I may have to amend my dumbest move......i just lost a high VP value battleship by sailing it within Japanese torpedo aircraft range. "Darrrr......................u sunk my battleship!"

Sent KB in against Mogami in SRA ... he stuck the ENTIRE Dutch air force on one base and damn near took out KB! [X(]

Morale of the story ... even crappy planes drop bombs when there is enough of them [:(]

Sending BC Repulse on a 'fishing trip' in the Java Sea. She caught lots of 'fish' before rolling over and sinking....

Thinking that India was going to fall I sent the greater bulk of the British merchant marine south from Karachi to the "relative" safety of Perth only to run into a couple of mini KBs in the Indian Ocean which then proceded to sink at least 50 ships.

Post Script: India didn't fall.[:(]

Ordering general retreat to Singapore and evacuating all units in one day using a Monster-AP/AK-TF (being tired of this single-ship-TF business) - ordered it to Colombo via Batavia - stacked Palembang and Batavia full of fighter planes including AVG in order to provide LRCAP over the convoy - but LST forgot to give the necessary orders - then 'surprise surprise' KB showed up...

Java was about to fall and was my last foothold in the SRA. I thought I'd try and get out one last squadron of those short legged Dutch Fighters (is it the Hawk or the Demon?).

Indomitable approaches to about 7 hexes. Fighters won't fly on to Indomitable. So I close to 3 hexes. Still won't fly. Maybe, I think, they are not flying because they will only board a CV if shes in port. So dock her at some southern Javan base with the Fighters. Huge force of Bettys and Zeros sweep through the massed CAP of 12 Fulmars [X(] and sink Indomitable. Were is the justice in that [&:][:D]

Watched with some wry amusement as IJA land forces rolled over the marooned Fighters a few days later [:D] As the Smiths put it "I can laugh about it now but at the time it was terrible...." [:D]

This just happened last weekend. It's Mar 42. Some of my subs found a major Allied supply route and I sent 4 CVs to "investigate". Support was 2 CVs and 2 CVLs. The first KB found them and started trashing them. In and out raid, I thought. Then Yorktown shows up and launches. I sink her and take light damage to Soryu. So far so good. The Soryu's planes land on Hiryu. Now Hiryu has 90 planes and can't launch. I start to withdraw and the Sara magically appears. She launches and damages all 4 CVs, Hiryu heavily. Over the next couple of turns Sara takes some 30 250 kg bombs and 3 torps before she rolls over and sinks. [X(]

It looks like the Hiryu may not make it. If she goes down, she'll take 90 KB pilots with her.[:(]

According to Mog: WITP is designed so that FLT rises as fires are being fought, apparently as 100's of tons of water are used every hour to fight the fires.

Compartments would also be selectively flooded to fight fires - the classic example was to flood magazines if fire threatened them. Similarly, other compartments might also get flooded to help control the fires.

US carriers (and other allied ships) have better damage control as it was in real life, on the other hand, Japan ships often sinks because poor damage control, so yes it's modeled well (but I would limit allied damage control only to warships, not giving this bonus to transports as we have in the game now)

As for rising your flt damage i think it would rise until your fires aren't suppresed, but not 100% sure.

HITS: watch your combat replay and count *real hits* (those which penetrate and cause damage : "severe damage to electricals, "several casaulties on the deck", "critical damage"....)

Other hits are just Fog of War....

Btw... from my exp torp hits caused from 10 to 20 sys damage for the US

Actually, allied damage control did also apply to transports, but only latter in the war. The ships were better designed with shock mountings, etc., so that damage that would have sunk a transport earlier in the war would be non-threatening (i.e. shock of torpedo hitting, say, the bow would knock the engine off its mounts early in the war, causing loss of power, loss of pumping capacity - ships floods and sinks. Later in the war, the shock mountings would prevent this. Ships could control flooding and keep on sailing.) AFAIK, the IJ merchant marine didn't have this during WW2.

I would agree with that, although others might dispute it. Probably if the game was to realistically model the damage control bonus, it would be less to start with, and then more would be phased in over the first 6 months to 1 year, with a delay on the merchants.

Lexington sunk becouse spark burns fuel in lower levels. That is an example of poor damage control. In WITP that will not happen, every allied ship has uber-soldat manageing damage control.

i think most people would agree that ahistorical things happen in WITP. Heck, some days it seems MOST things are ahistorical. However, the trick is to repeat the mantra: "it's only a game, it's only a game". Say this 100x. If you are still bothered, repeat until you become unconscious due to lack of sleep...[:D]

I could live with current damage control, but the main problem is that some things aren't balanced - i will name only BB repair rate on the West coast - they all repairs at the warp rate and they are ready for service one year faster than historical...

This is best game i ever played, but i am going crazy with all bugs and game engine. But,yes its only a game[;)].

True, but thats a minor problem. I reach new house rule with GH. It says, allied 4E bombers cannot do naval attacks on altitudes less than 10000 feet. These planes which in RL miss whole towns hits my DDs from 6000 feet.IT SUCKS
