How do I find all the Scenarios?

The sequel of the legendary wargame with a complete graphics and interface overhaul, major new gameplay and design features such as full naval combat modelling, improved supply handling, numerous increases to scenario parameters to better support large scenarios, and integrated PBEM++.

btw, page 8 in the manual...

"The first time
you play, the tutorial directory will be selected.
You can select the Default Directory button to
bring up the Select Theater dialog which lists all
directories under the Documents/My Games/The
Operational Art of War IV/Scenarios directory.
Clicking on the Default Directory button again will
bring up the browse for folder dialog for Windows"

While you can always do a better job highlighting stuff as a dev, it wouldn't hurt forum members to not completely flip out before asking questions. Seems to be a pattern with certain people.

I agree. Better to spend a few minutes reading the manual or figuring things out rather than immediately running to the forum in outrage and starting a thread that only highlights your lack of patience or reading skills.

The more I think about the OP here, the madder I get...

If you opened up a game and you couldn't find the scenarios, would your first reaction be to accuse the devs and Matrix of theft. Here is what I would consider to be a normal course of action...

1) Read the manual and see if I missed something
2) Look at the buttons on the screen and see if they do anything
3) Read the forums and see if anyone else is seeing the same thing
4) Ask a nice level-headed question about how to access the scenarios
5) Maybe go to support and and ask for help

But never, until I had exhausted all options, would I accuse someone of stealing from me. I just don't get it. btw, this same OP has admitted on other forums that he doesn't read manuals. And herein lies the problem.

I mean, OpArt has always had hundreds of scenarios and been very well supported. And after the first day of release you have multiple people accusing Matrix of illegal activity. Can I ask very nicely for people to read the manual, at least on how to start a game. Also, take a quick read through on the forums and patiently ask questions. I really never expected to see these types for thread titles and posts about OpArt. Its an awesome game. Its not for everyone, but it is what a grognard-like wargame should be. For Matrix to take the risk to update it and then get completely crapped on by people that aren't willing to take five minutes to figure something out...I am stunned.

Read the manual? I guess we are in 1992.

That is why the manual is there. It should be the first thing you look to if you can't figure something out, unless someone robbed you of it.

You're right. Reading was obsolete by 1992.

Agreed!

But I have to say it makes some pretty good entertainment! [:D]

Honestly, I don't get what the fuss is all about? There are hundreds of scenarios that can be played SP.

Manual are really obsolete, modern UI in game doesn't require them.

Guys, I appreciate the support, and that you checked the manual to figure this one out. And having "I got robbed" plastered over the game's forum is indeed not the best of sights when it's for something like this.

But it is a fair point that one should not be required to check the manual to figure out how to browse all the scenarios. It's something that our many years with the game made us blind for during development, but we will look into how best to remedy it.

Try doing that with War In The West or War In The East. Whilst they have very user friendly UI and can be played without reading the manuals you wouldn't get very far in the games without immersing yourself in the manuals.

It's got nothing to do with 'modern UI' or what year it is. The fact is some (complex) wargames simply require the player to do at least some reading.

It got everything to do with modern UI, tooltip, automatic tutorial on your first scenario, special screen that pop up when you start the game for the first time etc.

I played WitW and WitE and without the manual I wasn't very good, but you know I started every scenario with ease.

OK, we will agree to disagree. I actually like reading manuals but I guess I'm old-school and in the minority these days.

I don't think, and am not saying, you have to read the manual from front to back before you play a game. But it is there as a reference. So a little self help is what the OP needs to do before accusing a long-standing company of stealing.

You are not too alone...I enjoy reading the manuals as well, especially for wargames. I am that guy that reads the owners manual from front to back when he gets a new vehicle, and usually I have this done by day two of ownership. I am driven to know what all my vehicle can do, and the same is true in wargames. There are always details buried in the manual that really help enhance your ability to play a game better. If I wanted to play a game without a good manual, then I guess tic-tac-toe would suffice. [;)]

I am considering demanding a REFUND as well. My complaint is that there are TOO MANY SCENARIOS to choose from.

Am I supposed to make a decision on which of the OVERWHELMING LIST OF SCENARIOS to play without any assistance? How can I choose from over 200 choices? What does Matrix think we are... intelligent people?? We are gamers afterall...

At the very least a SUPPORT GROUP should be established for SCENARIO CHOICE TRAUMA SYNDROME.

It's long past time for game producers to step up and take some responsibility for the effects of their outstanding products...

I would suggest you delete this thread as the OP is misleading. Some people might not read past the OP - particualry as reading anything longer than one sentence of 140 bytes is now beyond the skills of a large part of huanity.
