Dear Wild Will (and all the others who replied),

I like the little camapigns as much as the long ones.
So, Hürtgen Wald (as we call it) is a very intersting battle to cover. The wargamer that I am I allways ask myself wether u all do the "old" boardgames, cause a company called "the gamers" cover exactly this campaign. So, if u need unit backgrounds or a real, real good map, try to get hold of "Objective Schimdt". It's all in there. If u got further questions, post it, I'll check frequently.

To the others:
A Grossdeutschland Campaign would defenetly be something for a "MEGA" campaign.
something like 300+ battles go through my mind (kiding).
All the other ideas, only a single word: Great!

I just wonder wether u all know ASL (Advanced Squad Leader), the game who seems to be the idea of SP and all that followed.

So, I hope it is informative

George

P.S. PLease read my last statemant in "My fictive Kursk Campaign", cause it deals with "Campaigns" as well, I am curious....

I did read your article on Kursk and posted a note there for you.

I'm very familiar with both ASL and "The Gamers" series of games. They have some great material and the SL/ASL series are classics, no doubt about that!

I'll see if I can find Objective Schmidt.

I'll be posting more on this as we go along, but I'm glad to hear from you, George.

Hey Bill,

There are a lot of ideas on this thread. Maybe you could give a class on campaign design, something I have NO knowledge on whatsoever.

Mein Oberst,
This ideia sounds marvelous!! count me in for test it!!
and about the ideia of a class for campaing makers, I enjoyed it a lot.. :D
I'm thinking to design a small campaing about Operation Mercury. The scenario about Heraklion assault is already been tested so I already have two: Maleme and Heraklion

yeah, ...as frequent visitor of the huertgen forest area (..relics hunting with MD), I´m very interested in your mini campaign as well, WB! :)

Also the "stolberg corridor" battle or the fightings before/after november44 in the area would be great,..something I have in my bag. Or "heartbreak crossroads"?

If I can help with newer 1:25000 map scans of the area, let me know.

WB,

I'm from Pennsylvania and I know from (a little)family oral history what your reffering to.

All I can say to all the guys that are saying, "Yeah go for it!" is get ready to get "shot to pieces".

Unless of course your planning on playing the Germans.

I'm glad its you thats doing this WB, not becouse you make great senerios but becouse you have a real sence of the sacerfice that many of these soldiers made.

I very much appreciate your words, here commander.

It is true and it is a phenomenon that I cannot explain. In reading over the history of a battle first, I cannot help but get a feel of the moment in my soul.

While I do want to offer a nice gaming experience, I try to input something of the "feeling" of the moment for both sides.

The 28th suffered horribly during November, 1944, and it appears that a lot of that was due not only to the deadliness of the terrain the Keystone Division faced, but the inept handling of the offensive by General Hodges and Gerow.

Poor General Cota appears to have been the victim of the higher commande and poor communication.

The men of the "Bloody Bucket" Division showed courage under fire and suffered horribly between November 2nd-13th, 1944.

The idea of giving them time to recuperate and rebuild by being moved to a "quiet" sector of the frontlines did not work out too well either.

But this is war, and the reality is that this is what war is about.

Thanks, Commander...Wild Bill
