Indeed, the whole concept of a mobile carrier striking force seems silly. It is too unreliable, weak and subject to weather, like todays action (or rather lack of action) proved near Manila.

Force E had been given the objective to move close to Manila bay and launch strikes at the port there, but bad weather and rough seas prevented any planes from taking off. It is clear that the carrier is useless as an offensive weapon and is at best a costly scout ship.

The admirality has issued a direction that no new large carrier hulls should be laid down, and a study into the possibility of mounting scout aircraft on to battleships should be launched. If that whould be possible then the useless concept of an aircraft carrier could be eliminated alltogether.

Today saw the sinking of two ships by submarines. First was battleship Katori by L-52 and second was HMS Carysfort, a light cruiser, by a japanese boat believed to be SS No. 14. The japanese sub was heavily damaged or sunk by depth charges dropped by HMS Vanity, a 'V' class destroyer.

A well deserved rest for the combat reporter as there has been so much
action your fingers must be blistered...[:D]

Very nice AAR String, seems like you're handling this very well so I'll offer my advice to the Japs instead [;)]

Today the Royal Navy again demonstrated that picking a fight with England is not a good idea. The pride of the fleet, HMS Hood, along with HMS Repulse and HMS Renown swept into Lingayen harbor during the afternoon, sank two minelayers there and bombarded the port, leaving it in flames as they left the area without suffering a scratch.

Quite good, atleast three japanese BB's there, whilst the largest ships the RN has lost are four CL's. I'll try and post some screenies of it when I process the next turn..

In a disturbing incident today, HMS Resolution was torpedoed by an unknown submarine, most likely a japanese one. She was damaged enough to force her retirement from the rest of the Force G which was patrolling the south china sea.

Night naval battle at Taytay!!!

Recently a joint naval operation by the Royal Sovereign class battleships of Force G under VADM Jellicoe and the French and Dutch colonial fleets under CPT Guilliaume Lamothe, was undertaken. The objective was the reduction of suspected enemy light cruiser squadrons at Taytay and the bombardment of the port there.

The plan was for the Force G battleships to engage and sink the light cruisers while the dutch and french fleets, along with monitors Terror and Erebus would bombard the port.

Sadly, due to a misunderstanding, the combined colonial fleets arrived about eight hours before Force G, and neared Taytay at night and were engaged by the japanese forces there. The result was a series of confused and undecisive battles in which both sides suffered minor losses.

Image

While numerous, both sides had problems with gunfire accuracy and no serious damage was inflicted

Image

Still, some destroyers were damaged on both sides, most notable was the crippling of DD Umikaze by the montior HMS Terror

Image

One of the final engagements was the attack of a japanese destroyer flotilla on our fleet. The result was a torpedo hit on BB De Zeven Provincien and a japanese destroyer sunk with another heavily damaged.

Due to these miscalculations the bombardment of Taytay could not be executed so the fleet withdrew, Force G, was instructed to proceed though.

Day time naval battle at Taytay!!!

Force G steaming towards Taytay, picture taken from the stern of HMS Royal Oak.

The battleships of Force G sighted enemy ships at 1147 and quickly closed on them, opening fire at 1153

Image

HMS Royal Sovereign firing a full broadside at enemy cruiser Kuma.

Our ships faced 7 brand new light cruisers and 3 destroyers, and the Royal Navy proved its superiority once again. 3 enemy cruisers were heavily damaged and all destroyers sunk. Sadly, our own escorting destroyers, HMS Truculent and HMS Toreador were both hit hard and HMS Truculent sank before sunset.

Hmh, forgot to take the screenies, but the japs have lost

1 dreadnought (BB Kaga, one of their best), 4 pre-dreadnoughts, 2 CA's, 2 CL's

We have lost 4-5 CL's, one of them CL Glorious with 15" guns.

quite a few destroyers on both sides, japs about twice we have.

For the first time in history, airplanes launched from carriers achieve hits on enemy ships.
In a daring raid vs Takao port the airplanes from CV Argus managed to put a torpedo into AK Kaimei Maru and TK Nissyo Maru.

Meanwhile, Force F has been disbanded. Battlecruisers HMS Tiger, HMS Lion and HMS Princess Royal will join the fast battlecruisers of Force J, while HMS New Zealand, HMS Australia and HMS Indomitable will join Force G.

Not a very good day. Our battlecruisers swept waters around formosa and chanced upon some old enemy pre-dreadnoughts. The result was two enemy pre-dreadnoughts damaged and one destroyer sunk (several others damaged) vs HMS Hood and HMS Repulse damaged enough to keep them out of combat for some time.

NOT a satisfactory result
