Seriously though, action started during the daytime. So they spot each other way ahead of being in range, BB's should be getting pot shots at this whole TF while closing in. I don't see any possible way this outcome could occur unless night fighting, then include 100 torpedoes...[:'(]
Yamato, IMO the best looking Battleship.

I have no idea how this happened either, which is why I'm not being serious.[:D]

Hi, and this is a stock scenario? No one modded the 6in into a 18in?
Stock scenario...going along quite well for me in fact

RE: Yup the computer wins this round
Hi, If you have the turn (not the replay) send it to MNeer1@woh.rr.com Iwould like to run it on my machine. I once ran a CV versus CV battle that was whacked and it resolved correctly and I just saved the game and sent the turn to the Japanese player and they went on from there.
I'm not retreating, I'm attacking in a different direction!

You have mail.
It would be up to my PBEM buddy to accept a fixed turn. I just want to make sure you guys have the facts you need to fix this

Was this game in v 1.5?
Brand new game started in 1.5. I had the most excellant day one of Pearl Harbor ever...followed it up with 3 more days of battleship sinking there...maybe it was Kharma

RE: Yup the computer wins this round
I just spent about an hour watching the replay, that's right an HOUR. There must be 50 or 60 rounds. CL Boise finally ran our of ammo and retired. Two things happened that I see. Boise never got hit by 14" or 16" shells in the first 9 rounds and none of the smaller stuff got penatration. I noticed that his BBs just kept getting bigger smoke plumes as the rounds continued. I never got a penatrating hit on his BBs at all, I did knock out a few guns.
I remember a post from a while back about ships in long combats seemed to take large amounts of fire damage and finally sank. [&:]
If you guys can change it, that is fine. I am going to suggest to Rob that we redo the turn and maybe the random numbers will come up more normal.
I wnet back and looked, Boise has 36 ammo for 5" and 3" guns, so I guess there were 36 rounds where Boise fired, the last few rounds the BBs fired but Boise didn't.

All I can say is holy freaking crap. It's a good thing this wasn't around in 1916, Jutland would have been fought with cruisers!
I guess the Japanese beat the Hell out of the US TF, then since they didn't do it honorably they scuttled themselves.
That or you guys are using the new M58 Ping pong 6" round. It hits the superstructure, and bounces through every hatch on its way to the magazine. Very crafty.

So is this 1) Bug, 2) extremely bad luck, or 3) The Japanese BB crews cut a huge hole over their magazine spaces.

Hi, On the surface it looks like Tom Foolery. But I am going to check my scenario data files (just in case)

RE: Yup the computer wins this round
lol hell this is like that time when I launched 2 scout planes against the japanese carriers and then watched them sink both of my fully loaded with sbds carriers....

RE: Yup the computer wins this round
Hi, I have not been involved with effects of bombs and gunfire. the 6inMk53 has a pen value of 200 and all the BB in the game except Yamato class have deck values less then 200 I wonder if the game is bombing the ships with 6in/53. Have to see a few more battles I'm going to run a few quick surface battles. Anyone have any examples from a game began with 1.50?

I have always loved the Boise class CLs in UV/WITP. You can do a lot with 15 x 6" quick-firing guns, and all that ammo to boot. However, I would never have believed that a Boise could pound 6 Japanese battleships into scrap. Who sold your guys the depleted uranium ammo?

Perhaps it's simply a problem with the value that determines how much fire damage is caused by the 6/47 Mk 16 gun, as all 3 BB that took over 20 hits ended up sinking. If so my guess is it's embeded in the code, so we should all see similar results with that gun in any surface action. Easy to conform I'd guess, but perhaps hard to fix?

RE: Yup the computer wins this round
I'm sorry...I have to catch my breath here. After I reinserted my eyes back into the sockets, I spent at least 20 minutes rolling on the floor with agonizing laughter. Then I read on into the thread. Then I rolled around some more after I looked at Mog's replay. So now, I think I will have some fun with this. The possible reasons for why this happened...
1) The US has secretly allied itself with the Klingons. There was a squadron of cloaked Birds of Prey overhead.....
2) The US has secretly invented the Deathray and mounted it on the USS Boise...of all things.
3) Rats chewed through the wiring (see Glantz, "Battle of Kursk")
4) The Japanese allowed the US to close the range so that the IJN TF CO could use the clever insults he learned while he was studying international relations at Harvard.
5) The very klutzy Baka brothers just happaned to be serving on every ship in the TF. And as so often happens in slapstick comedy, set off simultaneous magazine explosions on every ship. This promises to be a classic crowd favorite with the commedy lovers for years to come.
6) The captain of the Chiyoda got pissed off at his TF commander and shot the entire TF, execution-style, with his ship's mighty armament.
7) This being the early days of the war (judging by the US TF composition), no one had told the Americans that the Japanese will whoop dey @ss, and that they simply cannot go around doing things like this. By the time someone clued them in, RRob was very upset.
8) Right before the battle, the US TF had its spirits lifted by an amazingly inspirational speech by George W. Bush.
9) Blame the Russians
10) It was all just a baaaaad dream.....
OK, I'm out of ammo, kinda like the Boise.

"17) Non-penetrating bomb hits may now do slightly more fire and system damage, depending on hit location."
Does this apply only to the bombs dropped from the air, or is it for ship guns too?
It looks like all those IJN BBs took too much fire damage, that has later caused flood damage and sinkings
Another question for you who saw this replay: When was the first ship sunk in this battle? Why didn't the rest of it's TF retreat from the battle when that happened?
