Turn 16 + Turn 17
30 March-12 April 1940

The Chinese are getting annoying along the line....

In the north Army Group Terauchi (with one army loaned from its southern neighbour) tries to block a Chinese corps heading for Peking. The counter almost succeeds.

In Central China the Chinese try the same tactic. I bring Umezu in to form a new army group, thus freeing Itagachi to move north and releasing Kimura to the south from responsibility for the aircraft.

The Germans declare war on Belgium.... and its raining....

And my computer said it encountered a problem and had to re-start right in the middle of the turn. So I will see if I can replicate what happened in China and Belgium....

So, having tried to re-create what happened, I've suffered some positives and minuses - although I think on balance it's probably favoured the Chinese. In the north the result favours the Japanese. My Peking Garrison took a bigger loss when attacking the Chinese corps, but the loss to the Chinese was greater. To try and limit Chinese loss to the original 1, I then attacked with my second garrison (rather than the Army) - but in taking a loss it also destroyed the Chinese. So China lost 1 point more (and with it the corps) while the Japanese lost 3 points instead of 2 - although these were taken by Garrison and not the army.

In the south the Chinese get a significantly better result. My airforce loses 5 points more than previously (I can't see the Chinese fighter). The land forces are no different.

To the south, the Chinese loss is the same, but my land forces take 2 more points of loss.

Re-doing a turn is never comfortable and although I've lost out, I'd rather this than be in a better position. I'll invite AllenK to check these images if he wishes to.

Perhaps I should spend some time practicing!! I was unlucky with the rain, but that could have gone better with better game management. Still, it was an improvement on what went before - when I don't think I started to attack until the late summer!!

Wow the rains really start to fall!!

Meanwhile I've decided to occupy Denmark - let's see how that pans out and whether it was worth the cost.

Norway is taken but my forces on Oslo get a kicking. Ouch!!

It is a biggie. The Russians get a significant mobilization boost which means a lot more MPP for research in order to prepare for Barbarossa.

Things went slightly better in the south but even that success was tempered by a Chinese corps that retreated rather than be destroyed, and 21st Army was unable to occupy Kweilin.

Turn 20 + Turn 21
24 May - 7 June 1940

The pressure eases slightly - if only temporarily - as the Chinese 5th Army is cut off south of Peking. However, this has drawn troops from Itagachi's army corps and this army group looks very weak now. Umezu makes an immediate impression and destroys a Chinese corps in the centre.
