Looks to me like this with the arrows showing the directions. I'm not sure about the ship on the right (if it really is a ship) though.

Hmm, comparing the pictures, you may be right. That may be only one ship.

Marc has a match I think.
There are only two kinds of people that understand Marines: Marines and the enemy. Everyone else has a second-hand opinion.

Hm. The masts don't match.

I can find no japanese light cruiser with masts that fit to the picture.

I guess this picture was taken before WWII.

Yeah, smoke traveling against the direction of the stern water plume as well...
Yamato, IMO the best looking Battleship.

Occording to Feinder there are two ships in the picture. Also, the ship looks a little small to be a CL.

From the looks of it, the one going to the right has only 2 stacks and the one going left has one stack. (Otherwise, if you think one has 3 then the other has none, which would really be strange).

How about this: a Japanese destroyer (single stack) crossing next to a Japanese seaplane tender in the Aleutians....
So much WitP and so little time to play.... :-(

I thought it was two ships myself (but it's not). Here's a not so distorted pic...

Going by the second picture, I'll say it's Isokaze class destroyer.

Still having issues with the three stacks. No Japanese DD had that many to my knowledge (all two or one). While I say that, the freeboard of the ship doesn't suddenly drop aft of the bridge on any Japanese CL like that. After looking in my Janes '45 I still can't find an acceptable fit. I'd say it's either a very old DD or I have no clue.[:D]

Looking through Conway's "All The Fighting Ships, 1906-1921", it looks like the Isokaze class destroyer. They had that sudden drop from the foredeck(?) to the afterdeck(?) right behind the bridge. They also had three stacks. Four were built, the Isokaze, the Umikaze, the Amatsukaze, and the Tokitsukaze. The last was used as a training ship and broken up in 1948.

So, my final answer is...the Tokitsukaze.

Ah, this might explain why it's not showing up in Janes '45. Kinda figured it had to be around that age, no DD designed in the '30s on had more than 2 stacks. Plus the freeboard was a clue to it's general size. GJ on finding something at least possible on that photo.[&o]

I'm going to have to give it to you guys. It's the Tanikaze, sister ship of the Amatsukaze. I thought they were carried over from WW1 (there is a Tanikaze that is in WW2, but it's actually Kagero class).

Grrr.

That's twice I've screwed this up.

Here's the link I used...

Definitely the Royal Nonesuch.....

This just shows how obscure you have to get to stump this crew.

Has anyone gotten this? It does not look like a CL to me. It doesn't really look like a fighting ship. I only see two large guns. Im guessing some sort of odd DD variant or very old DD.

Edit: Doh, just found the rest of the posts.
