Turn 1 complete. I sent AAR to Luskan so he can edit it and post it.

Well I'm sitting here waiting for Luskan to get the turn back and I have these sudden sharp pains in my stomach. I can't figure it out till I lolok at the clock and realize I have not eaten in 14 hours. Maybe I'll go to bed. (after I eat)

Well, I'm off to bed myself (big day at work) so no more turns for 9 hours.

Here is Mog's combat replay.

In short, his airfield attacks yielded him 250 of my aircraft caught on the ground (roosevelt very unhappy), his pearl didn't go nearly so well (he sank 1 bb, the rest will survive, a couple undamaged, and he lost 30 planes to flak). He did come up big with bombardment groups hitting almost every allied base in the eastern and northern SRA that had ships in port and smacked most of them around. he also stole wake, and will be arriving around the place fairly soon.

Hi, I'm including a file AAR.txt. Once you add what you want to it you can post it in the thread.

RE: Luskan versus Mogami.

Post by TIMJOT »

ORIGINAL: Mogami

Hi, 25th Army had 4 Divisions (one was a second wave) The Imperial Guards marched down from the north while the 5th and 18th landed at Songkari and Khota Bharu with the 56th landing later at Kuantan. With only 1 road in the north and 1 on the coast the supply line was rather thin.

The Japanese supported 6 divisions and 3 Bde by sea early in the war.

Mogami, ..... Mike is correct the 25th army had 4 divisions but, Yamashita only used 3 and one of those as you point out marched overland. It was the 56th "Regiment" of the 18th Division that landed at Kuantan. The 25th Army's 56th Div. was held in reserve and eventually re-assigned to the 15th Army in Burma.

Mike, .....Mogami is correct more units could have been supported in Malaya "IF" Japan foregoes other operations historically mounted simutaneously (ie; the PI ops or maybe SOPAC ops )

Mogami

I'm suprised to see you go so far south (Port Moresby, Noumea) this early without grabing more oil and resources first. Will it be hard to keep these southern bases supplied and defended this early? [:-]

Luskan

This looks like a opportunity to retake these (if you can marshal your forces) while Mogami is busy going after needed oil[;)] If Mogami can keep and build up these advance bases the land of OZ maybe in trouble.[X(]

That was ME, not Mogami! [:D]

Denial of bases that allow aircraft to be transferred is far more important then starving troops.

Noumea, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Amboina and Kendari all have size 4 or better airfields.

By breaking the path from the USA to Australia you ensure that nothing can move from the east to help in the slaughter in the SRA.

There are other size 4+ bases that need to be taken out in the SRA, but these key ones prevent any help coming from anywhere outside the area and ensure that nothing can be brought up from the south to help out the SRA.

Also note that any location that has a resource production facility is self supplying.

Also note that both Rabaul and Noumea have large amounts of fuel that can be captured or at least destroyed to prevent Australia from getting it.

WEll, the screen shot will look pretty daunting. Mog is spreading all over the map - and due to his timely and careful preparation he has left no invasion force (that I've foudn so far) uncovered.

Which means that my initial "hell for leather" reaction was the wrong one to begin with. However, by spreading out over so many small bases I think he'll either loose coordination at some point, or more importantly, he will spread himself too thin.

I think my first turn mistake cost me far too many ships - mostly dutch - that I can ill afford to loose in the SRA. As a result i have made mog's turns 3-10 much much easier. On the other hand, he as already made so many invasions and been shot at by so many shells from CD batteries that he has copped it and by estimation has lost 10000 troops already. Maybe a little less?

I have a couple of small plans in the works but mostly I am about tying to keep my haed above water. it was an excellent first turn and thoroughly enjoyable. I'm looking forward to seeing how much I can slow the jugegrnaut down.

Mogami:

Are your troop losses as high as they sound? As pointed out you have taken a lot of ground but are taking a lot of losses in the landings. Did you expect this?

It seems like you plan for everything pretty carefully, will it take a long time to get these assault troops back to effective strength levels after the landings?

Thanks for the ARR, a very impressive opening move! It sounds like a tidal wave. I think Luskan will have to be "creative" and unorthodox to make an impact early in this game.

That doesn't sound so bad!

It seemed a lot worse when reading the combat reports.

I just want to confirm something -

I think I read before that troops will be lost even when landing on an 'empty' beach to account for accidents and the like is this so?

Mogami - you mentioned that most of your 'lost' troops have been disabled - however do you find that the coastal guns dramatically effect your troops effectiveness and how badly damaged are your ships from this defensive fire?
