Yes, what's better for the Engineers? In the hex or next to it? I've got them in the hex and even with zero suppression, it ain't happening!!

Check each engineer unit by right-clicking on them and look at the bottom of the left colomn of data. There is a line in green that will say something like "Clear mines in front of unit", Will not clear mines in front of unit" and "Place mines in front of unit". This line can be toggled by clicking on it; set it to "clear mines" for the engineer to clear mines in the hex it occupies or the one in front of it.

There is no real difference whether the engineer clears mines from the hex it faces, or from the one it occupies; but make sure that the unit is facing the mined hex before you end your turn, otherwise no removal will happen. Same goes for placing mines; whichever direction the unit is facing at the end of your turn is the hex it will place mines in. So if your engineer changed its facing, this is why no removal is happening.

Thnaks. I was aware of the toggle. You say no difference in hex or next to hex. I was in the hex, but maybe I wasn't facing the right way?!?

The default setting is remove mines so if you dont want them to remove you have to change the setting otherwise just move them up to or on the mine hexx and always facing the mines does not matter when they are on the same hex.

Remember they only remove mines at a rate of 3 to 4 per turn and sometimes less. So it pays to have an extra or even several working on the same hex at a time as the hex may contain 20 mines.
