Not to mention that he was SHOUTING!

Umm no. They didn't use identifiers for Caps/No Caps in those messages.

And oddly enough, he wasn't the first to use this meme when questioning the hoped for arrival of a Matrix update:

TURKEY TROTS TO WATER GG FROM CINCPAC ACTION COM THIRD FLEET INFO COMINCH CTF SEVENTY-SEVEN X WHERE IS RPT WHERE IS PATCH TWO RR THE WORLD WONDERS

I dare say, you've missed the gist of the message.

Except that we now use uppercase and lower case letters.

So, given a perfectly plausible, historically based explanation for the use of "all caps" (indeed, a near certainty), you are going to double-down and stick with "internet shouting"?

OK, then.

I only asked because they had made a WITE 2 and I was curious. I didn't expect this level of hostility. I won't be posting here again, don't worry.

Dude, chill. The responses here have not been made to be harsh, although you may perceive them that way. Its just that many 'nugs' continue to bring this up.

In a nut shell, this is the best game, taking in its breath and scope, that has even hit our market... ever.

If you take the time and make the effort to learn it you will get it.

And I do mean time and effort, this title is not for the faint of heart. As one player, who quit, described it, it is a 'time vampire' of a game.

Platoonist, depends on how one defines the various games that Grigsby had done on the Pacific war:

Pacific War - 1992
Uncommon Valor - 2002
Pacific War, Matrix Edition - 2003
War in the Pacific - 2004
WITPAE - 2009

I feel these games are all a 'family' and concur that WITPAE qualifies as WITP 2. It has been an interesting run and a huge 'time vampire' for me. Only drawbacks have been players dropping out of PBEM without a peep. And the guy who figured out how to cheat in UV.

I'm prepared to issue a challenge with a value of say US$5,000 per investor to fund the development of that project.

Specific commitment will precise fund targeting.

It has been talked about for a long time. Go through this forum from the beginning, copy and paste all of the threads that ask this question, read them, then maybe have a thread with all of the links and pertinent quotes.

I am sorry I overreacted. I hereby lift my self-ban.

BTW I wasn't trying to "Internet Shout" I thought the original WW2 telegraph messages were in all caps. My source for this is Hollywood movies.

If this has been discussed before, my apologies, but what about crowd-funding like they do for games like Star Citizen? A Kickstarter?

And there are companies out there that specialize in rehauling old and beloved games. You don't necessarily need it to be WW2 experts, just people to update tech, the interface, graphics, and user friendliness (font size, large screens). The original creators can just supervise if any questions come up on substance.

Welcome back. [;)]

Speaking of War in the East I seem to recall Gary Grigsby had a 1993 MS/DOS precursor to that one called simply War in Russia.

This is not WWII.

What you are actually asking for may be just another update. But it will not be easy and then people may just start asking for more changes to be made. But remember, this game came out when Windows XP was the predominant OS for computers.

It is not just the original creators but also the WITP:AE team as well.

Glad to see you back!
The problem with what you propose is the copywrites. The research on the data the game uses was a long and costly effort and a new game could not use the data without paying out millions in copywrites alone. And the really big one is the game engine calculations on the combats. The algorithms are a closely guarded secret and would not be given up without a lot of money as well. The current algorithms were designed to fit into a game engine that goes back to Uncommon Valor - about 20 years old as I understand it. There is no guarantee they could be just copied and slapped into a new game engine.

So we share your "Labour of Love" feeling for renewing the game but it would take very deep pockets indeed to cover the costs. Research by the companies that do these things show too few customers would be interested in the niche game. Most game players now want a game that can be finished in hours or days - not years.

not years

And not only a game may take years, but also learning to play can take a couple as well.

Maybe somebody should start a thread asking for one thousand dollar donations for everyone who asks this question.

Also, maybe make a thread and sticky it so people will not ask this question any more plus make sure that no comments are allowed.

If you don't like the thread, Mr. Thread Police, why not ignore it?

Don't apologize; it only encourages the "Thread Drama Queens" who mistakenly think they own this forum.

It's a great question! Too bad we can't get many mature responses.

Hello,
my 2 cents. I wish to have WITP 2 as well. I will gladly even pay for it more then for Witp AE, no problem, or i will work on it within community. But this money mentality...
I think WITP is more work of enthusiats for enthusiats then anything else and money affairs should be considered as a secondary.

Without deep interest in the topic of Pacific war anybody wont work on that or play such a demanding game. Imagine to paint all those planes or ships alone. I think all in the team worked for free or just "a little donation" from Matrix for the game sales.

Best thing what could happen is Matrix or whoever owns the rights will pass those rights to a new solid, trustworthy group, community, which will update this project. Othervise many things must be done from scratch... Matrix do you hear me?

RR...I'm aware that the notion of a "new version" has been discussed ad nauseum; what has not been discussed with much effort, and what I was referring to, were solid ideas to actually plan it and fund it. The idea needs a core of dedicated, experienced and well organized people.....do we know any??

Do apologize - it acknowledges the other person's concerns and that they are worthy of your respect. It goes a long way toward keeping the discourse going instead of degenerating into flame wars. Sorry, R1961, I can't agree with your method or (IMO) mischaracterization of people who raise objections. [:)]
