Game unplayable due resolution problem (from steam forums)

Hello,

I finally found a solution to this scaling/resolution problem on my 3400x1440 screen

I downloaded the DXwnd program and run the strategic command exe file through it. It works like a charm now. You just need to play with the video settings in dxwnd a bit.

Well that's good news! I have tried this DXwnd program to no avail yet. When you say "play with the video settings," could you be any more specific? I've put in different resolutions, screen ratio (16:9). Theres more than a dozen tabs there to adjust hundreds of settings and I just.... I just can't find what will make this work.

There was an update yesterday and I was very excited. In fact, I tried the game and lo and behold, it loaded to the map and everything! I was so excited I went to try SC world at war, but it wouldnt work. Went back and tried War In Europe, it went back to not working. LOL. Cursed, I am.

I also have a 3400x1440, but all I had to do was set the game to 2560x1080 and temporarily set the App and text scaling of my rig back to 100% (Normally have it at 175%, or else I can't read stuff on the desktop anymore).
Works for all SC titles for me.

Mystery. Again, I've tried combination after combination, scaling, full screen, windowed, 1920x1080 all the way up to 2560x1440. Same issue. I know when it wont work because I get these odd graphical anomalies, washed out colors, lines horizontal, sometimes vertical. And before I accuse my GPU, this is the ONLY software that does this. The only. I could put another GPU in the box but that seems... extreme. But I'm really running out of options on this. Crazy.

It works just fine on my laptop which is native 1920x1080. When I run an HDMI cable from my laptop to the troublesome monitor, it works just fine that way too. Running out of hair to pull out.

Chuikov, sorry for my late reply. My settings: Windows resolution is 3440x1440, scaling is set to 150%, I first need to set the ingame resolution to 3840x1620. The screen is then too big to play. Exit the game and run the dxwnd as admin.

I think I have default settings for all except in the video tab, see below. If you don't see those advanced options you need to open enable extended mode in dxwnd (options>extended mode) Hope it will help you.
