how did the Choko Maru jump from hex 36,54 to 82,63 on the same day ?

Is there two ships with that name ?

exellent ?, perhaps that has to do with the one time ability of ijn ships to move 20 phased moves on turn one?

I would believe its the first turn movement.... BUT, IJN has a ton of ships with almost identical name except for a number.

Ah I think I see the logic in the flow of that battle.

The first part was the IJN bombardment of Wake. The computer resolved it first.

The Choko Maru and the other Transports then were resolved. They got ambushed on way to Wake. The computer Simply reported this AFTER the bombardment but in ACTUALITY it happened bEFORE the invasion of wake.

The last part was the Heavily damage Choko Maru getting sunk at Wake (after making it there with torpedo damage) by the coastal guns.

More action heats up all over the place.

First off... My Shock attack at Hong Kong nearly gives me the fort, as my engineers destroy the remaining 5 levels of forts in one attack. My troops should capture HK next turn..

Rob tried to use a couple Dutch DDs to bombard my air base at Kendari and drew fire from the CD unit I moved there with the invasion force. The CD unit returned more fire than the 2 DDs gave out and pummeled one DD.. The heavily damaged DD sunk as they fled from the scene under cover of darkness. While the CDs at Kendari did its job protecting the base, another allied TF came in with guns blazing and engaged the 3 lil DDs I just moved into the base for some protection. The 2 CLs & 4 DDs opened fire on my DDs and sunk one, damaging another. Luckily my DDs fled early in the fight, saving themselves.

At Balikpapin heavy ground combat followed a night attack on my supply AKs by a small group of allied PTs... 1 AK was sunk and another damaged, but supplies continued to be delivered to the forces on the island to support their attack. Their attack failed to capture the base but destroyed the level 1 fort there. Hopefully the reinforcements will land next turn and allow them to capture the base.

My BB TF sailing south along the west coast of Borneo drew more air attacks of which none even came close to hitting, despite a major sortie of over 15 planes. My TFs is still chasing several allied TFs south trying to catch them.

My Nells operating out of Kendari located and attacked several TFs this turn sinking numerous merchies and a pair of MSWs... They also reported landing a torp into the side of CL Dragon as well as another half dozen allied merchies. These non-kills should slow the ships down enough for another attack on the next turn.. Not to mention the 4-5 TFs I'm chasing down the west coast of Borneo into Nell range [:D] [:D]

2 Allied AKs sunk this turn from previous damage. I lost 3 ships this turn: a DD & AK to surface actions and an AK to a sub.

My baby CVs are encountering dozens of easy targets south and southwest of Mindanao and my inexperienced Kate pilots are getting a crash course on torp bombing against relatively undefended merchies... They are responding to the live-fire training quite well, sinking 2 AKs and a TK and damaging several others.

Personally I would rather have my Nells and Kates attacking allied warships fleeing the DEI, but so far they are proving hard to locate and attack so my pilots are hitting what they can find and reach..

I still have not had a successful ASW attack against allied subs and I hope my luck changes soon as almost every turn I lose at least one ship to them.

The KB pulled back from PH last turn and is enroute to its rendevous with a replenishment TF. Once refueled, they will proceed at high speed back home to take on new pilots and aircraft. I think I left the replenishment TF too far away on account of worries about bombers from PH and / or Midway spotting them and attacking... But oh well...

Not much on the plans except consolidating my gains and moving to cut off Singapore and Northern PI... I am at least 3 weeks ahead of where I was last game in this regard and will hopefully capture both Malaya and the PI in January 42.. But we will see once my men in both places actually run into some units that will put up a fight.

Here is the reports...

Naah.. Not badly overextended.. Just that none of my warship TFs are moving as many hexes as they are supposed to be still. It says they will move 6/3 but they realistically only move like 6 or 7 total hexes.. That and they keep trying to retire AWAY from their destination.. Makes no sense... thier destination is a zie 3+ port with ample supply...

If it is set on mission speed an SCTF is only going to cruise to its DH. If you want to move 6 in each phase (and burn plenty fuel) you need to set full speed.

With mission speed is shows 6/3 being its movement for the day. If I up it to full speed it will change to 6/6 movement. Either way I have been noticings TFs never move the indicated number of hexes - all have plenty of fuel... They all seem to move roughly 80-90% of the indicated total, always 1-2 hexes short of what they say they will move..

Have a surface TF heading to a base of mine under attack - its 9 hexes away.. TF says it will move 9 hexes in a turn so I leave it alone.. Poof.. RUn turn, TF stops 1 hex away from destination - thus only moving 8 hexes... Have had this happen multiple times.

BALIKPAPAN HOLDS!

(BBC Singapore) Despite 2 days of heavy fighting the Dutch Colony of Balikpapan continues to stave off at least a division of Japanese troops. ABDA says its rushing reinforcements via transport to the area. Dutch naval units were in action south of the colony again last night claiming at least 1 enemy troop transport and damaging two others.

DUTCH WARSHIPS BLAST JAPANESE NAVY FOR 2nd DAY

(BBC Singapore) A Dutch task force led by the Dutch Cruiser DeRuyter attacked and sank a Japanese destroyer and heavily damaged a second one off of Kendari. The Dutch warships slipped past the burning warships and sank two troop ships and leaving 2 others burning. ABDA command believes the Japanese are "very very overextended" and will press attacks any change they get.

No confirmation from the US side but Tokyo Rose is bragging about the heavy allied naval losses... [:D]

Allied Naval Losses: 27 ships / 774 points
Ships: 10 AK, 1 AO, 3 AP, 3 BB (Nevada, California & Tennessee), 2 CL, 2 DD, 1 ML, 3 MSW, 1 PT and 1 TK

Japanese Naval Losses: 13 ships / 61 points
Ships: 3 AK, 4 AP, 1 DD, 1 MSW, 3 PC and 1 TK

Of IJN losses, only the loss of the DD and TK are important, as Japan never has enough of either of these. The AKs and AP losses are not that important as I have hundreds of spares and more coming off the lines. The problem with 1 of the AP losses, was that it was half full of troops attempting to invade Balikpapin - thus the base has not fallen yet.

On another topic, is it me, or does is the California the first BB to sink at PH every time.. In any game I have played I have always sunk the California at PH (if I sink any BBs that is). I would think the Arizona would have a flag to make it the first victim if any would... Or is the California just a piece of crap and can't take the beating like the rest ?

Of course
Sorry, I had to ask.

You know, I have had it happen before (in UV, but hey) that an especially astute/perceptive/prescient/cheating TF commander of mine will "sense" the presence of a minefield that I do not know is there. He will avoid the hex with the minefield in it unless I drag him into it like a scolded puppy, then he will smirk "I told you so" as his highest-value vessel runs onto a mine. I wonder whether rroberson has mined this invasion hex; this tactic was mentioned recently in another thread.

Only Rob can answer that... I did catch and sink a ML in the hex - maybe he dropped his load before I caught him... maybe not.. If that is the reason (if Rob will tell) then it needs fixed as it is a dead giveaway...

Xargun

PS if he did mine it that means I need to bring some MSWs a LONG way through contested air zones to clear them... I think not !!

Do I detect a note of envy? Anyway, I don't have the OOB with me, but historically the two weakest ships on Battleship Row were Nevada and Oklahoma. The remaning six were all built on pretty close to the same hull design, and should have been able to absorb roughly the same amount of punishment. How much punishment they receive during the Dec. 7th turn is of course random, especially since the game is not able to model which ships were on the inside, and therefore shielded from torpedoes.
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

The turn started with some good news barely.. I spotted the POW and Repulse battlegroup. That was the good news.. The bad news is they somehow made it to Balikpapin without me spotting them at all and pulverized all my ships supporting the invasion - including my newly arrived combat TF.. In all I beat up an allied DD and CL and lost the following: 2 CA, 3 DD and a pair of AKs I believe. The enemy battlegroup is huge - roughly a dozen ships including both POW & Repulse, 2 CLs and a bunch of DDs.

After the POW Battlegroup cleared the hex, in came 2 smaller bombardment TFs consisting of DDs and CLs and bombarded my invasion force. Luckily they did minimal damage, but now there are like 20+ allied warships all over the area near Balikpapin and my Nells at Kendari are being stupid... They are attacking small DD groups with like 4 or so planes... Of course they are not getting any hits and just wasting my attacks..

Also.. Somehow one of my TFs ended up at Soerbaja and apparently bombarding - although I sent no such orders and several DDs were damaged. I sent them into the hex to attack enemy shipping - should the CD guns open fire for that ? I'm not sure.

Also had a dutch Do24 scout plane hit a single AK twice in one turn with bombs - while in port with over 50 fighters on CAP - this is ridiculus... The Do24s only hit ships in port never at sea - at least I never see that... I understand they are an easier target while docked, but the fighters should be covering docked ships too...

Two allied ships finally succumbed to previous damage: 1 AP & 1 AK... I also caught and sunk 4 more AKs NE of Kendari.

I have captured Sandakan (Borneo), Tacloaban (PI I think) and Hong Kong... MY units in Hong Kong Shock attacked again and capture the base with NO damage to its facilities nor industries and captured over 13000 British fools.... I think I have a bridge to build in Burma with these men... Something about the River Kwii (sp ?) ?? Hong Kong also gave me nearly 30000 supplies and roughly 500 oil and resources stockpiled so the HI will be producing for me next turn. I may have found a bug though.. According to the base screen I 262 Mines in the port - I know they are not my mines... So these are probably the allied defensive mines left in port. I don't think this is supposed to show these.

In all a poor turn for my naval forces as they were no match for the POW battlegroup, but I am sailing my BB TF (which visited Soerbaja this turn trying to catch TFs) at full speed to attempt to catch some of these allied warships and return the favor - especially since most of them should be out of torps now...

Well here's the turn...
