It is slower after 1.4. Training crews was about 2 secs now it is around 9.

9 Seconds? You're complaining about 9 seconds?? This thing runs over a minute on an average machine for most people.

Yea, I was able to do 1 month game time in one evening, now only 1-2 weeks, cause it is not only training crews slower now, it is everything slower a bit, like reassigning etc.

Each version is a plue & minus situation.

Code routines get optimized increasing performance.

New routines/features get added decreasing performance.

Some of the bug fixes run as global routines proofing errors. (decrease in performance)

A good example of this is the new leader recovery routine. It is net new (decreasing performance) but Mike did some amazing optimizations (increasing performance).

To keep you speed up, turning off things like range rings and overlays like roads and ZoC stuff causes far less processing when moving the map around (screen redraws) and gives you the best performance you can get.

Some folks (very dependant on their hardware) will actually run faster in windowed mode then in full screen.

one thing I noticed, is that the message speeds were changed to the program default speed when I loaded 1.4. I reset to the value I like, and the speed appears to be about the same as 1.3.

One thing I caught that should be brought up as a warning, is that all of my game settings including difficulty setting was reset to the default. I'm playing "very hard" so if I hadn't changed it I would have been playing at a level lower then I wanted.

The preferences file gets zapped when you patch. This is to avoid problems with new settings.

You need to reset your personal preferences after patching.

Wow!! I can't wait to try this out. (I haven't been to my computer in two days, so I don't have the patch).

Now I won't get nearly as much house stuff done (I do house stuff while waiting for turns to resolve)
There is NO difference. It still takes forever and a day for a save or reply file to load. And the training ship crews step still takes almost forever. The patch DOES reset your message delay settings, giving some players the illusion that something was "optimized".

I agree. it still takes about 30-35 seconds to finish the "training ship crews" step.
I have an AMD 2500XP with 512 MB RAM and a Radeon 8500 Graphics card.

It takes only about 5 seconds in my turn, and I have Barthon 2500+ with 512 MB Ram, almost the same as you do.

Hrmmm maybe we should talk about how to optimize for this game, I have a Thunderbird 1.2 with 768mb of ram and I measure this phase in minutes, not seconds.

K..so how do you optimize the game?

Who has good turn optimiztion strategies?
Please make a modern strategic Naval wargame for the PC.

I'm not sure what else I can do. I have all my latest drivers, keep nothing running in the background and never ever alt-tab out. Currently running XP Sp2 and have disk checked and defragged my system.

There was small prog GameOS or something, it theoretically puts all system services on background and runs only the game. I'll try it this evening and post my observations.

Good idea, I'll google that tonight and give it a whirl.
