Turn 12 + 13
16 February - 1 March 1940

The mood at the Admiralty improves somewhat. I placed the 1st Submarine Flotilla outside Kiel to try and catch the surviving Germans fleeing to port. This works and the Germans ships are sunk. Two furious counter-attacks are mounted by German destroyers but these are beaten off. Meanwhile the mauled wolfpack is found and sunk.

Less good news is that my cruisers found another wolfpack in the North Atlantic, but only 1 point of damage was done....

China on the other hand.....

The Chinese are being outflanked from the north... but in better news, partisans appear in Amoy - Hussah!!

Turn 14 + Turn 15
15-29 March 1940

An alarming breach - well a chasm really - opens up west of Changsha. Xue keeps III, I and IV Corps where they are but thins out the line, with XXVI and II Corps moving back and north to try and put some sort of block in the way.

1st Army makes an attack against the Japanese 34th Army, depleted it somewhat.

There is more action in the North Atlantic. A wolfpack is reduced to 5 but there is another one at least that I have no idea of its whereabouts.

The Germans attack Holland and Belgium - forcing both into surrender.

Meanwhile in China....

1st Army and III Corps will have to be sacrificed. I am hoping the terrain will limit Japanese freedom of movement between Chungking and Changsha but we'll see.....

In the North Atlantic the battles still rage. The RN and RCN find a wolfpack and they throw everything at it but it keeps submerging without loss. The French join in the fun and stumble across the weakened pack from previously. A British and French finally despatch the pesky u-boats.

The Allied navies continue to keep the u-boats quiet for now. That's three turns out of four I think.

While your cruisers are able to scout out those pesky U-boats, they don't do much damage AND if one ends its turn next to a sub it will take a hurting during the opponent's turn (as you found out). The tradeoffs in lost MPPs repairing them (or eating any total losses) may not counterbalance any convoys protected.

It's strange. In another game I played my opponent used his cruisers to attack my subs and it seemed to work... but then there are lots of things my opponents do that I don't understand - Oh well, no use crying over spilt cruisers and its up to me to learn the game better.

The Chinese lose Hengyang. I can't save 1st Army as it can't move. I bring artillery up, but my engineers means I can't bring my AA unit into the defence of the front line.

Xue has control over the four front line corps. 1st Army is truly on its own.

This is a first for me. My Anglo-French forces have got involved in Norway.

Air attacks cost some loss to the Germans, but my ground forces can't achieve anything.

The RN send a small force to check out Italian positions, and inflict 2 points of loss on the Italian 5th Army.

Well I don't know where the u-boats went, but I don't care - at least its quiet!!

I should think about stopping supply from India - they need the points.

Not sure if you read my post on DE 111 - India entering war but I'm quite sure its a yes. That will give India 132 with 46 going to Brit. None of the "intelligencia" chimed in (don't want to give up the secrets to the new guys), but I'm quite sure DE 111 is a YES.

Yes I saw that. I am afraid this is one of those areas where real life gets in the way of war gaming. Under no circumstances will I:

- Declare war on behalf of India
- Seize the Irish ports

I accept that this may hinder me in playing as Allies - and yes that point differential is huge - but its something personal so I guess I'll just have to suck it up [:)]

I do what I can to shore up the defence by trying to form a line on the river, centred on 11th Army. Basically its 11th Army and Dads Army....
