Thank you for the excellent screen shots and commentary. I thought Marcinos defense looked great until HM made his move. Wow, nice play on both sides.

Interesting use of fortifications. I noticed only two fortified hexes in the north (in front of Smolensk) and eight fortified hexes in the south, with a couple engineers digging more. The AI focuses a lot of fortification construction in front of Leningrad and Moscow but I didn't see any for this game.

Is the placement of fortifications pretty typical for MP? Would you make any changes?

Well, maybe I would setup Kiev area slightly different, but I am not 100% sure.
Generally speaking, the South is where goodies are, namely Russia's MPP's. Cities, some mines, then Caucasus and oil fields. Going for Moscow/Leningrad first has its merits, but in terms of depriving USSR of MPP's, South wins. What is more, terrain there is mostly flat and German tanks may progress at good pace, not soso in the North/Center.
