Over 100 heavy bombers and 30 subs continue to run supplies into Manila through the Japanese sea and air blockade.

The Allies have perhaps excecuted a major deployment error in Luzon by attempting to garrison both Manila and Clark. 50,000 IJA troops have invested Clark and another 120,000 IJA troops have invested Manila....now no movement can occur between the 2 strongpoints and each Allied garrison can be defeated in detail.

The Allies have stockpiled over 70,000 supply in Singapore.

That's impressive. Can I ask how you're doing that, or is it a trade secret?

CTANGUS....Ive been transporting supply into Singapore from Karachi and Bombay since the beginning of the war. More recently Ive been bringing supply in from Toboali and Palembang.

The first thing you need to do is establish air superiority over Singapore....that requires much more than just CAP....Ive been bombing the Jap airifields at Songkhia and Khota Bharu on a regular basis and even had one major raid on Saigon (that one was devastating).

Ive also stockpiled over 24,000 oil and 24,000 resources at Singapore. With the 300 HI there Singapore will generate its own supply of 300 per day for the next 80 days. After unloading the AKs and TKs at Singapore I pull fuel and engineer units out.

Altogether Japan loses 58 AC today vs 57 Allied. Losses include 36 A6M2s, 10 Nells, 8 Sallys, 16 P-40Bs, 12 P-40Es, 17 Hurricanes and 8 Demons.

The Allied losses of P-40Bs and P-40Es are irreplaceable and due to their critical shortage across the Pacific theater no new P-40 squadrons will be commited to the defense of the DEI but will be held in reserve to defend US bases in the south and central Pacific.

Instead, 2 Marine F4F squadrons will be staged to the DEI with their virtual "limitless" replacements.

SITUATION REPORT: 2-14-42

MALAYA:

Allied bombers continue to suppress Japanese airfields in Malaya in an attempt to maintain their air superiority over Singapore:

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 02/14/42

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Songkhia , at 24,43

B-26B Marauder: 2 damaged

Japanese ground losses:

Airbase supply hits 5
Runway hits 76

In a daring attack, Japanese troops force their way across the causeway from Johore Bharu into Singapore:

Ground combat at Singapore

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 129107 troops, 1555 guns, 45 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 2792

Defending force 71171 troops, 557 guns, 12 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 1158

Japanese engineers reduce fortifications to 7

Japanese max assault: 4968 - adjusted assault: 2698

Allied max defense: 1269 - adjusted defense: 2093

Japanese assault odds: 1 to 1 (fort level 7)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 7

Japanese ground losses:
2897 casualties reported
Guns lost 99
Vehicles lost 3

Allied ground losses:
1882 casualties reported
Guns lost 45

I think that I became somewhat complacent here and withdrew too many troops....the Japanese force their way into Singapore with relatively few casualties.

PI:

To complete this disasterous day for the Allies, a major shock attack by Japan at Clark Field forces the defenders back into the jungles of Bataan:

Ground combat at Clark Field

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 49769 troops, 638 guns, 109 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 1058

Defending force 9040 troops, 83 guns, 31 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 181

Japanese engineers reduce fortifications to 0

Japanese max assault: 988 - adjusted assault: 581

Allied max defense: 175 - adjusted defense: 130

Japanese assault odds: 4 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese forces CAPTURE Clark Field base !!!

Japanese ground losses:
318 casualties reported
Guns lost 8
Vehicles lost 3

Allied ground losses:
1051 casualties reported
Guns lost 8
Vehicles lost 6

Defeated Allied Units Retreating!

Now Japan can let the 9000 strong Allied pocket starve at Bataan while they concentrate all their forces to take out General MacArthur and his 45,000 troops at Manila.

SITUATION REPORT: 2-17-42

MALAYA:

In the largest air battle of the war so far Japan sends 134 A6M2s over Singapore in a desperate bid for air superiority:

Day Air attack on Singapore , at 23,50

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 134
G3M Nell x 25
G4M1 Betty x 26

Allied aircraft
F4F-3 Wildcat x 17
Brewster 339D x 3
Hurricane II x 24
P-40B Tomahawk x 33
P-40E Warhawk x 18

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 51 destroyed, 4 damaged
G3M Nell: 3 destroyed, 4 damaged
G4M1 Betty: 2 destroyed, 11 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
F4F-3 Wildcat: 16 destroyed
Brewster 339D: 4 destroyed
Hurricane II: 24 destroyed
P-40B Tomahawk: 14 destroyed, 6 damaged
P-40E Warhawk: 10 destroyed
F.K.51: 2 destroyed

Allied ground losses:
70 casualties reported

Airbase hits 6
Airbase supply hits 5
Runway hits 30

Altogether today Japan loses 74 AC vs 72 Allied AC. Japanese losses of 52 A6M2s account for almost 1/4 of their 222 A6M2 losses so far for the war. The Allies lose 24 Hurricanes, 14 P-40Bs, 11 P-40Es and 16 F4F-3s as the US Marines arrive in the nick of time.

Curiously in Singapore, the surrounded Allied troops are swimming in their 70,000 supply while the Japanese are starving so an all out effort is made to interdict Japanese supply to their troops in Singapore through Johore Bharu:

Day Air attack on Johore Bahru , at 22,49

Japanese aircraft
Ki-27 Nate x 5

Allied aircraft
F4F-3 Wildcat x 5
Hurricane II x 6
F.K.51 x 4
P-40B Tomahawk x 10
P-40E Warhawk x 6
B-25C Mitchell x 39
B-26B Marauder x 25

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-27 Nate: 6 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
B-26B Marauder: 1 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
96 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

Airbase hits 2
Airbase supply hits 1
Runway hits 52

Day Air attack on Johore Bahru , at 22,49

Japanese aircraft
Ki-27 Nate x 1

Allied aircraft
Martin 139 x 25
A-20B Boston x 10
B-25C Mitchell x 8

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-27 Nate: 1 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
34 casualties reported

Airbase hits 3
Airbase supply hits 1
Runway hits 53

The besieging Japanese troops at Singapore will NOT bombard due to a lack of supply but the Allied troops will bombard every day to use up Japanese supply. B-17s in Java will also ground attack the Japanese army at Singapore.

With our 3 month break in the game I wasnt paying enough attention to the details and consequently the Japanese entered Singapore very cheaply. Percival was sacked immediately and replaced with Haig. All British/Indian/Commonwealth units in Burma and India had their replacements turned off so that replacements could flood into Singapore.

CHINA:

SEAC fighters stage to China to break up the Japanese strategic bombing attacks at Changsha and Yenen:

Day Air attack on Yenen , at 50,26

Japanese aircraft
Ki-21 Sally x 15

Allied aircraft
Mohawk IV x 15

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21 Sally: 3 destroyed, 1 damaged

PI:

Tophat figured out that I was transporting in supply to Manila by Liberators based at Tarakan so he is now bombing Tarakan on a daily basis. Im also shipping in supply from Brunei (B-17s) and Wuchow(IL-4s) and I wonder why he isnt flying LRCAP over Manila to stop this.

Japanese launches a deliberate assault at Manila:

Ground combat at Manila

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 132290 troops, 1167 guns, 159 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 2357

Defending force 44122 troops, 367 guns, 104 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 1100

Japanese max assault: 2309 - adjusted assault: 1596

Allied max defense: 1032 - adjusted defense: 1677

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese ground losses:
2473 casualties reported
Guns lost 56
Vehicles lost 5

Allied ground losses:
1746 casualties reported
Guns lost 51
Vehicles lost 2

Tophat told me that he expected Manila to fall any day now but with 4000 supply there I think that I can hold out for another 3-4 weeks.

DESTRUCTION OF THE FAR EASTERN FIGHTER FORCE

Post by racndoc »

SITUATION REPORT: 2-20-42

MALAYA:

Allied medium bombers continue to interdict the Japanese supply line that runs through Johore Bharu to Singapore:

Day Air attack on Johore Bahru , at 22,49

Allied aircraft
Martin 139 x 30
A-20B Boston x 14
B-25C Mitchell x 18

No Allied losses

Japanese ground losses:
49 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Port hits 3
Port fuel hits 6
Port supply hits 2

Other Allied medium bombers keep up the pressure on the Japanese airfield at Khota Bharu:

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 02/20/42

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Khota Bharu , at 24,45

Japanese aircraft
no flights

Allied aircraft
Brewster 339D x 3
B-25C Mitchell x 46
B-26B Marauder x 45

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21 Sally: 4 destroyed
Ki-46-II Dinah: 1 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
B-25C Mitchell: 1 damaged
B-26B Marauder: 1 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
360 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Airbase hits 6
Airbase supply hits 8
Runway hits 130

But the big action of the day is the massive Japanese airstrike on Singapore led by 191 A6M2s:

Day Air attack on Singapore , at 23,50

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 191
G3M Nell x 27
G4M1 Betty x 19

Allied aircraft
F4F-3 Wildcat x 7
Hurricane II x 18
P-40B Tomahawk x 30
P-40E Warhawk x 12

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 37 destroyed
G3M Nell: 2 damaged
G4M1 Betty: 2 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
F4F-3 Wildcat: 9 destroyed
Hurricane II: 20 destroyed
P-40B Tomahawk: 30 destroyed
P-40E Warhawk: 13 destroyed
Brewster 339D: 1 destroyed
B-26B Marauder: 1 destroyed
F.K.51: 2 destroyed

Allied ground losses:
36 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Airbase hits 6
Airbase supply hits 4
Runway hits 35

I told Tophat that there would be retribution in Feb. 1943 when I send 191 P-38s over one of his airfields.

This marks the end of the Allied Far Eastern Fighter Force and the end of Allied air supremacy in SE Asia. Overall the Allies lost 89 AC today vs 59 Japanese AC. The losses were catastrophic for the AVG.....31 P-40Bs, 14 P-40Es, 21 Hurricanes and 11 F4F-3s. This appears to be a Pyhrric victory for Japan however....they lose another 40 A6M2s for a total of 264 A6M2s in the war.

Going back to my initial post in this thread where we were examining the vulnerability of A6M2s in the early war, it appears that Tophats fighter losses are similiar to those that were suffered by Japan in my previous AAR "OPERATION PACIFIC".

Ive posted a table below of Japanese and Allied losses so far. Japan has lost more AC than the Allies...almost 1100 AC so far and about 850 pilots. Thats a loss of over 300 pilots per month. Tough to replace. Japan has also lost more ships than the Allies:

SITUATION REPORT: 2-21-42

CHINA:

After several weeks of intensive training of the Chinese Army by daily bombardments, Japan unleashes massive assaults at Yenen and Changsha only to suffer nearly 22,000 casualties:

Ground combat at Changsha

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 238727 troops, 2795 guns, 162 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 4913

Defending force 167099 troops, 1042 guns, 0 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 4325

Japanese max assault: 4834 - adjusted assault: 1118

Allied max defense: 4676 - adjusted defense: 8940

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 9)

Japanese ground losses:
11171 casualties reported
Guns lost 303
Vehicles lost 12

Allied ground losses:
1321 casualties reported
Guns lost 48

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Yenen

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 255079 troops, 2606 guns, 155 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 4937

Defending force 121160 troops, 719 guns, 74 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 3135

Japanese max assault: 5013 - adjusted assault: 1816

Allied max defense: 3280 - adjusted defense: 12805

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 7)

Japanese ground losses:
10573 casualties reported
Guns lost 279
Vehicles lost 14

Allied ground losses:
2834 casualties reported
Guns lost 41
Vehicles lost 4

With 240,000 IJA troops at Yenen, 255,000 IJA troops at Changsha and another 14 LCUs at Canton, I think that the Japanese China Expeditionary Force is nearly accounted for.

Chinese supply remains good with 22,000 at Yenen, 27,000 at Changsha and Chungking, and almost 9000 at Wuchow. Probably the most vulnerable part of the Chinese front is the 4 Corps blocking force in front of Wuchow. IL-4 bombers based at Wuchow continue to transport supply into Manila.

PI:

Japan launches a major attack at Manila:

Ground combat at Manila

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 131769 troops, 1084 guns, 220 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 2338

Defending force 40945 troops, 274 guns, 102 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 990

Japanese max assault: 2266 - adjusted assault: 2033

Allied max defense: 874 - adjusted defense: 2109

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese ground losses:
1962 casualties reported
Guns lost 28
Vehicles lost 7

Allied ground losses:
1522 casualties reported
Guns lost 43
Vehicles lost 1

American and Philippino casualties are surprisingly high relative to those of Japan. There is still over 4000 supply at the base in Manila but evidently its not getting to the individual units. Japan is bombing Tarakan on a daily basis so the LB-30's based there had to be withdrawn further reducing resupply of Manila. The end for Manila seems to be near so USN subs transporting in supplies will take out valuable ground specialists as they return to base.

MALAYA:

Japanese bombers continue to pound the remnants of the Far Eastern Fighter Force on the ground in Singapore:

Day Air attack on Singapore , at 23,50

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 16
G3M Nell x 24
G4M1 Betty x 19

Allied aircraft
no flights

Japanese aircraft losses
G3M Nell: 7 damaged
G4M1 Betty: 9 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
Hurricane II: 2 destroyed
B-26B Marauder: 1 destroyed
F4F-3 Wildcat: 1 destroyed
P-40E Warhawk: 1 destroyed

Allied ground losses:
13 casualties reported

Airbase hits 6
Airbase supply hits 1
Runway hits 27

The Allied defenders of Singapore continue to bombard IJA troops on a daily basis and medium bombers continue to interdict Johore Bharu in a desperate attempt to keep the Japanese ground forces out of supply:

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 02/21/42

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Johore Bahru , at 22,49

Allied aircraft
Buffalo I x 12
Martin 139 x 25
A-20B Boston x 14
B-25C Mitchell x 14

No Allied losses

Japanese ground losses:
58 casualties reported

Port hits 1
Port fuel hits 1

It appears the allies are putting up a good defense against this dastardly Japanese offensive.[8D]
For what we are about to receive, may we be truly thankful.

Thanx for the comments BrucePowers. I think that the Allied defense here is like a hard but brittle shell....once it cracks it will be hard to contain Japan.

SITUATION REPORT: 2-27-42

MALAYA:

Allied bombers continue to disrupt the Japanese besiegers at Singapore while interdicting their supply at the same time:

Day Air attack on 5th Division, at 23,50

Japanese aircraft
Ki-27 Nate x 7

Allied aircraft
B-17C Fortress x 9
B-17E Fortress x 29
LB-30 Liberator x 12

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-27 Nate: 1 destroyed, 3 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
B-17E Fortress: 2 damaged
LB-30 Liberator: 1 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
83 casualties reported
Guns lost 7
Vehicles lost 1

Day Air attack on Johore Bahru , at 22,49

Allied aircraft
Martin 139 x 31
A-20B Boston x 13
B-25C Mitchell x 10

No Allied losses

Japanese ground losses:
73 casualties reported

Port hits 1
Port fuel hits 2
Port supply hits 2

Japan is getting desperate to supply its troops at Singapore and is flying in transport AC with supply. Last turn 3 Tabbys were shot down and another 5 were damaged by Allied AA.

Japan launches another attack and causes surprisingly heavy Allied casualties at Singapore:

Ground combat at Singapore

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 128505 troops, 1122 guns, 25 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 2288

Defending force 68075 troops, 482 guns, 12 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 1073

Japanese engineers reduce fortifications to 5

Japanese max assault: 1641 - adjusted assault: 944

Allied max defense: 1154 - adjusted defense: 3140

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 5)

Japanese ground losses:
2088 casualties reported
Guns lost 45
Vehicles lost 3

Allied ground losses:
2766 casualties reported

The Allied AV at Singapore was about 950 after the previous Japanese assault, built up to over 1100 AV and after this attack is down to 975. I think that the situation is alright for the Allies however. Japan can only manage one attack every 5-6 days and they are a long ways away from achieving 1:1 odds so I think that Singapore can hold out for quite some time. Allied AV and fortifications are rebuilding between each IJA assault.

PI:

Japan captures Taytay.

Another IJA attack is ordered at Manila:

Ground combat at Manila

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 120344 troops, 1021 guns, 215 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 2239

Defending force 35357 troops, 135 guns, 87 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 819

Japanese max assault: 1812 - adjusted assault: 1281

Allied max defense: 704 - adjusted defense: 1597

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese ground losses:
1335 casualties reported
Guns lost 29
Vehicles lost 5

Allied ground losses:
1265 casualties reported
Guns lost 13
Vehicles lost 2

Japan is a lot closer to 1:1 odds here so Im not sure how much longer I can hold out. I have 4000+ supply at Manila but the LCUs dont seem to be using it....maybe 2-3 LCUs out of 20 are carrying some supply.

DEI:

Japan finally captured Kuching a couple of days ago after bombarding it with some BBs.

Japan sent a 5 BB bombardment group to hit Menado....obviously he thinks Im flying supply transport to Manila out of there but there is nothing there but recon AC:

Naval bombardment of Menado, at 39,67

Japanese Ships
DD Sanae
DD Wakatake
DD Yakaze
DD Sawakaze
DD Mikazuki
CL Oi
CL Kitakami
BB Hyuga
BB Ise
BB Yamashiro
BB Fuso
BB Nagato

Allied ground losses:
267 casualties reported
Guns lost 1
Vehicles lost 2

Airbase hits 2
Airbase supply hits 4
Runway hits 32
Port fuel hits 2
Port supply hits 1

Japan sent bombers against Tarakan again in an attempt to prevent aerial resupply of Manila and I now have almost 30 damaged LB-30s on the ground there:

Day Air attack on Tarakan , at 33,61

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 8
G3M Nell x 17

Allied aircraft
no flights

Japanese aircraft losses
G3M Nell: 1 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
LB-30 Liberator: 1 destroyed

Airbase hits 1
Runway hits 8

For the first time in over a month KB is spotted and appears to be escorting transport TFs to Amboina. Here is a screenshot of the action in the southern DEI:

THE USAAF STRIKES BACK

Post by racndoc »

SITUATION REPORT: 3-7-42

THE AIR WAR

After weeks of non-stop bombing by Japan in China, Singapore and Manila the Allies strike back.

Japan had been bombing Wuchow for the last 3 days to suppress Allied transports from flying supply into Manila. Today Hurricanes staged into Wuchow and got the better of the Tojos:

Day Air attack on Wuchow , at 42,39

Japanese aircraft
Ki-44-IIb Tojo x 6
Ki-51 Sonia x 24
Ki-21 Sally x 26
Ki-15 Babs x 4

Allied aircraft
Hurricane II x 28
I-153c x 17

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-44-IIb Tojo: 3 destroyed
Ki-51 Sonia: 12 destroyed
Ki-21 Sally: 3 destroyed, 4 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
Hurricane II: 2 destroyed, 2 damaged
I-153c: 2 destroyed, 7 damaged

Airbase hits 1
Airbase supply hits 1
Runway hits 8

USAAF bombers staged back into Singapore to exact revenge for the Japanese 191 A6M2 fighter sweep that ravaged the Far Eastern Fighter Force a couple of weeks ago.

First the heavy bombers put a hurt on the largest Japanese airfield in SE Asia at Saigon:

Day Air attack on Saigon , at 31,46

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 27
Ki-27 Nate x 4
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 38

Allied aircraft
B-17C Fortress x 12
B-17E Fortress x 132
LB-30 Liberator x 60

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 34 destroyed
Ki-27 Nate: 1 damaged
Ki-43-Ib Oscar: 12 destroyed, 14 damaged
Ki-21 Sally: 4 destroyed
G4M1 Betty: 1 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
B-17C Fortress: 1 destroyed
B-17E Fortress: 16 destroyed, 52 damaged
LB-30 Liberator: 3 destroyed, 14 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
579 casualties reported
Guns lost 11

Airbase hits 37
Airbase supply hits 8
Runway hits 189

Then the medium bombers worked over Khota Bharu:

Day Air attack on Khota Bharu , at 24,45

Japanese aircraft
no flights

Allied aircraft
B-25C Mitchell x 45
B-26B Marauder x 59

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-46-II Dinah: 1 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
B-25C Mitchell: 2 damaged
B-26B Marauder: 1 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
146 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Airbase hits 14
Airbase supply hits 4
Runway hits 104

Saigon is now 45% damaged and Khota Bharu is 78% damaged. 27 Allied AC were lost in A2A combat vs 33 Japanese AC. Altogether, Japan loses 123 AC today vs 35 Allied. Losses include 60 A6M2s, 25 Oscars, 12 Sallys, 12 Sonias, 8 Bettys, 18 B-17Es and 10 LB-30s. Japan has now lost 339 A6M2s in the first 3 months of the war...about 113 per month. Even with increased Zero production it will be awhile before Tophat can convert all his Claude daitais.

PI:

Japan invades Zoamboanga today.

Manila continues to hold out against repeated IJA attacks. Supply is down to 3200 but I think my boys there can hold out for a couple more weeks.

MALAYA:

Singapore is holding up well for the Allies. Everytime Japan attacks they knock down the Allied AV 50-75 points but it seems to recover 25 AV points per day. In contrast, Japan is short on supplies and has trouble undisrupting its units let alone take on replacements. Singapore should hold out well into April.

SOUTH PACIFIC:

The Allies have massed over 5 divisions and 300 AC into New Caledonia and the New Hebrides. La Foa, Koumac and Luganville have all been enlarged into level 2 airstrips and Noumea is now level 5. As the Japanese have been held up at both Manila and Singapore SWPAC has made the decision to hold Port Moresby. A massive resupply/reinforcement operation is currently in progress there:

RE: DESTRUCTION OF THE FAR EASTERN FIGHTER FORCE

Post by racndoc »

SITUATION REPORT: 3-8-42

MALAYA:

Thunderstorms over Indochina prevent a return strike at Saigon by USAAF heavy bombers.

The Japanese launch a fighter sweep over Singapore with Oscars as the decimated A6M2 daitais attempt to rebuild:

Day Air attack on Singapore , at 23,50

Japanese aircraft
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 32

Allied aircraft
F4F-3 Wildcat x 22
Hurricane II x 21
P-40B Tomahawk x 12
P-40E Warhawk x 30

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-43-Ib Oscar: 8 destroyed, 1 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
F4F-3 Wildcat: 4 destroyed, 2 damaged
Hurricane II: 2 destroyed, 2 damaged
P-40E Warhawk: 1 destroyed, 1 damaged

Japan again assaults Singapore only to be repelled with heavy casualties:

Ground combat at Singapore

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 118896 troops, 747 guns, 9 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 1847

Defending force 61357 troops, 382 guns, 12 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 933

Japanese max assault: 2268 - adjusted assault: 1028

Allied max defense: 966 - adjusted defense: 1708

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 4)

Japanese ground losses:
3460 casualties reported
Guns lost 66

Allied ground losses:
1624 casualties reported
Guns lost 61

Tophat still isnt close to achieving 1:1 odds here.

The Allies continue to interdict the Japanese supply line at Johore Bharu with medium bombers while Singapore LCUs bombard on a daily basis to expend Japanese supply.

Here is a screenshot of comparative losses after 3 months of war. Notice that Japan has lost 25% more AC than the Allies:

JAPANESE AIRPOWER DESTROYED IN THE EAST

Post by racndoc »

SITUATION REPORT: 3-9-42

THE AIR WAR

After a day off for bad weather, the USAAF heavy bombers hit Saigon and complete the devastation of the airbase there:

Day Air attack on Saigon , at 31,46

Japanese aircraft
Ki-27 Nate x 6
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 12

Allied aircraft
B-17E Fortress x 106
LB-30 Liberator x 36

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-27 Nate: 5 damaged

G4M1 Betty: 7 destroyed
Ki-21 Sally: 7 destroyed
Ki-57-II Topsy: 3 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses

LB-30 Liberator: 1 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
260 casualties reported
Guns lost 7

Airbase hits 14
Airbase supply hits 4
Runway hits 174

Japan loses another 168 AC today vs 2 Allied AC. Japanese losses include 94 A6M2s, 32 Oscars, 16 Bettys and 14 Sallys. Tophat described it as "the destruction of Japanese airpower in the east" and told me that completing the capture of Singapore and invasion of Java would be postponed indefinitely. The airbase at Saigon is now 100% damaged.

But with a Japanese A6M2 replacement rate of approximately 180 AC per month, I look at this as having been given a 2 week respite in the air war. Tophat informed me that he was now going to crank up A6M2 production dramatically and speed up R&D on the Tonys and Togos to deal with the 4E menace.

Im withdrawing the heavy bombers now to Java to continue interdiction of supply to Japanese grounds units besieging Singapore.

PI:

Japan captures Zamboanga.

Another Japanese assault is launched at Manila and for the first time in the war Japan achieves 1:1 odds there:

Ground combat at Manila

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 141410 troops, 1116 guns, 212 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 2492

Defending force 29134 troops, 59 guns, 64 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 677

Japanese max assault: 2435 - adjusted assault: 2211

Allied max defense: 572 - adjusted defense: 1757

Japanese assault odds: 1 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 0

Japanese ground losses:
2696 casualties reported
Guns lost 63
Vehicles lost 7

Allied ground losses:
894 casualties reported
Guns lost 4

The end is near in Manila.

THE BATTLE FOR MANILA

Post by racndoc »

SITUATION REPORT: 3-15-42 THE BATTLE FOR MANILA

OPERATION REFORGER....the resupply of Manila began 4 days ago. With Manila reduced to around 1000 supply and the Japanese finally attaining 1:1 odds there a major resupply operation began with 7 fully loaded AKs ordered to sail there. 4 AKs have been sunk but 2 have arrived and are currently unloading with a 3rd on the way. Over 7000 supply has been offloaded and the individual LCUs at Manila sucked up supply for the first time in over a month.

To cover one of the most critical opererations of the war to date 25 P-40Es were staged into Bataan to provide LRCAP over the transports unloading at at Manila. The P-40Es fought off repeated level bomber and divebomber attacks today:

Day Air attack on Manila , at 43,52

Japanese aircraft
Ki-49 Helen x 52
Ki-15 Babs x 3

Allied aircraft
P-40E Warhawk x 15

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-49 Helen: 2 destroyed, 4 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
P-40E Warhawk: 7 damaged

Allied ground losses:

Allied aircraft losses
P-40E Warhawk: 2 damaged

Allied ground losses:

Meanwhile Japanese naval bombers based at Jolo interdict Allied AKs on the way to Manila in the South China Sea:

Day Air attack on TF at 38,54

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 5
G3M Nell x 6

No Japanese losses

Allied Ships
AK Sibolga, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage

At the same time USAAF B-17s attempt to suppress the Japanese naval bombers at Jolo:

Day Air attack on Jolo , at 38,59

Japanese aircraft
no flights

Allied aircraft
B-17E Fortress x 42

Japanese aircraft losses
L2D2 Tabby: 3 destroyed
Ki-46-II Dinah: 3 destroyed
G3M Nell: 3 destroyed

Japanese ground losses:
6 casualties reported

Airbase hits 4
Airbase supply hits 4
Runway hits 27

Japan loses 30 AC today vs 4 Allied AC. The valiant P-40Es at Bataan destroy 7 Helens, 9 Marys, 7 Bettys and a Nell over Manila at a cost of 2 P-40Es.

So far in the war Japan has lost 1578 AC vs 1104 Allied....about 40% more.

The hopelessly outmatched P-40Es at Bataan are ordered to LRCAP over the offloading transports at Manila tomorrow. Japan will surely send overwhelming force to annihilate them...but supply must get through to Manila and the P-40s are Expendable.

In spite of the heroic resupply and aerial defense of Manila the following combat report was received today from Tokyo Rose:

Ground combat at Manila

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 133482 troops, 1013 guns, 204 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 2339

Defending force 26952 troops, 49 guns, 62 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 583

Japanese max assault: 1958 - adjusted assault: 2338

Allied max defense: 521 - adjusted defense: 1113

Japanese assault odds: 2 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese forces CAPTURE Manila base !!!

Japanese ground losses:
598 casualties reported
Guns lost 25
Vehicles lost 2

Allied ground losses:
51369 casualties reported
Guns lost 172
Vehicles lost 36

Over 51,000 Allied troops are marched off into captivity.

BUT WAIT !!!!!!!!! Evidently the previous combat report was purely propaganda or the report was out of synch because Manila STILL HOLDS!

Look at the next day's screen shot....the Allies STILL control Manila:
