Brady, I've also noticed that LCU's in Kavieng and Rabaul at start are Aus (not ANZAC). If they were ANZAC then PP would be required to withdraw them to PM or Aus. In my mind the way it is now is much more realistic. On the other hand, the LCU that begins in Lae cannot be loaded on a ship for withdrawal to PM because it is ANZAC. This means a trek over the O-S mountains (PP are needed elsewhere at this time). This is not realistic, as politically it would have been just fine to move that unit (to PM or Aus) before it got squashed.

Given the imperfection of the restricted command model I think we just need to rely upon the player to maintain certain aspects of realism.

Treespider,
Anyway, I wish there was an AA upgrade for Java. Just because she was sunk in early 42 doesn't mean she wouldn't get an AA upgrade later in the war if she were to survive that long.

Maybe it's not worth it, or maybe there are no more slots for upgrades. Maybe there's a political reason for no upgrade. I don't know. It's just a suggestion.
It's doubtful that the Royal Navy would have bothered refitting Java with better AA suite or even used the ship beyond limited convoy duty. Java's sister, Sumatra, was eventually laid up in Portsmouth in November 1942. Aside from the fact she was in bad shape when leaving DEI and didn't have a full complement of sailors (only midshipmen), Sumatra was a Dutch-designed ship that would have required extensive overhaul to convert to British standards. Additionally, her range was far too short for long range convoy duties and she would have been limited to Theater operations only. Presumably, Java would have been laid up as well which would have freed up over 400 Dutch sailors for other duties (crew rotation, for instance).

The upgrades to the remaining Dutch cruisers are reflected in the database.

True. Lots of compromises have to be made. I think that the native PNG units start in ANZAC Command to prevent them being removed from PNG and sent elsewhere. Unfortunately that also prevents them being moved from one part of PNG to another by ship as well.

Units that start in Australia Command can be freely moved anywhere, again by design. There are a few small units in Australia itself that start in Australia Command for this very reason.

I think it's a good compromise. The unit in Lae is the only inconvenience, and that says a lot. Pretty good job guys!

Thanks. Will add to the list of database changes. This is going to affect more than just the USMC....

Just checked it.

Added some M3 tanks to the pool.

Started scenario with no tank device in slot 10 of 2nd Marine Div.
Ran one turn and no tanks received.

Restarted scenario with M3 tank added to slot 10 (with 0 num and dis) to match TOE.
Ran one turn and it received 4 tanks.

Michael
PS the editor manual does say that the unit slot and its corresponding TOE slot should be in sync.
Leaving it blank as the Marine Div is, could be a method of creating a "short" division in place of a full division.

I believe some of the units were set up this way intentionally. Before I make any changes I need to hear from the people responsible ...perhaps the Tank Battalion is represnted by a seperate unit, hence the reason the device slots were left empty.

Per Don's post in the USMC tank thread...no change is needed...
Don said:

I used to do this (include the device in the unit with the number set to zero) but I was warned that it was a problem. Also I note the WITPCHK reports it as an error.

If a given slot in a unit is empty but the corresponding slot in the TOE is not empty, the unit will fill from the TOE. There were reports of problems if the device is enterred in the unit with a number of 0.

If the device in the Marine Division is #540, than this is an older version of CHS. It took us (me) a while before we learned that devices numbered above 516 did not properly keep a pool. ALso this is now reported as an error by WITPCHK. Any device with a number higher than 516 will never fill out. This was fixed in CHS1.02 (and maybe earlier).

I have run some tests using CHS 1.02. I set the pool to a large number and set the 1st Marine Division to arrive next to the 2nd as of scenario start. Also made sure San Diego had lots and lots of supply. Both units drew tanks the first day, but only three each (which surprised me).

I think the device being #540 is the problem. It can't be higher than 516.
The older I get, the better I was.

Are all the Liberty's coming from PC or Portland? I think Kaiser built them at Richmond {San Francisco bay area} and Portland or Seattle {cannot remember which}.

Ignore me if you left the one built at Richmond remaining as arriving SF.

Great Work....though it looks like I'll have the joy of another restart...hopefully soon?

Not all liberties are coming from PC or Portland I would estimate c300 are still arriving at SF. I just listed the ships that were changed to Portland or the PC.

And yes it will be very soon...I just need to upload the Data for the DD's and DE's...A couple of other people have volunteered to do some quick research on APD's, DM's etc. hopefully I will have their results by this weekend. I plan on having this packaged and sent to Andrew either this weekend or early next week...then i plan on actually playing it.

As a huge favor all of you who have downloaded v1.05 please look at it hard and in detail to see if you can spot anymore obvious albeit hidden errors like the missing Auckland shipyard.

Oh and the Victory shipd are completed and posted above...

Treespider,

I am NOT familiar with earlier versions of CHS, so for all I know this might be intentional: In the standard scen 15 Sorong produces oil. In CHS 1.05 it does not produce oil.

That is intentional. There was no oil production at Sorong until after the war.
