Um.......I've got only one Red Thunder II game going. It's still T2 but Berlin is empty in my game. ???ORIGINAL: MikeJ19
Larry,
Not sure you meant to post that to this thread... In my game the soviets are still trying to capture Berlin.
Have a good day,

Re: "NATO options".
Something little remarked in the literature is that the U.S. VII Corps had some extra "goodies" that V Corps did not -- have to check to be sure, but something like extra artillery and attack helos. At one point (before the 1980s), I think VII Corps also had an extra infantry division.
This was curious, because the main Soviet push was not expected to come out of Czechoslovakia ... and there was a German corps in the south, as well as potentially French and Canadian troops to reinforce them. So what of U.S. VII Corps? Was is supposed to pivot north and crash into the left flank and rear of a Soviet advance through the Fulda Gap? On to Berlin!
Cheers

Mike,
Thank you for your posts.
That is a textbook METT-T planning you presented. I will be interested in how it proceeds. To paraphrase Moltke, "No plan survives contact with the enemy"
Be aware, that Erik Rutins uses a novel solution of variable Events affecting the North Atlantic naval war, REFORGER, and cohesion in NATO and also the Warsaw Pact. A deus ex machina. So the outcome of a given game can vary widely, depending on what off the battlefield. I can imagine some players could object to this approach but I appreciate the variability.
Cheers

cathar1244 and r6kunz,
Thanks for your posts, it is always nice when someone comments!
I'm really looking forward to seeing the results of the off battlefield events. They will have a huge impact, but that should make the battle a lit more challenging.
Have a good day

A look at two units that are overextended - but are not yet feeling the effects of that status.

The Southern area
In this area, once again I need to continue to build a line to contain the WP advance, especially near Frankfurt. Worse luck, V Corps is reorganizing, so this limits my ability to check the advance and in some cases to get units out of trouble.
I’m going to move French, Belgian and Canadian units into the area NE of Frankfurt. I will also be tweaking the loss tolerance of the units in the defence line at the moment.
I’m happy with my positioning around Nurnberg and farther South near Munich, so other than some minor moves, I will entrench a little more.
There is not that much information about the air war. I’m really not sure how I’m doing in this important area. Based on the air report, it seems like the AS battle is now a toss up. I want to keep going after the WP air force. So, my rockets will continue to hit the air fields.

A look at the South
The main WP push here is in NE of Frankfurt, with another one near Nurnberg. In both cases, I think my defences are in pretty good shape.
There are a couple of places that I can do some damage to the WP forces. In the northern red ellipse, I can surround and maybe destroy the Tank Regiment (TR).
In the southern red ellipse, I may be able to get my recce Bn back to my lines. This area is a weak spot in the WP push. If I open a hole here, the WP may have to stop a advance to plug this hole – which threatens their air fields and to turn their line.
In the South, East of Munich, I will entrench some more and hold on. The WP forces there are not in great health and I think I have enough forces to hold them.
My air force is in pretty good shape. I want my planes conducting airfield attacks, air superiority and interdiction missions. My AH will focus on combat support.
