What did they DO to WITP?!
I just installed 1.4 and...
Holy code optimization, Batman!
I used to run the game at 0.1-0.3 delay on all message and combat settings. This time the turn zipped through so fast I couldn't read anything. Surprised the hell out of me. I must be getting something in the range of a 300-500% performance spike. [X(]
That's a new record. Turn 1 of Scen 15 zipped by in about 5 minutes flat and I had to restart it. Not that I'm complaining... [:D]

Wow! I'm really, really happy to hear about this! Did the dreaded "Training Ship Crews" phase get sped up as well?

Hello...
We try to optimize each build. Our biggest problem is that many people want many new features, most of which add to execution time.
Glad You are happy...

A matter of some 20 seconds or so on my machine.

Well, whatever you did, I plowed through half a month game time in a night. Nice work.[:)]

Features are a good thing but so is this sweet little improvement. WOW, what a difference on my old Athlon 1000! The old girl is gonna stay on my desk even longer now. Thanks ever so much for doing this.[&o]

Yeah I just got a brand new Dell, so it wasn't really a problem for me before, but man does this puppy fly now!

Wow!! I can't wait to try this out. (I haven't been to my computer in two days, so I don't have the patch).
Now I won't get nearly as much house stuff done (I do house stuff while waiting for turns to resolve)

The older I get, the better I was.
RE: What did they DO to WITP?!
I'm running on an Athalon 2400+ and it seems to play a little faster but not a huge difference. Changing to medium video resolution did help though, since I'm using a rather limited integrated S3 video chip with only 32 meg. Quicker on the graphics.

There is NO difference. It still takes forever and a day for a save or reply file to load. And the training ship crews step still takes almost forever. The patch DOES reset your message delay settings, giving some players the illusion that something was "optimized".ORIGINAL: Bradley7735

RE: What did they DO to WITP?!
It's probably hardware dependent. Trust me, it's three to five times as fast.

Sure makes a difference with my old bag of a Thunderbird.

RE: What did they DO to WITP?!
Makes a huge difference on my XP2500 Barton, too. Try turning all the message settings to 0.1 and hit Z after you end a turn.[:D]
Now, I read fast, and that's the setting I used to use (as well as the first thing I adjusted aside from resolution after patching), but there's just no way I can play like that now. It was rather like hitting the forward search function on a DVD player several times. Currently everything is set to 0.5, and it's still faster than it used to be.

RE: What did they DO to WITP?!
No noticeable improvement on my 750MHz P3...and I'd expect to have noticed if the improvement was as great as has been said here.
On the other hand, it means that I can still read a book while turns go on, so there's always an upside!
This ought to be something capable of being tested: Anyone have 1.3 and 1.4 still loaded?
Steve.

RE: What did they DO to WITP?!
Hoochy Momma!!! Got at least a 30% improvement on an AMD 1.2 with 768MB RAM XP SP2. The AI phase seems to take longer (not a complaint an observation) but the turn resolution is much faster. Also, I seem to be getting a much snappier response from the UI during my turn. Loading and saving seem to take about the same length
And yes I know it messed with my message delay's - it increased them to the default. So that wouldn't make me speed up if I hadn't noticed, I would slow down.

I agree. it still takes about 30-35 seconds to finish the "training ship crews" step.
I have an AMD 2500XP with 512 MB RAM and a Radeon 8500 Graphics card.

It is slower after 1.4. Training crews was about 2 secs now it is around 9.
