Never been to New Orleans/Mardi Gras. Sigh. I guess I have to settle for the "girls gone wild" stuff.

Mogami, I lived in NOLA 86-93 If you were there then we might have crossed paths I spent a lot of time in Jackson Square. Met alot of great people and some not . Ever go to Jazz Fest. My favorite 2 weeks of the year. Even more than Mardi Gras.[8D]

Hi, I was in NO in that time frame however it was during port vists. My ship USS Halyburton FFG-40 was adopted by Baton Rouge during the first Gulf War. Afterwards we made a vist there and stayed in NO for a few days.
I was in New Orleans for some time in 98 while on another extended road journy. (went to Evertt Washington from New Orleans took 12 days to hitchhike. I left NO after a rather protracted battle one night with crack heads under the I-10 overpass on Canal Street. )
Have not been back since. I think it was in 98. I had stayed in Lake Charles a few years before. Went down with one of my biker bro's (Bear) We kept planning on going to NO but never made it. (was making money changing light bulbs on towers)
I have mixed emotions about Louisana. My brother was killed in an auto accident in Layfette in 89. (I won a chess tourny there in 88) I also won prize money in Alexandria while I was on the road. (on my way back from Lake Charles)
I've been both down and out in New Orleans and there with a pocket of money. (worked over 100 hours in Galveston as a steveadore in 1978 at 8.80 per hour (but then add in the time an half and double time) A much nicer place to be when you have jack.

Cool. Just so long as it had nothing to do with "Dick" Cheney's criminal former employer.

Yep, New Orleans can be a tough place. Stopped going to Mardi Gras when it became a contact sport. You either hate or love New Orleans almost instaneously. I guess I loved it as I fought off transfers until 1994. But as I said I always go back for Jazz Fest even though the crowds sometimes exceed the venue. It's a much more mellow time. But then I always come back to my beach.[8D]
