Glad to see you back in action so soon. It looks to me like you're landing some blows already. Mundy's light carriers are somewhere around Luzon?

Not landing real blows yet but I'm preparing to do so. Just no self runner to do so early on as the Allied. Have to mass my limited assets in one or two places and try to hurt the Japanese if a chance arises. If that goes wrong just once it can mean having run out of opportunities for halve a year or longer (if your carriers go down in that process).

There should be some CVE and CVL around in the SRA and at least one of them is off Luzon.

the available P-40 early on are one of the Allied's limited assets and today we made use of them over Clark Field... was amazing to see the Zeroes being totally useless, not even taking part during the engagement so the Warhawks had a free shot at the Army bombers...

our fighter pilots overclaim kills but I guess around a dozen Lillies were destroyed for no loss within our CAP today... nice!

The Japanese can ramp up aircraft production quite quickly in the starting months but at the beginning they aren't swimming in airframes and even Lillies are worth something when you have lots of Idas and other crap around...

another damn sub attacking Trenton, this time six torps missed the CL... quite lucky here even though big ports are close and it would have been hard to sink the cruiser if the ship wouldn't go down instantly...

the enemy wasn't impressed by yesterday's CAP it seems as he keeps bombing Clark even though more Zeroes show up on escort today... expected a Zero sweep so we have moved out the Warhawks... the 19 Zeroes on escort would have been enough of a problem...

tried an attack against the ships at Mersing, wasn't sure if Mundy would keep his LRCAP up there, not even sure where it is coming from... well, the LRCAP kills my fighters at will but the biplane bombers got through once more, missing the Kongos but planting at torp into a freighter and one into an APD sinking it outright...

Singpore launches a strike also in the afternoon and the Buffalos suffer even more but we get another freighter... these ancient torp bombers are one of the very limited assets that would be able to hurt the Japanese but a day like this could delete most of them if the escorts wouldn't be able to keep the Zeroes away from them... amazing they completely could once more...

we've flown two attacks against LRCAP over Mersing and it has cost us over 20 Buffalos on escort for 2 Zeroes shot down, not a good trade and not affordable... we net about halve around ten ships sunk in three attacks (the first unopposed) and being afraid of also losing the torp bombers we will halt these attacks now...

sending in cruisers to Rabaul is always at risk running right into KB as the small invasion force can be used as a bait and I've done that as the Japanese more than once... and KB was spotted today but Mundy didn't time his invasion with KB, he might not have expected us to show up... after hitting Pearl and repleneshing KB has arrived in the Bismarck Sea today...

I think that you meant that you spotted a Japanese convoy.

Yes, you are having lousy luck with your subs.

Balikpapan invaded... we spotted the invasion force only yesterday and immediately ordered Force Z to leave Soerabaja to intercept but that means of course we will be one day late again if we aim at engaging loaded troop convoys... no doubt the enemy will unload everything today... and there are some heavy units there to cover the invasion... there's also a CVL plus perhaps a CVE in the area but the Kates have spent the limited number of torps on some tiny freighters so the CVL shouldn't be a threat to Force Z...

KB swings around the tip of New Guinea and even though every ship in the area was ordered to get out as quickly as possible some small convoys just weren't fast enough to avoid the incoming Japanese danger... losing this small xAP is a pity because it carried a NZ construction unit with 12 engineers and 3 eng vehicles which are so precious at this stage...

god damn, must have been hit by the synch bug already as the units here attack already so they must have unloaded YESTERDAY already?!?! Wow, what a sh*t... watching the replay I must have been looking at a different reality...

what's also more than surprising is what Mundy is landing here as two full IJA divisions attack at Balikpapan, which is total overkill for this base... combined some 70 or 80 oil/fuel were destroyed... Mundy as the Japanese is watching what really happens so he's up to date so that could lead to a problem with my orders... Force Z is going in tomorrow...

the Celebes Sea is a death zone for IJ ships as we have around a dozen subs with working torps patrolling there... first valuable victim is CVL Ryujo that is hit by two torps... the light carrier is reported hit but it's not sunk yet, there were no aircraft ground losses... the ship has to get to a friendly port for emergency repairs now though, most likely Balikpapan (lvl 4) and we will try to intercept...

here's today's real party as Force Z shows up at Balikpapan to engage the IJN... both IJ BBS expended parts of their ammo during the invasion already but they still fired lots of main gun rounds on our ships... both POW and Repulse were hit by 36cm shells but none were penetrating their armor, light cruiser Durban wasn't as lucky when a 36cm shell penetrated her deck armor causing heavy damage... in return our ships landed 14 and 15inch hits on Kitakami and one 15inch shell also penetrated Mutsu's deck armor at very long range after several shells earlier failed to penetrate... now one such shell usually isn't causing spectacular damage but this engagement lasted like forever and Mutsu was burning from 6inch shells right from the beginning and if a ship is burning during the actual combat replay these fires are devastating if the ship is also hit by penetrating shells...

Mutsu was going down later this day and there was only one 15inch shell going through her armor... I never understood why fires are so much more dangerous during the actual replay when the ship would have easily survived the same damage if the combat replay would have been over quicker... a CVL hit by two torps and a BB being sunk, not bad for Dec 23... CL Durban was split off and tries to make Soerabaja which should be doable if no further attacks occur, Force Z is also going to retire to Soerabaja...
