In Billys email to me he said something to the effect of:

Oh i see subs in my waters around PH.

:) thats good becuase my subs in 2 days have spotted no ships in port and no ships in the harbor. Now this turn my Battle fleets will start bombardment. I will have 3 divisions landing tomorrow with another 5 landing within 3 days.

In 2 days i will have a few regiments on Johnston. A few regiments on Palmyra
and a full division on Midway. I will come back to wake after the fact.

I have 2 CD units and countless engineering units enroute to the PH area. They will be used to rebuild and fortify.

I have 400k fuel ready to offload at PH, johnston and palmyra to refuel my fleet. Along with a few hundred thousand supplies to rearm.

I had such a evil laugh when he said that he saw my sub.
Perhaps he's setting a trap for me waiting for me to start my landing perhaps.

A few days ago i had a fleet bombard wake to make him think i would be coming to wake first. I doubt he's bb's are steaming at a full clip and hopefully they are still afew days away. I'm thinking i only need 4-5 days to get all my troops on the ground and get my fleets to the safety of johnston island. Once my troops are on the ground he wont stop me.
I'm landing enough supplies there to be set for months.
I also loaded up 8 squadrons of fighters and bombers and Torp planes to put off at PH.
When he comes to retake PH he will have to contend with the masses of my planes.

Figured i would post the combat report this time. I don't think this turn could have gone any better then planned. We took i think 7 ships hit by mines and lost 3 already but i have anticipated high loses from the minefields. This turn bombardments started at Wake, Johnston and PH all at once. Perfect coordination between the imperial fleet.
By the end of the turn we have 18,000 men on the ground from 3 divisions and a base force. Though they suffered incredibly high disablements there are another few divisions to make it to PH and offload in the next turn or two. And plenty of supply this is no race i have not begun attacks yet. I want to wait for disruption and fatigue to drop some. Weirdly enough the troops did not shock attack when they got off the boats. Isn't PH an atol? Or is this different between WITP & WPO. All for the better though a shock attack out right would have slowed the process down. I have a sub screen out several hexes to the east of PH and i pick up no fleet i guess he pulled it back to the west coast. I'm still ancy though he could be waiting to pounce on me with those 12 battleships and if that was the case it would probably squash the invasion before it could get enough troops on the ground to defeat him.

Nice one, bw. And no, PH isn't an atoll. Atolls are coral, and the Hawai'i Islands are volcanic.

Ground Combat howto

Post by bwheatley »

Maybe someone can give me a howto on combat. How long should i wait to begin ground combat? Until DIS & Fat are under 20?
I know how i've always done it but i'm curious on what the general opinion is about it.

I don't go by a hard and fast rule on how low Dis/Fat must go. It's more of a gut feeling, based on the relative strengths of my troops and the enemy's, levels of fortification, etc. You probably won't go far wrong playing it the WitP way, but remember that your troops are more fragile in WPO (less machines, more meat, less artillery firepower).

+1 to not landing on an ATOLL lol. I will give it a few days then. I don't want to to wear my troops out and as long as i can land the bulk of my troops time is my friend. By this turn billy will realize whats going on and even if he has saved every PP since start he should not have enough PP 980+ to move the marine bde which is only 200 something AP and shouldnt be enough to stop this. The only way i can see him stopping this is if his 12 BB's are somewhere close by to knock out my invasion this coming turn. After that i'll have most of what i need on the ground and then it is just a matter of time to take PH out. I have 2 bdes enroute to lahaina so i can make sure i take his biggest port and then hopefully take all the islands and forty them. I figure with the crappy plans i'm landing their they have a range of 2 so they can perhaps be used to help take out any incoming ships.

well i am only doing this because in my game with pzb which is a 26-30 i have jack to stop him from invading. So in the 22-26 game i was playing as US aganist the japs and i know us has nothing. So it's really just a calculated risk and praying his fleet isnt here.

New turn back :)

more to come

today will be a busy day for our game.

Well we lost another couple ships. But now we have 1200AP on the ground and the troops have been ordered to shock attack. I have the 3rd 1st 8th 11th 17th and imperial guard divisons on the ground. THe 2nd division will be landing tomorrow. ALso the 15th base force & 10th IJA base force are on the ground. Troops are landing on palmya today and we should have it in 2 days or so. The next turns will be crucial. I pray operation wind blade goes off without a hitch. Well anymore of a hitch then is possible. I can't believe the japs only start with 3 MSW!!!. I have all 3 MSW enroute to PH to try and clean this mess up.

Well 1300 AP and i attempted a shock attack that was a mistake. I guess a few more turns of bombardment. We took palmyra island though so my damaged ships have a close harbor to seek safe haven in. And allied subs showed up this morning and put 3 torps into assorted targets.

I will not lose faith in another 7 days i can have 3 more divisions on PH.

Another few ships torn up by mines subs and coastal guns. My guys are under heavy disruption but i'm going to keep slogging away. Just to be safe the 2 divisions slotted for midway & wake are diverted at the last minute to continue on to PH.

Bataan falls.
The first wounded ships pull into palmyra inlet.

most of the troops were offloaded so all the transports are hightailing it for another safe port until we can get the rest of those supplies in there. I had 10k supplies on shore and all units are fully supplied so we should be ok

Well i sunk the AZ and put a hurting on the other ships hopefully my next task force can go in and sink a few more. Once i get my other fleets to safe harbor they can rearm and come back for round two hopefully my troops wont be eliminated. If i just hang back they should be ok. I outnumber them 2-1 and i know the US has only enough lift to move another 250 AP into PH which still wont stop them once i can clear their navy away.

Combat was very bloody and i'll post some screen shots of it in a little bit. My BB's would have done more damage but they ran out of ammo. Thankfully they kept the US ships out of my transports though that is important. I had a few BB's in Transport taskforces that i moved to another surface taskforce to engage the ships. he's got homefield advantage though i'm afraid.

Bloody Night fightin

Post by bwheatley »

Another round of night fighting. I lost the BB Aiki but i took out the CA charleston with a mag explosion and sunk a few more DD's and banged up a few more BB's.

This coming turn 5 BB's are jumping into PH for some night fighting and then they will head off to johnston to regroup. I have a BDE a few turns out from HILO so that will serve as a nice close port for rearming which is empty. So it will be a quick grab and then i have a safe and close haven for my fleet.

God damnit. I set my main BB to steam into PH at night and i guess they di dor didnt because they didn't engage his fleets. I've put his bb's full of holes and i needed to finish. This time i set him to PATROL and sent him into pearl. I'll be landing on HILO shortly which will give me a nice place to rearm so i dont have such a far retreat and i can put my guys into dry dock right away.
