Hey I was not slamming him. It can take a while to answer Gavris. Language barrier or no he could learn to leave more data.

Running in to the room and asking the most general questions I have ever seen can make

Now, on final, how to rename this ''granatgomb'' (which is obviously a spelling mistake)? Without many jokes, words or funny answers.....please. Probably it was intended to a hand grenade ? A german name ? But no german dictionary didn't have it !
And isn't any german on forum to explain that ? I guess it is somelike granate + bomb ! But, why was this added ''bomb'' word ?
Please, you' german folks, make a clarity about subject.

Gavris I have a question for you. How was 'what was the unit doing?" a funny thing or a joke. If you had told me an infantry assault I could have told you.

I beg of you please have more data when you ask a question.

The wonders of the internet. Granatgomb is in the Hungarian OOB, so search google for 'hungarian-english dictionary' put in gomb and find it means "button, stud, knob"

So it would seem likely to be a wartime german/hungarian slang of some kind. Granat and gomb would seem to be some sort of "knob shell" or "button shell" - likely having to do with the shape perhaps like a doorknob?

Makes sense dealing with a hand granade...

I know I should probably let this thread die, but if you scroll up 'its a hand grenade' and 'its in Hungarian' were posted yesterday in small (1-2 line) posts.

Well, at least I now know 2 Hungarian words granatgomb and paprika (pepper).

Tracer, you made my day! :D

It's called Paprika in Swedish as well! No wonder we got it from the Hungarians, they're growing peppers all over the place.

Goulasch, anyone?

Really entertaining this one. Maybe the explanation would be that early grenades weren't ball-like or egg-shaped as the standard war movie throwaway thingie. They had a wooden part where you held it in your hand and threw it.
