And here is the score card.

Sunk ships break down as follows:

USN:
10 DD
07 PG
04 AK

IJN:
03 DD
01 AP

All these were lost around northern Luzon except the Allied AK which have been lost in CENPAC.

Note that the lop-sided VP total is due to Manilla falling to the Japanese this turn. Most WPO plans of this period called for Manilla specifically as the target of the offensive, hence this scenario has increased the VP cost of Manilla ( to make it the same as for the Japanese ). Emphasizing to the US that this is target !

This time will show view of P.I. things are moving .. don't have as much "over-whelming force" as I'd like .. but US has choosen to defend in Bataan which may ease the AV burden a bit. Spent my 750 PP this turn activating the 8 Hvy Art at Nagasaki, for movement to Bataan, do see a need for more than 1 Arty unit there. Also activated 1 construction engineer and 1 baseforce to send to Marcus from Kure, to build up port to support Wake campaign if needed ( hope it isn't ! ).
Current Luzon force is
4 Infantry Divisions
1 Arty ( another enroute )
1 Cbt Eng
1 HQ
Also have 3 BF enroute.

So the DMs our sub line saw last turn WERE the vanguard of a USN fleet - and some Big Boys have come to visit Guam. I see "6" in the spotting report and a second TF of "DDs" ... fortunately my spot last turn enabled me to move my transports off a couple of hexes and suspend the fast transport mission that would've arrived this turn. We are about a week out from having our 9 dreadnoughts assembled near Wake.
Either the USN are just trying to drive us off - or they are covering a reinforcement convoy.
So at this point, it is not clear that we can capture Wake. We will try, but if they can get a Division aboard the place before we can, it may be difficult for us. The bad news for us is that the US fleet is stronger. The good news for us is that logistically we have more abilities in this area ( though we are weak - the USN is weaker ! Logistically, in this area ).
So we will continue to move forces towards the area and this includes the 10th Division now approaching Marcus from the Bonins.
Also we have 8 subs now in the Wake area with 2 more enroute. But, today we missed.

2 turns of nada have come and gone ... but both sides have been marshalling forces in the Wake area. The USN BBs are still around ... our 9 good dreadnoughts have gassed up and are heading to the area ... about 2 turns from Marcus .. probably 5-6 from Wake. The 10th Div is parked at Marcus awaiting escort. We have 3 CL/DD taksforces ( 6-8 ships each ) ploughing back and forth between Marcus and Wake trying to provide some hint that we are around.
The US showed up this turn with numerous single ship AK TFs ( I hate it when they do that ! ) at Wake ... we drove some of them off - but not enough "umphf" to get them all ...
So things are brewing for a major clash at Wake.

Current ships sunk breakdown is:
USN:
10 DD
07 PG
06 AK
IJN:
04 DD
01 AP

I wonder what people think about advisability of IJN fighting at Wake in these circumstances ?

Well I won't put the Wake Area map out there again this time, it doesn't look that different but things are still "brewing" in that area. We could see a major action there within the week. I have my 9 good dreadnoughts about 1 day out of Marcus and thus about 4-5 days from Wake ( depending on refueling ).

I note that these are the same BBs that bombarded Wake on the 19th ... thus there has been insufficient time for him to rearm .. thus the lower casualty totals we see may reflect less ammo on his part. We are ordering in one of our CL/DD groups this turn ... his BBs may pull off .. but if so then we will be happy with transports.

So far what is unloading seems to be another BF no more combat troops ( yet ).

Reminding those who aren't reading regularly, we also have the 10th Infantry Div waiting at Marcus to come to Wake, so from our perspective, that is what all this is about.

Ok time for the Wake area map again. The "show down" is approaching. Our 10th Div will start unloading in 3-4 days, we have 2 Dreadnought groups ( 4 BC and 5 BB with escort ) in support as well as 2 CL/DD groups. Our AO group is a few hexes NW of Wake also supporting the operation. Also around Wake we have 6 subs with 3 more enroute and 1 milch cow in support.

Situation around Wake. 10 Div is ashore, we shock attacked this turn and reduced his forts from 6 to 0 ... we will bombard ( hit and run ) with both dreadnought groups this comming turn and all warships will then depart to the north ( Paramashiro is "home port" to force withdrawal due north .. USN subs have been lurking in the direct path between Marcus and Wake, so we want to avoid that ).
We will shock attack again this next turn and should take Wake. The only doubt is indicated by that group of 6 USN DDs heading due West through our sub screen .. if that is the battle fleet and more troops and they can all get to Wake and bombard and do a little unloading .. then .. maybe we don't succeed next turn. Just in case, we've loaded up the 14th DIvision at Tokyo as last ace in the hole.

Map ... assuming USN doesn't launch immediate counter landing ... action focus should shift away from here ... and back to PI .. and then after that - to the Marshalls ...

View of the P.I. Troops are now available to reinforce the seige of Bataan and also to resume the conquest of the non-Luzon portions of the P.I. More Arty and Engineers are needed for Bataan and they are either in route or awaiting a few more PP. But within 2 weeks we should be ready to make first test attack on Battaan.

Pace of acction will probably be less than it has been over the next several days .. so I will post current VP screen and sunk ships during this slower period.
