HansBolter, thank you for sharing your fine examples and explanation.

I am the furthest I have gotten in this game - Aug. 13, 1943 vs. Japanese AI. Need to plan the massive Allies push into the Central Pacific and your posts are very helpful.

Just wanted to post a few screen shots of how I use my replenishment carriers.
We occasionally get newbies who don't have a clue what these things are for or how to go about using them.
Situation in my game is August '44 with the Death Star on station at the Mariana's covering for an invasion force in two

Indeed this is a very good lesson.

I have taken your advice and I do use some "jeep carriers" as intended.

I would only opine what others have taught me as well.

"What you do in 1943 is very different than what you do in 1944" with your CVE carriers".

"A CVE is essentially a CVL without Fleet speed"

Necessity is the master of CVE usage and I would advise even rookie players to adjust based upon need.

Ser Hans here is a very very experienced player and able to utilize assets in a way - that even I cannot [8D]

Thanks for the compliment.

Yes, its tough to see the need for using the CVEs that enter in '43 with replenishment squadrons aboard in the intended role as you simply don't have enough total CVEs to be able to afford to use any in a non-combat role.

By this point in '44 I have 5 full Escort Carrier Divisions operating with the fleet CVs. Each EscCarDiv consists of 8 CVEs, 4 Fletchers and 4 DEs.

So with 40 combat CVEs operating with the Death Star its quite a bit easier to accept losing 9 to a support role.

I still have 5 more combat CVEs and 1 more replenishment CVE at Pearl building the next divisions of each.

How comes that the AI already has Sam, Grace and Betty 3a in service in 8/44?

Its scenario 40. Andymac's Ironman Nasty ported to Babes. AI has lots of toys.

Ah, I see. Looks like a quite nasty mod indeed! Those replenishment carriers must be worth their weight in gold.

Especially so for this particular operation.

The Mariana's are sufficiently isolated that there is no LBA support.

The same would be true for just about any deep thrust as well.

The DS has to stand alone and cover the amphibious operations over multiple days while suffering considerable attrition.

The game has reached 8/10 and the KB has appeared in the Bonin Islands.

Now I'm really glad my carriers are topped off.

Been stingy with land attack sorties, holding the dive bombers back, waiting for the enemy CVs to decide to come out and play.

Now the fun begins.

Hans, in this scenario, I usually send the CVEs with the amphibious TFs to help cover their landings.

Hey Joe. Good to hear from you.

Joe D. and I used to post on the Uncommon Valor forum during the same era years ago when we cut our teeth on this game engine.

For most of my amphibious ops in '43 I sent the CVEs into the invasion hex to fly ground attack missions and provide direct CAP as you mention.

For this op I knew the KB, that has been in hiding for almost a year was likely to react so I wanted to keep all combat carriers concentrated to react.

Carrier battles have been scarce since '42 in this game. I sunk about 5-6 in '42 and then the KB went dark and stayed in hiding only coming out once in '43 and I wasn't positioned to react.

Given this is an Ironman Nasty sceanrio I know the other side still has plenty of carriers.

I purposely did't go looking for CV fights so as not to overwhelm the AI and keep it viable into the late game.

My CVs have had very boring duties covering one invasion after another.

I myself don't understand this well, and I've been looking for a long time how to install game to Windows 8.0 on new computer.
But you have to choose one of these options so that your game works correctly:
right click mouse to WiTP AE.exe and Options. After "C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" you need add one of this:

Other Switches
-colorBlind : Support for color blindness
-deepColor : Enables 32 bit color, intended for Full Screen mode
-altFont : Enables alternate in-game font (Lucida Sans Unicode)
-w : Windowed mode
-wd : Windowed mode, daily autosaves
-ww : Windowed mode, weekly autosaves
-fd : Full screen, daily autosaves
-fw : Full screen, weekly autosaves
-r : Show Roads -autosave : Daily autosave
-archive : Put data reports in archive directory
-skipVideo : Skip the intro video when starting the game
-fixedArt : Will not use rotating images

-multiaudio -cpu4 -dd_sw -deepColor -px1600 -py900
-multiaudio -SingleCpuOrders -dd_sw -px1600 -py900

-altFont -multiaudio -dd_sw -deepColor -px1600 –py900 -cpu4
-altFont -multiaudio -dd_sw -deepColor -f -px1600 –py900 -cpu4
-altFont -multiaudio -dd_sw -f -px1600 –py900 -cpu4
-multiaudio -deepColor -f -px1600 –py900 -cpu4
-multiaudio -dd_sw -deepColor -px1600 –py900 -cpu4
-multiaudio -dd_sw -deepColor -f -px1600 –py900 -cpu4

for example my works correctly so: -dd_sw -deepColor -f -px1600 -py900
Sorry, I now my english is not perfect.

Yes, I use quite a few switches in my command line including one that provides the low resolution I need for my tired old eyes; 1280x720.

Still not sure what you mean by "incorrect". What do you see in my display screenshots that is incorrect?

This install is running on Windows 10.

My font is the Alt font while yours is the original.

The Alt font is not as tightly spaced as the default font and sometimes very long names will run over the adjacent column.
Otherwise I greatly prefer the ALT font as it is sans serif and much easier on these tired old eyes.

There is nothing incorrect with my settings.

Not sure why you are asking for an explanation of how to embed images in the text as you just succeeded in doing so.

If you like Alt font - OK, up to you! Sorry!

I'm using download site for this (I really do not like it). You do this with attachment. I don't know how to do this on this site.

Embedding pictures is enabled in the reply interface in the lower left.
You probably don't have it enabled yet due to your low post count.
I'm pretty sure they have a minimum post threshold for enabling it to deter trolls.

Example of reply interface with picture embedding enabled:

The threshold is only 10 posts, so he should have no problem.
But you need to take a screen image using the PrtScr key or a screen capture program and save the image in one of your folders first. After that, the text at the bottom of the post window will let you browse to your folder, select (called "open" on the screen) the picture and return to the post to embed the picture.

The minimum post count might be 100, not 10.

Also I believe only .jpeg are supported.
