John, don't get me wrong, it's not a financial issue, it's the principle. Matrix have a distribution deal in the UK through Justplay and the discount deal should be available through them. They know that UK gamers are not going to claim the discount through themselves because it's not financially viable. Whether I would take advantage of the deal is neither here nor there. What is more important is whether I should purchase a game published by a company that does not support the UK wargaming community. As regards Matrix not being the original publishers and not making on the deal, this would be a fair point if they wern't offering a discount anywhere. Matrix Games are only interested in the North American market and as far as they are concerned the rest of the world can go swivel

I refuse to waste anymore time on these forums. To those with whom I've engaged in discussions, thankyou :) . To Matrix, a big :p
Thankyou for using the World Wide Web. British designed, given freely to the World.

Please note that the offer DOES apply to UK customers! The original post was in error and has since been corrected.

Hi Kevinugly

Before you run off with the wrong idea lets set some facts down. Highway to the Reich currently does not have a UK or anything but a North American publisher. So we are taken the extra step in supporting the European gamer. Let me say even if we did they may not want to except the extra work for a project they had nothing to do with this.

Dave O'Connor wanted to go the extra mile for the gamers that were supporting him and we wanted to back him. What you are totally missing here is that we are trying to support European wargaming market but we are just to small to do it directly via Matrix any better then we are.

I do hope you will reconsider our games and supporting us.

Kevin,

Please cut us a bit of slack here. We're all trying to do the right thing. But there are limits to what we can do with our limited resources. If we had the resources of a large publisher, we could say sure, let's set up a European office to cut down on the shipping and import costs to our European customers. Gee I would like to do the same for our Australian customers too. But we just do not have that capacity.

It's time to get real and ask what do you really want. If you want us to keep developing and publishing top quality wargames, then we need your support. Surely, that's more important in the long run than in saving a few bucks now.

OK, can someone help me out here on what will be the best way for this Brit to get the game ?

If there is no UK distribution deal, then obviously just going to the store and buying it is out. That leaves three options;

1. Order at full price from Matrix and keep my AA disk... I assume this will also involve paying your normal shipping costs for courier (PLEASE, what is wrong with USPG ? Why can't I pay $7 - it doesn't seem to be a problem with the offer)

2. Take advantage of the offer and pay £34.99, plus $7 shipping. Plus whatever it costs to mail the disk. Plus (what everyone forgets) the extra 17 1/2 % VAT (effectively an import tax in this instance) the Post Office will demand before they hand the package over. Not to mention farting about getting a money order (there must be a way of doing it by credit card, surely ?)

3. Wait for the usual Euro stockists (Duchet, Strategic Plus) to get the imported game. Pay £30 or so plus a couple of quid postage.

Is there any reason Duchet won't be getting a stock of HttR fairly quickly ? If they will, option three seems like the only one worthy of consideration.

BTW, why do we have to mail the CD rather than, say, just the title page from the manual ? That would at least save a little postage.

I have to agree with Hertston. The only financial sound option is to wait for the importers. While I appreciate the rebate offer it will save us Europeans little. Sending the CD oversea costs a lot, a money order has extra handling costs and if the game is send in the legal way (ie not declared as a gift with a worth less then whatever amout makes customs look at the package) we get a hefty import tax. Sorry if this sounds negative or like wining I just want to point out why I as a supporter of this game won't use this offer.

I wonder why the justplay guys don't stock it. They do it for other matrix games so why not this one?

I hoped the trade in deal would be worth it but alas it would end up costing so much doing it the MATRIX way.

By the time you have gotten your money order in US funds (7-10 days) and paid the handling charges to the bank, then paid customs their cut, it would end up costing more than the games RRP.

I'm afraid I will probably wait until it appears in the bargain bin next year.

I was looking forward to this game but I will just keep playing AARDoA.
Certainly don't want to send the cd away anyway.
