Now, now. There is no reason to automatically assume that we will have another Crown of Glory like experience with this game. Is there??
The problem seems to be that the rowboat either doesn't have any oars or is headed for a tropical island that either is a mirage or contains indigenous hostile beings (see below for an example) that will ... umm "swallow up" the developers.

You know, there was a study correlating bloodlust in the heat of battle and erections. What disturbs me the most about that, in this day and age, is the neo-conservative adage that “the battle never ends” and the pharmaceutical industry’s claims that “if your erection last over four hours you should see the advice of a physician”.

It might upset the serbs, but Croatia is an independent state, they like it or not. Since the serbs oppressed hungarian minority, they still do, while the croats have not, so I dont feel pity for them.

As for the rebel flag if someone complains, I'll think about replacing it. I like these colours since my childhood when I read a czech! authors book about Merrimack and Monitor, titled The coffin attacks!

BTW which is your favorite period? I suppose napoleonic. [:D]

My favorite period of history is early colonial (1600-1815). I plan on concentrating in this area when I begin my masters degree program.

To make a comment about my earlier post, the Checker Board flag of Croatia was the same flag they flew during the Nazi regeime. It's like a swastika to a Jew, very offensive. We have had serious issues arise in the states over the public display of the Confederate Battle Flag. The latest incedent was in the State of South Carolina, where the flag was removed from being flown over the State Capital bulding.

As for you displaying the flag, I hope you don't get any grief for it. It does not have the same level of contention as the swastika, so hopefully you will be fine.

I must admit when I first saw Ursas' avatar I wondered if he was a white supremacist type now living/posted in Hungary. In the UK the confederate battle flag now conjures an image of racism, rather than some sort of independent free thinking, anti establishment "rebel".

Nice. What about the Dukes of Hazard? Are they racist with their General Lee as well? :brave new world:

As for the checkerboard flag, it is Croatia's coat of arms since around 1000 yrs. It is mentioned first IIRC when Croatia was attached to the hungarian kingdom in 1091 as the traditional coat of arms of that country. BTW Croatia was part of Hungary till 1920. As of swastika the finns' sign was a blue (their national color) standing (not oblique like the nazi) swatika pointing in another direction. It is still displayed on contemporary vehicles and planes on display. I dont think anybody should or could have negative feelings about it.

Which area will you select? Military, political, economic and which countries or globally?

well, they opened the can of worms first. but....

that is the whole hassle when someone assumes this or that stands for something, other then what it is

the Iron Cross has a long history, and not all of it is Germen

the Swastika is strange, as it is a copy of of many Icons, that have been used for Ages
and yes, the Germen Swastika can and should be viewed as Evil, should the Finish, the NA Indian or the Hindu one be also ?

and how many countries have used some form of the Stars and Bars in there flags ?

the Twin Headed Polish Eagle can stand for a lot of the same things that most find bad in these other emblems but much people do not see it, or even know about it

don't judge somebody based on a Icon or emblem or flag they may show

okay off of the soap box

what kind of update do you want ?

I see nothing wrong with the Confederate battle flag.

Many good men fought, performed heroic deeds, and died under that flag.
The American Civil War was fought over many issues, with slavery being just one of them. I've got no sympathy for people who feel oppressed or upset or offended if they see a Confederate flag. That flag is a part of our history. It shouldn't become taboo to display a flag just because a bunch of politically correct over sensitive "victims" have their feelings hurt by it.

The Dukes of Hazzard are typical Southern White "good ole boys". They have a rebellious attitude and believe the Stars and Bars are a symbol of Southern White heritage and culture. As with most who believe this, tend to forget that the symbol of the Rebel Army and Southern Society was directly tied to the American aristocracy and slavery.

Politics have really been a growing interest to me, and since war is politics by other means, I would study both. The problem that I am finding in academia is that most professors will mention wars but don't go into details. I have to learn that by reading on my own.

Boy, getting a little off topic, but at least some action is going on around here.

My 2 cents, I don't get offended if someone wants to prance around a confederate or swastica flag avatar. But I would start to question their integrity if they start to force its politics upon me.

That being said, there are many people in the world (due to recent events) who get highly offended by the sight of an american flag. But I really don't forsee these forums banning the American flag over it.

Well there you go. I changed my avatar. It is now the so called Big coat of arms of the Hungarian Kingdom with angels holding it. (before 1920 Trianon Treaty). You can see the Holy Crown on it, which represents the independence of the state from Byzant and the Holy German Roman Empire and no king was accepted as 'crowned' by the nobles and peasants alike, without it.

The central shield is the current symbol of the hungarian republic, while in the background you can see Croatia (right upper corner checkerboard), part of Hungary 1091-1918, Yugoslavia 1918-1991 now Croatia, below it Transsylvania (was never a really independent state except between 1541-1691) - now Romania, in the bottom the independent city of Fiume, the barely visible three crowned lionheads as Slavonia (upper left) - now Croatia, and below Dalmatia also now Croatia.

So this will definitely hurt the feelings of the romanians, who say Transsylvania is theirs since many thousand years, the slovaks who lived in the Carpathian-basin before the magyar tribes came in (896) but never had a state before 1918, and the serbs who got their part of Hungary in the Trianon treaty. Probably (depends on the person) will have some effect on croats, and will leave people from our other two neighbours Ukraine and Austria totally neutral. But since the population of these countries (combined) is far less numerous (not to mention the people from these countries using the internet) than those of afroamericans or people who are oversensible to symbols, I'll keep this one.

Nice little place I am living in. [:D] This place is also called the Path of Armies because most armies travelling from north to south or from east to west had to come through here. E.g. the land route of the crusades went through here (along the river Danube).

Never ask someone from a small country about their history.[;)]

Back to our subject, there were so called hungarian and german infantry regiments in the napoleonic austrian army, the difference was mainly in their clothing.

@Kai

Just to add a little crap to the discussion concerning the Confederate battle flag.
Actually I try to tolerate ANY opinion. But there are limits!
e.g. If people are hurt, harrassed etc.

And that is, even if only patial, something the Confederate battle flag stands for.
If you want to, get set it in your frontyard and dance around it an hour a day! I don't care! And I don't have the right to care!

But I think in a country, where burning the flag is a crime, there is something more to flags then there is in other countries.
And the start of thr "Confederate battle flag" discussion was it being removed from a state capital building!

And this is a thing I care about! And for it is a public building I have all right on earth to be uset!
This flag did stand for many things, but one of them was slavery!

And apart from the "slap in the face" it is for any afro-american (which I'm not) it should be just as much to ANY human being which isn't a racist!

I think it's comparable with the following:
Hey the 3rd Reich wasn't too bad! Hitler didn't just kill a couple million people. He build highways as well!

BULLSHIT!
Burn those signs of hatred and get those thoughts out of the heads!
There are only 10 types of people in the world!
Those who can read binary - and those who don't!

PLease, please no flaming, no burning, since who starts a fire very likely wont be able to put it out. Let's get back to the topic.

THX Hard Sarge. I was wearing this one on my T-shirt when I was asked in italian by an old man, I answered him 'Non capisco' I dont understand, he said sorry I thought it was an italian coat of arms. The whole story was in Australia, and oddly enough he was born in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy.

Sorry OT

Post by Hard Sarge »

Sorry for keeping this post off Topic, but that reminded me

a long time ago I was in the Marines and we were on liberty in Keil, we took a train to Hamburg

one of my friends wanted a Tatoo touched up, while in there and talking to the two old men who worked there, I kind of got interested in what I was seeing

and the one seemed to notice, so came over and asked if there was anything I wanted

I had seen a number of Eagles, but asked if he had any of the Polish Double headed ones, he stopped, said something to the other one, and then a short loud arguement broke out, but the one talking to me won, the other guy got up and locked the doors and started closing the windows and me and my friends start looking at each other, what the heck is going on ?

the one man runs up the stairs and returns a short time later with a old folder

it had a number of SS Double headed Eagles

man, they were very nice, and I wanted one like you could not believe, but I could see me walking around in Hamburg with a SS tatoo on my arm or chest (let alone coming home and seeing my Dad or Grandfather !!!)

(we toyed with the idea of replaceing the SS Runes in the Eagles Talons with something else , but couldn't find anything that would match)
