.

3 Seagulls from Cagayan attack CA Chokai, but all bombs miss.

63 Kates from KB hit Batavia's port, sinking an AG and an AGP. Not much left here to hit.

My move to Makassar with a Dutch TF results in CL De Ruyter taking a torpedo from Kates from enemy carriers still near Kendari. The enemy did not move west, as I had hoped.

Then Kendari is captured. As is Singkawang. Guam barely survives but will fall tomorrow. Sorong is captured. The enemy does not attack at Ambon, as there isn't enough of them. I decide to roll the dice and counterattack. I know from SIGINT that enemy reinforcements are on the way. Might as well do what I can with what I have.

10 Dec 41 - Java to New Guinea

KB is now pushing south. Small carriers still near Kendari. I'm glad that I started running away with just about everything as early as I did. With KB around, anything left is going to be lost.

I loaded up Borneo in the hopes of hitting shipping to the east. Pointless to send terrible crews flying Dutch planes to go after KB. Maybe I'll hit the ships heading toward Jolo.

Many ships are south of Java now, and will escape. BB Prince of Wales is safely out of the area.

10 Dec 41 - The Race From Manila

Escapees discovered east of Legaspi. Ships will scatter, not singly, but still in groups. Faster ships run at best speed. Maybe something will get away. A couple of faster ships have a good head start, and weren't seen.
