You are most welcome.

Interesting discussion here. I remember one like this way back ... I can't remember if Alfred or JWE jumped in, but I do recall some pretty clear statements were made about rockets, generally that rockets were implemented with their own code. You've got essentially 5 Types of rockets defined in the stock scenarios (GA Rocket Type 1, GB Bomb Type 3, AA rockets Type 11, Army Weapons Type 19, and Aircraft Engine Type 27).

Code: Select all

UnitNumber	Name Type TypeName
744 20cm T04 Rockets 19 Army Weapon
871 132mm BM-13 Rockets 19 Army Weapon
1168 4.5in Rocket Art'y 19 Army Weapon
1339 3" Rockets 3 GP bomb
1684 12cm AA Rocket 11 AA rocket
1756 4.5in Rocket 1 GA rocket
1757 5.0in Rocket 1 GA rocket
1938 Toko Rocket 27 Aircraft engine
It would seem from this variety that you should have a blueprint to work from the create the device that you want. But maybe I'm missing something here.

Pax. Ok and thanks for joining in.

My next question is on air launched missiles - in stock they are CL on planes does that help or does it matter if they are just external - I think if they are loaded as external they will always pretty much miss - I was thinking that is why stock has say the Okha as CL on the Betty to help with whatever calculation the game has - but who knows I maybe wrong :)

The Ohka man guided weapon was a centerline mounted weapon. That also limits the number of weapons that can be carried since the wing mounted weapons would be on each side. External just means that they are mounted outside of the airframe which does not eliminate a centerline mounted weapon such as the torpedoes that the Kates and Devastators carried unlike the Avengers which carried the torpedo an internal centerline mounted weapon.

If you look at the weapons accuracy ratings, centerline mounted weapons usually have twice the accuracy rating which a player might be able to change in the editor.

OK, let's break down what we know about CenterLine (CL).

We know on Type 0 Devices (Aircraft Cannons), that CL will double the accuracy. This is visible in game and confirmed in game results. It is a BIG deal.

I haven't seen any dev expand on that. I could be wrong, but that's my memory.
We know that the code is VERY specific, meaning routines are called specifically not generally. I haven't observed any difference in bomb accuracy between internal/external/centerline, but I have NOT done any rigorous testing on it.

What we do know about centerline is from michael some years ago:
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 2#p3055532
Centre-line means one attachment point. Thus only one device is mounted there.
In this case either the torpedo or drop tank is mounted.

The in-game database shows all possible devices. The actual devices mounted would be shown in the aircraft data for the group which is generally based on the mission selection normally.
I wouldn't extrapolate anything further about it.

OK and thanks

To me I notice no diff for bombs etc CL or other wise but we all know it does affect guns on CL.

I think any number of weapons like bombs could be CL and it seems to make no difference its just an abstraction it seems to me - CL is not restricted to one weapon from what I can see and it seems to be its only there for purposes of the guns . It is interesting though that weapons like Okha are CL in stock and I changed mine back to CL from external as I have not had one had in about 50 ot 60 launches from external - so we will see if CL makes any difference for these guys.

Yes agree with your point but CL only seems to affect guns , MG and cannon types not other things, I see no diff for TT on CL or external in terms of hits, It seems to be just a cosmetic description. But for good measure I have changed my missiles back to CL as per stock in case its does something we don't want. I will assume stock CL for missiles is not doubling but has some other affect - a bit like mine slots for subs and a few others.

Cav,

Not knowing the code and the routines called, my approach has always been to use a boilerplate if one is available. Meaning, go back up to my earlier post where I listed all the rockets that were created by the devs. I try to find one that is closest to what I want to do, and then use that as my template. If it is CL, then I keep CL, same with all the other fields as much as I can. My reasoning is that there MIGHT be something under the hood looking for something that I can't know.

Pay attention to the device TYPE, not name. To the best of our collective knowledge, there is very little code based upon names (IJ CV initial air group sizes is one example), but they do trigger off of TYPE frequently.

Your list of "but CL only seems to affect guns , MG and cannon types " are all in one TYPE=0, Aircraft Cannon, so they all use the same code.

Good Luck!!!
