Hory crap. That was way too exciting.
Shokaku got torpedoed by an S boat on the first day.
Lexington came charging north and engaged my fleets from a position north of them (between the Shortlands and Rabaul!).
Shoho got hit hard but didnt sink. Her aircraft bailed back to Rabaul. The invasion fleet lost half a dozen transports to the dive bombers but soldiers on.
Because my big CVs plus the LBA from Rabaul savage the Lexington fleet. Lexington is hit hard, Chester is sunk.
Yorktown has the last laugh though, her dive bombers find and pulverize Shokaku. She sinks during the night and all her planes head off to Rabaul. I have a major stacking problem on my hands.
The following day Lexington is sunk by 5 torpedo hits.
...and I-28 finds the enemy refueling group and torpedoes the Australia, the Hobart, AND the Tippecanoe (AO).
My forces have just landed on Port Moresby after a night naval bombardment by the Shoho group heavy cruisers.
I'm still losing the scenario on points so far...and I cant help seeing the loss of Shokaku as greater than the value of PM...
...but this has been educational.
