thanks for that info - i just got Orion Pirates and tried it out yesterday without the mod and it seemed to be working better than SFC2, i have added the mod now and your instructions so hopefully that fixes the problem i was getting with the UI in the game being too small for the screen and stuck in the top left corner.

I incidentally as i like to be a purist on some old games, found a 20 boxed copy of Orion Pirates too so i will have a legit copy at hand also for my collecion

Orion Pirates is a game on it´s own, that I now of. I worked just fine on my Windows 10x64bit with the mentioned mod and tweaking. You can get Orion Pirates at Old-Games, that´s where I got mine.

okay well it seems the mod is not ideal - i installed it like you said and now Orion Pirates is just a black screen - it briefly says loading but then it just goes black and nothing happens

Hmm, strange it worked for me. Or maybe I missed something, do check the HD mod thread just in case. Did you tweak the sc2.ini file as I wrote?

Some of the games in Old-Games are not workable on W10 right of the bat (unless it says so), so you do need to find solutions on your own. I think SFC2 was one of them. GOG has the first SFC Gold but that too seems to have some issues with W10, and/or it just plain looks awful in the graphics dept.!

You might need to install the "SFCOP 2500-2563" patch. If you don´t have it let me know...

Man, you fellows are old! I haven't seen references to this kind of stuff for a long time, er, I mean, I haven't read about this in any history books recently. Not that I would know anything about it all first hand. I mean, I am far too young for that of course.

Cool picture of the Doomsday Machine, or whatever that might have been called. If I'm right, it's just a lucky guess. I remember perfecting my tactics to destroy that thing in the original SFB board game.

What I mean to say is that I read how it could be done somewhere, and no I don't remember where.

Just sayin'....

Yes, Federation ships of the stated classes. Phased movement that was pre-plotted, plasma and photon torpedoes, various classes of phasers, disrupters, and suicide shuttles. SFB was a great game. It was actually such a good game that it suffered a similar fate to another great game, Squad Leader. Both were developed far too far, adding too many levels of complexity that utterly destroyed their playability.

Glad to read that! In my case, I did not have to use DXwnd for SFCOP, actually I don´t even have DXwnd runining any more, just used it for Talonsoft´s BoB, but since having EGtBR, I don´t use BoB any more, so no need for DXwnd.

As for SFC-3, well as E stated, it´s not the same as SFC-1/OP, it´s a light version with eye-candy but hey alot of other games are like that! The most important is that you have FUN playing it! [:)]

i like SFC 3 also - actually being that i am often terrible at trying to survive even just a 1 on 1 duel in the SFC games, if SFC 3 can be a little easier that is fine by me - i still find it a challenge. I played a duel with a romulan ship as the opponent and it was having a field day cloaking and reappearing behind me to blast my enterprise some more - so this i find plenty hard - but i do also like 1 and 2 and am glad i can find a way to make them work, dxwnd is working out quite well as a solution - it helped me to also get M1 Tank Platoon 2 up and working on windows 10, a feat otherwise impossible

I have SFC3 can't get it too work. I will try your suggestions. SFB just went way too far with the expansions. I still play Federation Space.
