You have 88 German fighters. That alone would have made me turn back if I was a Russian bomber pilot ;-P Low morale bombers should be turning back quicker when un-escorted. Plus there were enough fighters to have a one-on-one with every bomber with a few extra pilots begging to be in on the action.

I learned quickly in WITE2 you "don't" fly un-escorted. If you do you are going to get decimated.

Sorry, I missed this post when I posted in the main forum about how the Soviet AI in all my games loves going balls to the walls with long range bombers. I agree the losses are high but I think the bigger issue is the Soviet AI logic telling it to lose 2K+ long range bombers in July/August every single game I play. Soviet AI must've hired Bomber Harris!

A few things going on here.

1) Interception chance goes up greatly as you fly over enemy territory and past enemy air bases. Going deep leads to big interceptions. Maybe too big. Interceptions are like Torch less than in WitW, but we had problems in testing where raids close to the front got no interceptions. Possibly changes to get some intercepts there have made going deep worse than it should be at this point in the war.
....

in this case worth noting that the interception hex was right next to a cluster of airbases with a lot of fighters - not sure if this reflects the chosen route or simply how the air phase worked out?

It's borked.....a Soviet 'friend' placed in the Axis LW command told me you had equipped every plane with secret new jet fighters and A2A missiles....I know you know this Herr Loki.....It's ok though as my secret plane the La-262 is nearing completion..........

Unescorted slow heavy bombers in daytime. Only the AI would think that's a good idea.

sheesh. I was just trying out a viable option to see how it played out after not playing the game for a few years....and all 247 being shot down?

Sorry, didn't mean to disparage your strategy. I got your post confused with several other posts where players were reporting that the AI was losing 2k level bombers in the first few months of the war bombing railyards far in the German rear. Unlike the AI, after one such bombing raid you probably decided not to try it again. I think it's fair to think that they wouldn't all be wiped out, however given the air defenses the cost should have been very high.
