RE: Rob Vs Miller .. allied perspective NIK MOD 4.2

Post by Rob Brennan UK »

OK 7th and 8th Dec concluded .. oddly enough the firsy shot was by SS-39 60 miles south of lingayan. hit an AP too ! .. no casulaties reported so i think its a dud.

main attack was Pearl Harbour .. after 2 days nowt sunk but battleship row is looking like a scrapyard no BB escaped damage and the best is 50/20/0 Arizona oddly enough. Heavy a/c damage especially P40B's manill also hit hard but the bombers again got little damage. they are being flown to singapore.

hong kong was assaulted but withstod the attack .. however i forgot to move the DD's (DOH) who usually evac part of the base force .. maybe tomorrow. Many many landings in PI .. not least jolo and davao invaded .. plenty of smaller bases too . main attacks vs the usual 2 north bases . all PI troops sent back to manilla/clarke as lamon bay was hit before i could do much about it . basically neutering naga as a defensive position.

I'll try and get some screen shots tomorrow .. however it not looking too bad for tha allies after day1 . espacially the jap invasion of brunei ! mistake imo .. when it falls all dutch bombers will be sent on oil destruction !

no apparent blockade of manilla has left me running with most of the ships there . although the 4 DD's have been sent to interdict a nearby landing.

Well thats fast and very late for me .. more coherant details tomorrow ..
sorry for the spelling . English is my main language , I just can't type . and i'm too lazy to edit :)

Shame you weren't so sharp with your Carriers [;)]

Canton is. is my love/hate friend/nemsis. kind of fixate on the place. I HATE losing it

I can confirm this, he was even prepared to sacrifice 4 Allied Carriers to regain it!

Thanks JOE ! NOT [:D]

Maybe i need to chill out about Canton a bit.

Anyway, its a more sensible time of day now , so more detail on the events of the 9th and 10th.

Can't seem to get the print screen button working, or just cant find the images, one or 'tother.

Well the 9th started out well, with another succesful allied sub attack ( most unusual)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sub attack near Wake Island at 82,63

Japanese Ships
AP Kinryu Maru, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage

Allied Ships
SS Tambor

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

She later sank 60 miles south of Wake.

However that same evening the CA houston blundered into the landings at Jolo on her way back to Java. all i can say is oops. she got horribly suprised and torps hit before she even responded.

Dutch subs tried to interdict the landings at Davao, however they both missed. Worth a try though.

The usual gamut of jap air raids followed , Clarke etc. not much out of the ordinatry happened here. However come the afternoon american observers were again suprised to see swarms of japanese bombers heading back to PH for a 3rd strike ! .. i was not expecting this at all

No sinkings yet , but some BB's are loking decidedly dodgy. As you can see AA was pitiful at KO'ing the attackers but many were damaged. lets hope they crash on the trip back B******s.

Around Malaya teh RAF sent in some piece meal attacks agains the battleships guarding the transports at Khota Baru, needless to say they all missed and several were downed by flak. Not a good day.

Japanese bombers hit back at Alor star airfield but didnt achieve much.

The only high point of the ground combat was another spirited defence at Wake, Further japanese had landed in the form of a naval guard unit. however that sub attack must have done more damage than i thought as the japs bounced again ! Huzzah

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Wake Island

Japanese Shock attack

Defending force 1897 troops, 39 guns, 2 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese ground losses:
350 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Japanese did not attack on the 10th so i think thats all he's brought along for this party. I may shock attack him back tomorrow.

Other than that .. several key bases fell . Hong kong with the DD's still moored ! (bah .. note to self do not do turns at 1am ). Legaspi , Jolo , Guam , miri , cagayan , aparri, vigan , oddly brunei held out for a day , she fell on the 10th. San jose , jesselton , puerto princessa, lamon bay and unbelieveably Khota baru !

ttacking force 15238 troops, 250 guns, 16 vehicles

Defending force 7192 troops, 46 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese engineers reduce fortifications to 3

Japanese assault odds: 6 to 1 (fort level 3)

Allied aircraft losses
Hudson I: 4 destroyed Parent unit in singapore

Japanese ground losses:

Allied ground losses:

Now that was a fast capitulation ! .. defenders heading down to kuantan. Hope they can get back to singers . but disruption is very bad.

Also to fall was cagayan .. along with 6 b17s that i hadnt ben able to move out as they were damaged

So with a heavy heart, the 10th arrived and i was a bit bleak after the 9th .. 4 DD's sunk for no return.

However my surface combat group meant to hit the jolo landings arrived in a blake of gunfire ! . japanese gunfire mind you as my T was crossed and 8 inch shells slammed in the DeReuter. Most suprisingly was the dutch DD's who ralled rapidly and sank one jap DD and heavity damaged the CA blowing off half its main battery and several secondary mounts. The mod must have included the revised jap CA turret armour down to 25mm from 150mm .. makes DD's a lot more useful against them.

t Time Surface Combat, near Jolo at 38,59

DD Banckert
DD Witte de With, Shell hits 1
DD Kortenaer, Torpedo hits 1, on fire
DD Piet Hein

Chokai is burning from stem to stern . hopefully she will sink before reaching port. so i can have revenge for the Houston.

I placed an agressive admiral in charge of this group and it showed as the allies hit the main landing force. unfortunately too late for the defenders but i suspect that he has very little supply here right now. This will hopefully hamper his attempts to operate nells from here in the near future.

I can happily live with this ! .. remaining ships heading back to Balikpapan apart from the badly damaged De Reuter 67/57/10 still 4 hexes from tarakan with auto disband orders. the DD Kortnaer is 120 miles from tarakan and at 49/41/15. she should make it back and will be pumped out and sent down to Oz for repairs.

Then after feeling a bit better , the damn japs came back over Pearl Harbour :_

Tenesee finally sank at her moorings and the rest are very very badly danaged. the Pensylvania is at 99/86/0 .. doubt she'll survive. the least damaged is again the arizona on 57/48/0 .. still very heavily damaged.

Although every a/c on KB must be patching up holes my now . please not another strike. The allied CV's heading down to Pago are intact and the saratoga has left american and will rendezvous. the all 3 will head to noumea as i have decided to try and use them to interfere in the coral sea or maybe even send them under australia to Perth, where they will almost certainly be hidden from japanese eyes. then strike at any Timor attack groups. must get some AO's there too as its a bit of a long haul for them. I will also try and get some DEI fuel to northern Oz.

The first supply convoy left america today loaded with oil for the australian economy. heading in a round about fashion to Sydney.

The RAF managed a hit on a transport too !

Now i have 12 B17s at singers they can just reach Miri oil fields . i looks like hes moven in a/c already but i suspect nates which wont even dent b17's . it is at extreme range though. fingers crossed. Both Miri and brunei oil fields are almost intact unfortunately.

He's also spotted my forward torpedo bomber base at georgetown as he inadventantly killed on on the ground. the swordfish have been transferred to kuantan so the BB's are in range tomorrow [;)]

Come the end a very bizarre japanese shock attack one hex NW of canton

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at 43,40

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 12393 troops, 152 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 59144 troops, 384 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
2457 casualties reported
Guns lost 38

Allied ground losses:
2 casualties reported

Not complaining mind .. just have no idea why this shock attacked ?/ maybe to stop me from coming on to canton , which i was planning on doing before HK fell. its too tough now.

anway .. not much planned for tomorrow. just some housekeeping in java and picking up some out lying dutch units for duty elsewhere, namely Palembang and Timor.

Also loaded up are about 30 transports and tankers from bombay and karachi .. heading toward perth but i may well divery a few to north australia one past java. also the RN has decided to move down to Java em masse . first stop west of the java/sumatra gap then head into Batavia. the slow Brit BB may be of some use down here later on.

Well that about concludes todays update .. phew too ages , also a shame no spell checker in this message facility [;)][;)]

Back again for the latest update.

KB is still lurking round PH , although today it headed to the south of hawaii and clobbered an unfortunate ASW group , killing 5 DD's ouch. Thst was really bad timing on my part to tell the truth. PT boats are sortieing again to see if i can get a nice night engagement. fingers crossed.

The entire mashalls is no japanese but canton has been sent the 2nd US para batallion and some CD and AA from the states . no 27th div yet as it hasnt arrived ( +-15 day schedule hurting here badly). however the CV's have arrived at pago and canton respectively and will re-fuel , then provide protection for as long as i know where KB is situated. hopefully this will give me time to re-inforce.

Elsewhere the CL Perth has arrived at Rabaul so japan cant grab the place with a cheap invasion run.

The ships fleeing the PI are now trapped .. nells and betties sortied from lingayan today and mini KB is lurking to the east of sulawesi. poor sods are dying like flys.

Well the DD kortaener arrived safely in borneo but the DeReuter expecting a heros welcome was caught by 3 jap CA's in daylight and blown out of the water with the first hit ! .. flipping ammo explosion from the first shell doomed the battered dutch vessel.
TIV's retaliated but missed unfortunately.

The B17 raid on miri oil fields was a disater .. 13 flew 11 came back and they missed completely. oscars shot down 2 and damaged all the rest.Bad weather closed down malaya but a dutch SS hit a loaded troops transport heading to khota baru and the only brit bomber flight caught another loaded ship with 2 presents .. more loss of life was reported. good news as i suspect its a base force.

Inf have arrived at moulmein to man the forward burma defence. and the base force from tavoy ordered to join up. never noticed this is a size 4 AF too . humm may well do an early strategic bombing offensive shortly. At the least it will stretch the jap fighters a bit.

In China victory for the troops outside canton sent a mxed brigade scurrying back. also hes abandoned the 2 small cities to the west. nanning + one more. i've moved in and will capture nanning tomorrow. Doubt i will gassison heavily as its pretty cut off. maybe just leave a div to keep him honest. Actually ill split a corps between the 2. also seem to have trapped a jap div to the west of canton in the middle of nowhere. and with teh fall of nanning etc he will be without supply :) .. nice. maybe more traning for the chinese army.

other than all that pretty quiet. and YES in niks mod oscars are dangerous ( as they should be imo) ..

bye

Nexy 2 days were relatively peacful .. il start posting game dates from now on btw . can be confusing. the only major jap move was the invasion of k??? in northern borneo. i had plenty of warning however and the a/f has ben moved back before disaster strikes.

even more AA kills ! great .. beats 2-3 of each i was getting . there must be a lot of needy KB bomber units by now. i'd set the a/c at PH for no replacements at game start .. just as well too . last turn i set it back or patrol a/c and level bombers. the P40's especially are better off elsewhere.

the Brit torp bomber ambush finally attacked .. 2 sinkings is good but i wanted to hit the BB;s ..

Nice AA kills at Pearl [:D]... I would assume he is now retiring since I think he has accomplished pretty much all he can there.

What is your strategy at China... Fighting retreat, Offensive style or passive?

By the looks of things heavy action can be expected with this AAR [:D]

Good luck as always...!

Yes he appears to be withdrawing west , but im not sortieing nowt untill im sure. several subs move north just to see if he swings back round but i doubt it.

Slowly getting the general house clearing done like building bases and setting reinforcements. Indias turn today. the large coastal towns and cities will be expanded from the start and as more engineers arrive. 2-3 inland strongpoints will be created. no additonal troops to go to burma. The defence there is a blocking force at moulmein. 2 inf units an HQ and 2 base forces. operating are the night bombers set to attack bangkok airfields and some blenheims targetting the lone japanese unit thet moved into tavoy today. Rangoon CD unit shipping out to the andaman is. and 2 small dutch units from the west of sumatra are loaded and sailing there too. The 2 inf units in rangoon will remain and try and build up/rest in a non malarial area. also prevents para dropping to my rear. The rest of the burma army is heading to mandalay as the main defensive position. AVG hasnt moved yet. Its a valuable resource that i don't want to waste. Very little air action in china and singapore isnt under attack.

You asked about china. humm well he's abandoned nanning and the coastal city too. Chinese troops captured nanning today. Ive split a corps to cover both cities and place one fragment on the border with vietnam as lookout. remaining corps and both HQ's are heading to cut off the trapped jap division ( i think ) west of wuchow. actually the more i consider it. its probably the HQ unit from the coastal city. lets attack it and see [:D]. 6 chinese corps in the woods south of wuchow as a buffer and helps cut the rail to canton. the central cities do not seem to be under threat as of yet. but im sure they will. several cavalry corps guarding the river north of H??? .. i always forget chinese city names . the one 2 hexes to the right of changsha. all the troops in the open have been withdrawn back to where they are prepped for. but with niks mod all chinese cities start at level 9 forts ! .. didnt realise before. this is good news but imo its critical as you save a lot of supply not having to build up. Yenen is being approached and japanese are spotted NE of homan over the river. no-ides why hes there. spying probably. Anyway I plan on being defensive in china right now. unless some juicy opening happens along.

PI .. loks like all the troops will make it back to clarke ok. the PI a/f is still evacuationg to wuchow and singapore. The large P40 unit in manilla is however harassing shipping and will continue to do so untill pp's allow a withdrawl. not a priority as i want to save as mutch dutch as i can for timor.

Several dutch air attacks today on a light jap surface force south of bornea. lots of torp bomber attacks and no hits at all ! .. ordered to rest. the other tIV unit moved into balikpapan and the main allied surface forces heading there too inc. POW and repulse. Baby KB is still a threat east of sulawesi and most ships fleeing manilla are either safe or sunk. s-40 today conducted 2 succesful torp attacks on empty jap ap's and that great. she will return to manilla to re-arm ( i left one AS here for the S boats to operate from) . the faster and bigger american boats arrived at singapore and 6 are tasked to move to georgetown if i have to start evacuating there and alor star. That said a japanese shock attack at alor resulted in 1600 jap dead for about 100 brits. stopped that division cold. he's going to use khota baru as a main airbase i suspect. but its a long slog to walk west so i'll not be cut off for some time. Also sighted and unsucessfully attacked was what looks like an invasion fleet for kuantan. moved the swordfish away from bombardments back to singapore. As an aside these havnt operated at all well . the weather is definately picking on the brit torpedo planes as the wildebeast have done all of 1 decent attack. The 2 tankers with oil for singers were sunk 60 miles from target . but a larger and better escorted convoy will soon leave palambang for here. also set up is a supply run to bataan and singers from java. fingers crossed.

In sumatra i'll try and max out engineers for palambang. not much else to do here.

Java . being organised . kragen point has inf and engineers to disallow any solf landings and the forts are slowly building. Soerbaja is also set to build forts and also port to a 9 so i can operate the mine layers from here.

australa slumbers on . well not quite . some SW pac units prepping for timor and the aussie 13th brigade is to march from perth to derby whilst prepping for koepang.

S.pacific both US Cv's now at pago and used up the fuel there .. im toying with going for fair into the marshalls as i know where his carriers are right now. may dissuade any attacks on baker is and canton.

PH is a right old mess .. one P40 unit was down to 2 planes so i disbanded it .. maybe in 90 days i'll have some in the pool, bat right now i have better units that need filling.

Oddly enough very low on AV support on the US west coast. had to move the base force from central usa to sandiego so i can move out the SW pacific BF from here.

thats all right now .. i have a feeing we may see some surface action around s borneo soon !

HUMM .. thats the entirity of lark force who were off to luganvilla .. not any more, just a few survivors on base and that wont stop the japanese invaders now. really bad timing. the CL Adelaide in port got 2 hits and is at 20sys damage. no way can she compete with 2 BB's .. ordered to try and escape.

The RAF in malaysia had a good day of sorts .. expamle

Several more attacks had similar returns but the Nate perfomed well as CAP vs the old tubbies . cant really hurt bombers but i have yet to shoot one down . how embarassing !

The Imperial guard unloaded over the beach at kuantan .. so burma is safe :) .. unfotunately malasia isnt . the bitty evac of crucial units began today and will continue untill the eventual fall. When kuantan falls i'll have to pull back from the north to Johore baru as the second line of defence.A bit galling really as alor star is doing well.

YAY swordfish work ! officailly

AP Kyokusei Maru, Bomb hits 1
AP Kurohime Maru, Torpedo hits 1

I was saying last post about the P40's in manilla .. well today they ran into zeros everywhere .. fortunately few losses as thier morale was bad to begin with. just enough pp's to change over and they will be sent to india to re-build.

Naga fell on the ev of the 17th. nothing there as lamon bay had flanked any point in defending it. full jap division was seen entering the city. (16th)

Calarke field was hit hard both days and probaly wont be able to increase forts as the engineers have decided to clear the runways for the planes i dont have there [:@]

Also my evacuated ships heading toward pearl (previously unspotted) were givena rude awakening when kates flew from saipan and massacared them ! .. wasnt expecting this either .. Ken is good imo.

Still clearing Wake slowly. and a small supply tf loading at PH to help out as supplies are low. also the SS argonaut will drop off some mines here too.

Well thats all for now .. lordy this is a bloody month and it's mostly my blood !

Nice... I mean this Mod included level 9 forts for the Chinese citites!!! [:)] That will give your opponent a lot of headaches [;)]

I would assume that it is best to wait to see what he is up to in China and react accordingly.

Ouch... He did strike lucky in Rabaul... [:(]

You got your supply lines established yet?

Good luck... and keep scoring those hits on AK/AP's... [:)]

No supply line established this early . some heading to the south pacific and a biggie going to PH. the 3 CV's are now in the canton/pago area and need fuel badly. TK's are on the way along with supply. Ive cleaned out canton/pago/and suva fuel wise. It takes an age to get a good supply base to australia up and running. Fortunately the 27th div arrived today and started prepping for canton defence. I deliberately kept back some AP's for transport duty and sent AKs ahead with supply. No sign of jap subs in the supply lanes yet, but i have only just moved catalinas to johnson/palmyra and canton/pago. they were too useful spotting and occasionally hitting jap subs round PH earlier on . also they were very very depleted.

There's a jap t/f lurking about 8 hexes south of midway. i 'think' is still KB lurking. small resupply AK to wake will find out one way or another.

Main action was in malaya, where alor star held (just) lost 2 fort levels. nut kuantan fell to the imperial guards. North malaya now has to be evacuated before getting cut off. thank god for the railway on this side. A stand will be taken at johore baru as OIL has just arrived in singapore . also supply is very close. the annoying S-121 that sank the previous tanker was sunk in return after attacking an escorting MSW. so if memory serves and it all gets there. c15000 oil and 10000 supply should help a LOT. with the much reduced transport loads you cant lug millions of supplies around willy nilly. Well Karachi can and did send out 3 BIG convorys . 2 to australia and one to colombo.

In burma i have been flanked at moulmein . jap unit appeared behind me ! lack of recon hurts. also my fault not using the w key to check hex ownership. ill try and break out .. fingers crossed. then its back to mandalay (again). The P26's from the PI now in india along with the P40E + P40B units from clarke. Was going to allow replacemnts but ill upgrade the P40B unit first to E's so i have replacements form the AVG who i prefer flying the B's due to range. alse set a wee suprise in wuchow if his dive bombers come back.

Well that about sums up the case so far.

What are peoples opinion on sumatra/java and defending timor ? In timor i have the 2 small units in darwin prepping for lautern and dili to stop soft landings. also some island dutch base units heading to koepang. I have a big surface force in S Bornea and a smaller surface group at kendari.13th aussie brigade marching up to derby from perth and prepping for Koepang as it moves. will need PP's to change HQ though. also navally the hermes and the slow R CLass BB with CA and CL escorts now in batavia . PT boats in S borneo and palambang. Is this a decent set up ?

Regards

Rob

P.s yes im waiting in china .. sent out a recee party from homan to see whats lurking. also going to baombard that cut off jap unit near wuchow. He is advancing on yenen .. no suprise there. i also change all the yenen commanders to the BEST the chinese have. in 2 previous games this has made yenen really tough.

curious as to why your sending oil to signapore...doesn't signapore start with some 150,000 units......wouldn't it be better sent to NW australia??

I think singapore starts with no oil imo [&:]. and the HI with oil helps a lot with local supply until the japs move into the hex. are you thinking of fuel ?

Nice to hear from you again mr donovan :) .. wish i'd kept shtum about kens play style. even with reduced shipping he's all over the shop and then some !!! 6 day attack on pearl .. unheard of imo. would have been 8 except for some bad weather ! blimey i am facing fanatical japanese here.

3rd BB lost at pearl too .. arizona settled slowly so that 3 BB's. frankly i got off well imo. most CL+CA units moderately damaged too. the nevada at 87/0/0 is my least damaged BB !! The others are at 90+ sys with 2 at 98+99 ! ML Olgalga escaped unharmed though.. we depart from history a bit here . she's a damn useful ship if a bit slow.

LOL Donovan i didnt for quite some time too. I hope it will aid the defence in a major way. Of course if it falls quickly he gets free oil [:@].. however theres 20k there now. and the boys are gathering at Johore baru . all bar 1 inf brigade.

22nd and 23rd.

Fairly quiet. However the RAF From singapore are getting good finally . several troop transports hit hard

Day Air attack on TF, near Kuantan at 24,47

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 10

Allied aircraft
Swordfish x 8
Wirraway x 4
Buffalo I x 25
Blenheim I x 6
Blenheim IV x 3
Hudson I x 3
B-17C Fortress x 9

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 1 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
Swordfish: 3 damaged
Buffalo I: 4 destroyed, 1 damaged

Japanese Ships
AP Ayatosan Maru, Bomb hits 2, on fire
CL Isuzu
AP Kaika Maru, Bomb hits 1, on fire
DD Kiji
AP Haguro Maru, Bomb hits 1, on fire Later hit by a dutch torp .. may sink soon
AP Izan Maru, Bomb hits 1
AP Fusemi Maru

The Zeros are a killer this early on.. 24 AVG P40s moved to singers to help.

The indian brigades escaped Alor Star just in time . jap attack on the 22nd reduced forts again, by the 23rd only one indian brigade was left (the other had moved out) suprisingly it held ( must be because it had 60+ preperation for the place. Will go next turn though as the defenders have moved out heading to singapore.

Throughout the DEI various tk's and AK are hauling fuel/supply and oil away from bases before they become too vulnerable. even Northern new guinea is getting plundered.

Political points are never enough, i really want to move out the dakotas in america but the DEI is the priority.

In the PI i still hold and garisson Bataan/clarke/manilla and san marcelano ( base N of CLarke) the river here i am hoping will be a real pain for him. I'm not looking forward to Manilla getting besiaged as i'll be stuck as soon as he moves into clarke. im toying with moving the engineers to bataan ..

In china , that cut off unit is a base force .. ATTACK ! ! ! .. he tried to open up an escape route hew south of wuchow .. oops

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at 43,40

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 40617 troops, 553 guns, 6 vehicles

Defending force 61843 troops, 396 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
2568 casualties reported
Guns lost 65
Vehicles lost 2

Allied ground losses:
233 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

Now i do like that ! .. the reccee party from homan discover only one small unit it ?? the next city. He's definately building up at yenen in the north but i believe im as defensible as i can. Supply in china is over all Awful .. bombers moved out to india for training and 1/3 avg moved to chungking as the I16's are getting killed by Nates ! .. damn this mod even makes them useful. lets see how they operate aginst modern aircraft.

Rabaul still holds 0-1 attack (fort3 ) about 100 dead each side. I think you need South seas detachment to do this properly. Although without lark force i was expecting it to fall. decisions decisons .. Defend Timor or PM with the australian units .. i'm tempted to try Timor as i have never held it before. With lots of supply heading to the N.australian coast i will have a limited supply base at least. Perth is also soon to be crammed with supply and fuel from india.

In america the 27th division is loading for Canton Is.

Thats it for today ..

24th and 25th Dec 1941

The night of the 23/24th saw japanese landing at Wake is. The south seas detachment had arrived. and the mess resolved in japanese favour . however the landings werent free.

AP Heiwa Maru
DD Wakatake

Japanese ground losses:
276 casualties reported
Guns lost 4

Allied ground losses:
4 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

The mines laid by argonaut clamied 2 PC's and hit a troop transport too ! the PC's sank during the day

South of singapore the MSW group found another japanese sub

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sub attack at 23,51

Japanese Ships
SS I-122, hits 4, on fire, heavy damage

Allied Ships
MSW Toowoomba, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
MSW Ballarat
MSW Burnie
MSW Goulburn
MSW Maryborough

I seem to be swopping one MSW for one Sub .. an exchange i am happy with. this has cleared the approaches to singapore for now. although i suspect more are on the way.

The dutch subs were active between saigon and malaysia

Japanese Ships
AP Fukko Maru, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
MSW W.6
MSW W.5
MSW W.4
PC Shonan Maru #7
PG Sozan Maru

Allied Ships
SS KXII

Japanese ground losses:
31 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Wake finally fell !

Ground combat at Wake Island

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 5776 troops, 77 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 2322 troops, 53 guns, 5 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 12 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese forces CAPTURE Wake Island base !!!

Japanese ground losses:
230 casualties reported
Guns lost 10

Allied ground losses:
1199 casualties reported
Guns lost 51
Vehicles lost 1

Although the overall cost was a lot more than i expected. every jap dead is good news.

The cut off jap base force was evicted and retreated into neutral terrain close to japanese help canton. Basically its escaped but will be a bit battered.

Ground combat at 30,34

Allied Shock attack

Attacking force 5002 troops, 60 guns, 4 vehicles

Defending force 3004 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles

Allied assault odds: 6 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
125 casualties reported

Allied ground losses:
16 casualties reported

Defeated Japanese Units Retreating!

Mainly though this cleans out Western china completely. I am suprised he ran from nanning as china has a real problem taking the place, especially as the area is very supply short.

The 24th started with another dutch sub hitting another full troop transport !

Sub attack at 26,47

Japanese Ships
AP Sanura Maru, Torpedo hits 1, on fire
MSW W.6
MSW W.5
MSW W.4
PC Shonan Maru #7
PG Sozan Maru

Allied Ships
SS O16, hits 1, on fire

Japanese ground losses:
25 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

The O16 is heading to singapore and isnt too badly damaged.

IF either of the troop ships sink at sea it will be a great victory for the allies ! ..

The japs have a huge Minesweeper group thats flitting round cleaning up my sub laid minefields. today it cleaned out a base in N borneo .. but was in range of some dutch level bombers .. 2 Msw were hit , one sunk immediately , the other i suspect will succumb too. great news .

Rabaul has held ! .. the japs reverted back to artillery attacks . I do find as japan you need the south seas detachment to guarantee Rabauls fall. With lark force gutted on board a transport i'm suprised the place held. But with the South seas detachment in Wake, Rabaul may well hold out till more troops arrive from japan. it also ties up all the smaller NLF which otherwise would be taking the empty bases on New guinea and in the coral sea/solomons.

The evacuation from N malaya is in full swing and easily outrunning the persuing japanese. Units will recover in singapore while perparing for a do or die defence. The longer singapore holds the better for the rest of the DEI. No japanese activity noticed around sulawesi or S borneo which i suspect will be his next target. The surface forces are awaiting .. However if he's waiting for KB to come back i have no choice but to run away ! .. timor is getting supply and a weak defence so far but it looks like i may have time to really fortify the place. Its my priortty for the DEI and australia commands.

wish me luck .. ill do a full list of sunk units tomorrow ..

p.s how can i do screen shots ? ( print screen button does nothing that i can find )

hit "print screen" button

then open Paint and hit CNTRL C

By the looks of it your opponent is placing Iboats in shallow hexes. Dangerous... even in this mod.

Hey someone is reading this !!!!!

Thanks NIK ill give it a whirl .

Yeah big slow tubs in shallow hexes .. not seen the nells and betties for quite some time now. must be getting rained out regularly. as i have several small tranport groups rapeing the DEI for fuel etc.

I have noticed that oscars are due some respect in this mod.(as they should be ) thier gun accuracy is phenominal. Even Nates can beat the inexperienced chinese. not had an encounter between AVG and nates yet.

And B17C's suck in A2A combat .. downed by oscars .. live and learn.

well of course i'm reading! always interested in seeing the mod in action and to see the different strategies employed by the players. [:D]

Iboats love the deep water.....they will do much better there. Even the Allied boats have to watch their step in the shallows. Speedy in particular loves his All Peons Dept ASW TF's (APD's)

B-17's....oh they have their uses. I'm giving Bombur coniptions by bombing his newly ill gotten gains with em (resources and oil)

havn't lost one yet to A2A in my game with Speedy.

I had 14 aimed at admittedly long range vs miri ?? ( next to brunei) oil facilities.

lost the combat report but it was

2 destroyed
11 damaged

no oscars damaged and no hits .. alt 11k

they might have been a bit fatigued though. all the same i LIKE the fact that they got countered by KI-43's [:D][:D]
