YOu have to restart for OOB changes. You don't have to for code changes, but any anamolies from bugs that have occured already will not be fixed if you don't.

Does that include OOB changes to units not yet arrived? That is my main concern.

This whole OOB change requiring restart is messing with my plans to truly start the campaign on Dec 7th and then try to finish by August 2008...

All OOB changes are picked up once. Nothing, nothing, modifed to the database will be picked up if you continue a current game. All units will be exactly, and arrive when, they did in 1.21 unless you restart.

I agree, it is a pain. Considering I bought the game on day 1, if not for restarting for OOB works I might have been in '43 or '44 now. Oh well, I love the game that much that I'll slug it out.

Rats!!!! In my present game, on Dec 9th Force Z caught the Japanese at Khota Bahru and a 14" shell from the PoW hit the magazine on Haruna and sent her to the bottom (though it took three weeks before the intelligence report verified the sinking). The PoW did take a couple of Long Lances into her bowels but was able to make it back to Singapore and has since been evacuated to Perth.

Two weeks later Swordfish operating out of Singapore sent the Ryujo to the bottom of the South China Sea. You can see that this has been a very satisfying campaign for this Royal Navy Fanboy, one that I am loathe to quit. Oh well... I'll probably move my latest save to a disk just to reload and savour on occasion.

EDIT: No more whining... the new database is great! Singapore biplane patrol craft flying out of Suva, too cool!!!

Why are we concerned with ship nationality in the game anyway? No impact except maybe for leaders, and leaders are a rather minimal as regards impact as well.

Now, if ship nationality had an impact on operations (mixed TFs get a combat penalty) and ships were assigned to HQs, then we'ed have something.

Why are'nt ships assigned to Fleet HQs, anyway? I guess we would need Fleet HQs first.[8|] This would seem to be a given as everything else is. MacArthur and Nimitz were always battling over ships. Mac wanted CVs for his theatre but Nimitz held off and committed to his Central Pacific strategy, a dual pincer when combined with Mac's forces.

For Japan, the Army and Navy had their own seperate AK/AP force pool. Assigning ships to HQs and applying PPs to transfer them and PP tolls for the use ofshipping not under same HQ might work wonders in simulating command squabbles and keep ships from being used unrealistically.

Wait.... fleet HQs don't do anything? So what is the point of the US Asiatic Fleet HQ unit in Manila?

It's an HQ, there is no benefit to fleet units except for repair Ithink. There is no link between ships and HQ and no restriction. Many are missing like SubPac.
