Each to his own opinion of course, but saying that it is flawed in every aspect is way over the top. This is especially true if your biggest complaint is the sprites. I know that you WANT to use sprites, but the game encourages you to use counters. These are very functional and the majority of posters on the forum seem to prefer the counters in any case.

To me, the combat system in HOI2 is one of the best I ahve ever seen. Yet it is too complicated for some. Others have trouble accepting that the "battle" is over in a few hours when in fact the battle is really not over until you have finished advancing into the territory and the former defender's counter attacks beaten back.

It is a very complicated game and almost anyone can find some aspect of it that they don't like. That is still not to say that every aspect is flawed.

To be honest, I was slightly disappointed that WaW did not have a counter option. I think it is the sprites only appearance that is responsible for most of the A&A comparisons even though the two games have very little in common.

As opposed to rehashing all of the numerous complaints about the game on an unrelated thread please go here to see some of what im talking about

I am familiar with the complaints and have several hundred posts on that forum. I just don't share all of the complaints. I won't claim that the game does not have flaws, however. It definitely does. I just don't think it has as many as you seem to think it does.

A lot of those items are matters of preference.

Hearts of Irons was a beast. I find Hearts of Iron a breeze to play! All the commands game interfaces are much simpler! I have WAW but have not been able to put down HOI2 to even install WAW. I like starting at 1936 and working from there.

If you are looking for a real exciting game, there will be a AI version of Bruce Harper's "A World at War". I believe it is schedule for a 2nd qtr 2006 release. Now that will be a game to play! I know Mark Buttaoni plays it and likes it.

Where are you guys getting info about upcoming patch for HOI2? i'd like to look into it, but its official site must be down or something main site for HOI2 is up but www.paradoxplaza.com (which is its forum site and such) is not comeing up for me :(

i'm enjoying WAW, but may like to also try HOI2, i liked the first one but the absolutly neccesary micromanagment got old, although from what little i have read that has been alleviated to some extent possibly making it much more enjoyable :) i like to be ABLE to micromanage not REQUIRED to :)

I am with Darwin, HOI2 is a great game. And that thing about the sprites.., who in the heck uses them!!! Gotta use the counters. Anyway, everybody on here has personal preferences (like me, I do not like real time games), but HOI2 is an incredible game and it is well done. Do not be misled.

But also, I am only on page 30+ of the manual and this GGWAW looks good. I cannot wait to try multiplayer.

So to the guy that started this, HOI2 is money! And if you have tons of wargaming experience, you can grasp it. If you are a first time wargamer.., you will find it somewhat daunting, but you can beat the AI. When you play humans, you are in for deep crap as most of them are hard core gamers. Spend some time on this game it seems to attract all types (moderate and insanely dedicated wargamers). Then maybe check out HOI2. Don't do HOI2, its pretty deep, but awesome!!

Good luck and good gaming.
