RE: Recon Missions 20k high Flak losses?

Post by Zovs »

Joel,

I sent you a file with 4 saves (end of air phase setup - not executed, start of ground phase and the two auto generated files).

Here are my notes so as not to get lost:

Air Recon Discrepancies

Open up the Air Execution Phase Summary (AEPS)
Note the total sorities is 393 and Aircraft lost is 41

Open up the Losses screen and go to the Air Losses tab and sort by Axis Air Phase
Note that the lost Recon aircraft matches to the AEPS but the number of Fighter Bombers does not match the AEPS losses

Air Execution Phase Summary (notes and oddities)

I was using the AEPS and clicking on each Recon mission and manually counting the losses of fighter, bombers and utility planes and then I counted one Naval Patrol mission losses and the numbers don't add up. When I count them manually on the AEPS screen I see this

Fighters: 6
Bombers: 2 (from the Naval Patrol attack)
Utility: 11

Note if you click on the second Recon mission (Pskov) from Luftflotte 1 (to view the lost fighter) it shows you the 1 recon plane and the 2 escorts (Bf 109F-2) but you can not click on any 'Show details' button since its not there, don't know if this is WAD, but most all the combat screens do show the 'Show Details' button.

Note for Luftflotte 2 and the first Recon mission (204,158) this screen shows 128 fighters flow for 4 recon and the Soviets flew 123 bombers (and lost 114). Clicking on that Interdiction mission takes you do that mission on map but shows 4 Recon and 4 escorts and no Soviet planes at all (again no 'Show details' button).

Since Zovs is running at .13 update I taken the liberty of running a host of Recons over a known Flak Area using .11 update.

Altitude: 22,000ft
3 strikes per day
Area 1
Min A/c - 3

Not sure if it adds much to the debate, but I found losses to quite normal, as a comparison to the .13 update findings:

AD + Flak

Thanks, I got the saves and they do show that in this case at least the flak losses in 1.02.13 are twice what they are per sortie than 1.02.11 in the air execution phase. I can't explain that. Gary made some changes as did Pavel. I can see why some of Pavel's fixes might lead to increased flak in some cases, but other changes should have more than offset this. I don't know if Gary's changes were all in the GS area, or if his changes would also have dereased them in the air phase. I'll have Gary look at this right away, but if it's something just in the air phase, then he may not be able to deal with it without some of Pavel's time. Thanks again for the saves.
All understanding comes after the fact.

Thanks Zovs for your work on this issue. I thought I was doing something wrong as my recon losses roughly doubled to flak with the new patch. Unfortunately, I'm not good at the nuts and bolts of the game and showing my work like you...so again, thanks. Hopefully, this is something that gets fixed soon as it had a pretty negative impact on my current campaign.
