Here's what I'm kind of monitoring at the moment as I watch to see what effects my changes make...

With no HI, or oil, I doubt you can produce anything. Turn off all replacements, and fort construction. You might scrape some supply from LI for plane operations.

Soviets are using lots of old airframes. Targeting Soviet Air seems to have greatest chance of doing anything useful.

Babo, and Boela at New Guinea tip, are probably only Bases with oil left. You might risk smuggling it.

I'm gunna try moving some of my HQ units around to see if that pulls supplies to a base that I've identified as my "Alamo" for Manchuoko.

As for oil - I'm wondering if I can scrape enough units and resources to protect Shikuka and go after Alexandrovsk...

Maybe send your HQ units to Fusan, use the 'demand' buttons there to jack it up further and try to get some across to the Home islands?

Good on you for taking this game on. That industry situation is rough!
The only thing you’ve got plenty of is Resources but it looks like more than half the Light Industry has been trashed, and you’ve got no fuel to run Heavy Industry, so you really need to ration supply use.

Ideas to save supply:
- Stand down all but essential air groups, maybe even disband all but fighters
- disband non essential land combat units by sending them to Tokyo. Eg: if you don’t have enough supply for aircraft to fly anyway, you may as well send most of the mechanics back to their farms
- stop all construction

Also, drain fuel from any merchants you still have by putting them in temporary task forces and asking warships to replenish at sea from them.

Good luck!
Currently playing my first PBEM, no house rules Scenario 1 as IJ.

Thanks for the suggestions. I hadn't thought about disbanding air groups. I'll chew on that for a bit. :-)

Chickenboy had also suggested the refueling process you describe above. I've put that to good use. I just wish I had a few more merchies on the table from which I might pillage their fuel reserves.

1. At Mutankiang all of my units are moving to Fushun (1 hex to the east). My hope is they pull the supplies with them.

2. For the rest of Manchukuo, I'm Alamo at Kirin, which is a wooded hex with three sides protected by the river. Kirin's forts are at level 5 and it has 20 resources and 20 LI. We'll see what happens.

3. At Toyohara I have the 88th Division and the 41st Mixed Rgt. That are packing to use the rail system to Shikuka. Currently at Shikuka are the:
i. 34th Div. (111)
ii. 101st Garrison Unit (20)
iii. 58th Ind. Mixed Bde (55)
iv. 1st Ind Infantry Bde (0)
v. 1 arty unit and a pair of construction units. Note that all of my units at Shikuka are in the red with zero supplies.

4. TF51(5DD) that raided the small enemy TF at Shikuka was successful in driving the enemy out of the hex. This TF is returning back to the home islands post haste.

Put your almost fuel empty cargo vessels in a coastal hex with mines and air cover. He can't sweep it. Convoys with 2 ships could work.
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

That Industry situation is truly grim! It looks like you have no fuel at all, and no hope of getting more. Your HI pool is empty.

All of that means you can't build ANY aircraft, even ones you have engines for. Whatever you have right now on hand, that's it for the rest of the game. What do you have in your A/C pools, especially fighters?

If you have a little oil in Honshu being turned into gas, you can scrape a few HI together. If that's the case, you need to immediately turn off all shipyard production if it's not already. I would also turn off Armament production; you have 200K, that will have to do. I would turn off all A/C production except for a couple fighter models, and if you have a pool of engines, I would pick an IJN/IJA model that uses that pool. That will give you maximum fighter planes for minimum HI.

Hi Q-Ball,

Fighters - I have 50ish A6M2-5 and about 150 Claude. There are a few other models of Zero but low (under 20) numbers. A challenge is that most of my airfields are bombed out or have 0 supplies so I can't really fly anything. Thank god for carriers - right? <grin>

I've also got about 50 Jills. I'm @ work right now so the numbers are from memory.

I'll get an update out 2night - I sent a turn off to Roger last night but I was listening to the Trump/COVID news report so I was a bit distracted.

Stay safe, keep your hands clean, and carry a Louisville slugger. People give you plenty of space when you walk around with a bat... [:D]

Or maybe I'm just stupid - lol.

What I would say is that it's an interesting opportunity to try and manipulate resources/fuel/supplies just to put a few birds in the air. Roger did some night-bombing on the last turn that was pretty devastating. While I can get a few birds up during the day I had nothing up at night and those big 4E bombers are smashing almost everything. I think I had like 80 points of oil and he nailed 6-10 points.

Great ideas but I have next to nothing in air cover. But I haven't thought about mines (I know - stupid of me) so thank you for that suggestion. [:)]

Orders for 23 APR 1945

Post by durnedwolf »

Orders Phase for April 23 of 1945

I've got a 2-DD slash going from Fukuoka - trying to snag what looks like a pair of allied DD. I *think* they are Russian so I'd like to at least see what a Japanese/Russian DD VS DD fight looks like.

Mysteriously, on the home island of Japan and Hokkaido, fuel appears at bases that it wasn't at. I know that supplies can be moved and that there are some delays built in here and there. For the life of me I just can't figure out where the pushes and pulls are.
Not a lot of fuel and most of the areas it's arrived are bases that I can't try to slip a ship In for a slurp. But perhaps I'll see some supplies next turn? Hoping anyways.

In Manchukuo my attempt for an Alamo at Kirin seems to be working. An arty unit is the first to arrive. What I really want is HQs to pop and try to draw supplies to that base.

I'm gunna try a switch-and-bait to the SE of Japan. TF333, with those CVLs, tapped into a small DD TF that Roger has (I assume as a scout).
TF333 is headed West for home. TF210 with a pair of BB and 4CV is headed East to merge. I'm hoping that Roger has something near his invasion fleets around the Kurile Islands that he'll try to dash towards TF333. If so, I'll have my ambush.

Alfred

Thanks Alfred.

I am interpreting your notes in the light of a Japan with plenty of oil/fuel/supplies/resources. In this current map of Japan, Matsue had 800 fuel points last turn. It's just that almost every base in Japan is asking for resources and it seems to me that almost everything would push to Fukuoka or Tokyo. But every turn I'm finding smaller bases that receive or loose points of fuel or supplies and I'm not sure if there is a draw, a push, or maybe even a tiny bit of production that is creating the differences I see.

And again - thanks for the link to your previous post - I've book-marked it. [:)]

Well - no ambush. Bummer. Twice now I've tried to sortie small SCTFs but they run into globs of PT Boat TFs and then use up most of their movement points. Then Rodger catches them with his air units and I scratch a few ships. I'll try other locations on the south or east side of Japan but my intel is really-really spotty. If I see an enemy TF I have no faith in what mouse-intel claims is the actual TF makeup.

Roger has a few TFs south of the Bonin Isles and I'm gonna try to light 'em up with a pair of bomber groups and a TB unit if Jills.
