Artillery Problem in detailed battle

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

I think the reduction is 80%, so if you did in fact do 20 guys, it would have been 100, or if you did 100 it would have been 500. at times you do get a perfect fresh unit with frontal shoot against a unit flanked and you know, this should be a good one, but ding, just a few. That is called the luck of the dice. I have had other times where my art hit somebody in the rear fresh and nailed them for almost 5000. Seems you cant get more then 5000 cassulties at the moment.

I had a Hv Arty Div, in line, that was had a 10000 man Cav unit stop right in front of it, when it was time to pull the trigger, I got a report of 10000 men killed

in fact, after the shot, there was just a pile of smoke comeing up from the hex that the Cav Div was in

my best shot of my wars !!!!

have seen a few 7-8000 kills also

do you deploy your arty to line ?

Did the whole division just vanish after suffering the 10,000-man slaughter? Did you accomplish any gun-related upgrade?

yes, the Div was totally gone, like I said, just a smoking hex where they had been :)

not sure what level of upgrade I was at, at the time, I do try to upgrade my Arty as soon as I can, so should figure the results as being with upgrades

I have a question… If I have artillery on a hill hex shooting at another unit on a hill hex. Do I still get the 80% reduction.

No, the penalty is only for a downward change of grade. In your example, they would be on the same grade level.

Artillery on a hill still damage the enemy formation and do morale damage

Infantry are more effective from up on a hill (presumably because they ain for individual people), and more flexible since they have improved line of sight.

So I tend to put inf on the hill, and arty on the flats.

Makes sense. But sounds like you need to update your guide then. ;)

Thanks
I was just wondering because sometimes I end up fighting on some very large hills.
