The Guadalcanal scenario makes me realize how bad a tactical situation that campaign was for the Japanese, especially committing forces piecemeal like they did.

I’ll just say that CrackSabbath is a great opponent.
It’s mid June 42 in my first PBEM and there are forces in contact all over the map.
Regular turns, plenty of surprises and a bit of humour arrives with some of the turns. Here’s the latest one:

"We gotta get us some dem sumbitchin splodin torpedahs!"
Adm C. Nimitz.

Currently playing my first PBEM, no house rules Scenario 1 as IJ.

You are not kidding. When I played as the allies, I raced to reinforce Port Moresby and Milne Bay. I had no idea my opponent had no realistic way of taking those locations for at least the first month of the game. Playing the other side has been a revelation. I can't wait to play my first grand campaign against a human.

Edit: forgot to add I am loving your AARs, highly entertaining and educational.

Still playing a long running PBEM against Large_Slow_Target and falling behind in the AAR...

Work should be tapering down a bit with ongoing events, so perhaps some time to catch up!

started again, a few weeks ago; April 42, Allied side, Dababes C against "lurker" Runnersan

also playing the same mod, as Japan, against AI. This game is moving at turtle pace as it gets last priority compared to the PBEM and actual life, took me weeks to finish turn 1, I am now in turn 3

However, I know many of us have secret little games of WitP going on that we love to hide away from the forums, but I don't like that. I want to read YOUR story! What is going on in your present game, be it against the AI or another player? No need to give a full update: you can post a sentence or two, or a paragraph, or even add pictures! Regulars with no AAR but games going on should post an update too.

I'm on my 6th PBEM now-all as the Japanese. Some of my opponents have even survived!

I'm playing the sons of heaven currently against Acepylut. Scenario 2, late September 1942. Japanese control much of the South Pacific, including New Caledonia and Samoa and the northern coast of Australia. Elsewhere, Burma is in hand and China is under pressure, but Acepylut (Darryn) has been putting together effective defensive arrays in the mountainous and rough terrain surrounding Chungking. A Japanese effort to invest Perth from Gerraldton was roughly treated and resulted in moderate losses of ground and support troops. VPs are about 3:1, but we will play through regardless of whether the (unlikely) autovictory conditions are met on January 1, 1943.

Japanese naval losses have been very light. To date a small handful of Cls. Allied naval losses are more substantive, with California "Emily-ed" torped to death by Emilys near Adak. Idaho and New Mexico have been damaged by submarines, but probably not fatally. A goodly number of Allied Cls have been lost in the defense of the DEI and Australia mostly. There have been no CV:CV contests yet, but there have been a couple of close calls.

Air losses on both sides have been very modest. Both sides seem to be marshalling their strength for the coming conflagration.

Japanese research continues apace. It has completed the A6M5. Next month, Tojo IIc, Tony and Kate will come online. Jacks and Jills ([:D]) in about 3 months. George early-mid 1943. Frank and Ki-100-I mid-late 1943.

We are both 'casual' players in our pace, probably getting 4-5 turns a week out. Both of us take time for family life and work, travel or whatnot. Things have worked out well and Darryn's a good partner with a similar mindset for the game and where it fits in with our lives. [8D]

I am doing Andy Mac's latest Ironman against the IJ computer. I have collected over 80,000 aircraft VPs at a better than 4:1 ratio. I just landed at Kanoya and it's May 7, 1945. I lost about 12 CVEs over the two-day turn, although the IJ had aircraft losses of over 3000 in those two days. They sent everything that could fly. I noticed that my CAP went from about 2000 to zero over the fleet in the morning after countless attacks, but popped back up to about 1500 airframes at the start of the afternoon phase. Some very interesting things happen in the game when the numbers get large.

As you may imagine, I have a lot of aces. One VMF based on Funafuti has over 1300 kills, although the Betties stopped coming a few months back. I need to send them up to the Home Islands.

Cheers,
CB

I am playing Andy's Dababes Insanity. Man It is insane for sure. Trying to hold Lashio with Chinese and last of the Burma troops. Not going to happen I think.

Oh and the Japanese Air force and Navy Air is crazy. Lost 370 P40s god knows how many F4's, but put down hundreds of Japanese aircraft so hard but not impossible I think. But still crazy. Oh and that is just early March.

I accidentally ran into a Christmas Island invasion force moving carrier to the South and destroyed I think an entire division heading there. Reinforced the last line at Christmas. NO Christmas for the Japanese!

I'm playing a game now with Encircled. Haven't played since the Greyjoy game 8 years ago (!), but we've been at it since November and are now in May 1942. I've been thinking about writing a bit of an AAR but not sure I have the time.

Watching a lot of posts on the forum actively, and thoroughly enjoyed some recent game reports, especially the Obvert/Canoerebel game :)

Also watching the coronavirus thread - lots of good, rational conversation there.

Rader: Great to hear from you. You had probably the most epic contest in WITP-AE AAR history with GreyJoy. Would love to see an AAR from you (I'm the guy formerly known as Commander Cody).

Reading that AAR got me interested in this game.
