Ron....yeah...China is nuts. Who is surrounding whom? My Chinese troops have already liberated Nanchang and I have 6 artillery regiments on the march to create havoc for the IJA.

I really like the detail of the game....it adds a lot of richness to the simulation. Just a few examples:

1) The Andrew Brown Map reduces the Japanese ability to Panzerblitz China and creates opportunities for Chinese counteroffensives
2)OOB...The Brits start with a MLE in the Far East...move it to Soerabaja and the Allies can mine the entire SRA
3)OOB...The Allies start with several new plane types...P-43 Lancers, P-38F Lightnings and F-4 Lightnings to name a few
4)Clemson Class flushdeck DDs can upgrade on 1/1/42 from ASW 4 and AA 16 to ASW 8 and AA 65 plus SG radar...cant wait to get these ships into action after repairing the upgrade damage.


SITUATION REPORT: 1-11-42

PI:

MALAYA:

Japan shock attacks its way to within 60 miles of Johore Bharu. Here is a screenshot of Malaya and the South China Sea. A bombardment TF with 5 BBs menaces Palembang while a large CV TF sinks Coastal Class ships attempting to resupply Manila:

Very interesting AAR, particularly as I am currently playing the same mod/map/version mix as Allies in 2 games. One game is going well and the other is a struggle.

I'm surprised your opponent didn't push into Kuching. My primary opponent moved huge naval forces (including KB) into DEI (North and South) fast, around the 20th of December. He has wreaked unbelievable havoc there.

jwxspoon....I agree with you.....I think that Kuching should be a very key EARLY war objective for Japan. Capturing Kuching is critical in interdicting the sea lanes into Singapore. Im not sure why Texas Tigercat has been so cautious in that area...possibly he was concerned about the conentration of Allied land based air there. With the arrival of KB though he should be able to invade NW Borneo irrespective of any Allied opposition.


SITUATION REPORT: 1-12-42 THE JAVA SEA


Over the first 5 weeks of the war the Allied transports have been working the Java Sea with impunity....moving oil and resources out of Palembang and Balikpapan and moving oil, resouces and supply into Singapore. Singapore supply is currently over 43,000 with thousands more oil and resource points that will be converted into supply by the HI over time. Also with the arrival of the RN MLE into Soerabaja the 2nd week of the war the minelayers(10-15 in number) have been busy laying mines at ports throughout the Java Sea and indeed the entire DEI.

Now KB arrives at the northern entrance to the Java Sea. Scores of Allied transports and minelayers flee before KB in case KB is interested in a commerce sweep. If KB's intention is to attrition Allied land based air and suppress Batavia the Allies are waiting with over 300 fighters and bombers in northern Java.

Beware of keeping your AC in Batavia.. I've lost many of them to bombardments before. I would reccomend moving back to Bandoeng.

Alikchi...thanks for the advice. If Texas Tigercat sends the IJN BBs to bombard Batavia they are going to have to fight their way past 2 PT boat TFs, a MSW surface TF and over 1000 mines. And 40 torpedo bombers are based at Bandoeng just in case his BBs show up.

CBI:

SEAC troops are ordered to shock attack the Japanese paratroopers at Magwe.

18th UK Division begins unloading at Rangoon.

CV Indomitable showed up at Aden port yesterday. Her AC complement is vastly changed from stock scenario 15......she now carrries 16 Sea Hurricanes, 16 Fulmars(which will be upgraded to Hurricanes when she makes port at Colombo) and 9 Albacore. With an AC capacity of 54 she can hold more. A couple more RN CVs like this and they can easily engage Baby KB.

Chinese troops investing Ichang are ordered to launch a massive shock attack today.


JAVA SEA:

All quiet now at KB returns to port. The transports are back at it carrying supplkies, resources and oil into Singapore.


SOUTH PACIFIC:

Japanese expansion has slowed in the Admiralty/Bismarck/Solomons area.

Allied troops, planes and materiel continue to pour into New Caledonia. Reinforcements are also arriving at Canton and Palmyra.

With the primitive road net to the west of Ichang not only is it difficult for the Chinese to supply their troops in Ichang but Japan can redeploy their reserves more rapidly as has occured here. Obviously a continued Chinese offensive here is doomed to failure but thats ok with me....Japan will have the same issues if they attempt to take Chungking form this direction.

The Chinese continue to mass 60 miles NW of Kiukiang for a major counteroffensive to eliminate the threatening Japanese bridgehead there. Here is a screenshot of the action all across the CBI:

SITUATION REPORT: 1-20-42


MALAYA:

IJA troops captured Johore Bharu yesterday as the remainder of the Allied forces were pushed across the causeway into Singapore. Singapore fortifications have reached level 7 and there is enough supply/oil/resources to withstand a lengthy siege. SEAC may attempt to withdraw one of the elite Aussie AIF brigades and and a RAF HQ to bolster ABDA's defense efforts in the DEI.


PI:

Japan finally overruns the valiant defenders at Bataan. Nearly 7000 Allied troops are captured and the Japanese herd them north towards prison camps in northern Luzon in what will be recorded as the "Bataan Death March". General MacArthur digs in with over 72,000 troops at "Fortress Manila" in hopes of holding out until help arrives.


CBI:

The RAF pounds the Japanese airfield at Lashio destroying most of the Topsy transports there. It looks as if the Japanese paratroopers will be stranded there to meet their fate as 6 Chinese divisions close in from the east and 18th UK Division and numerous SEAC brigades and armoured regiments close in from the west.

The greatest concentration of Chinese artillery in my 8 PBEM games occurs as the Chinese attempt to reduce the IJA bridgehead 60 miles NW of Kiukiang. In CHS China has an OOB with 20 artillery regiments but unfortunately most are static at Chungking....Chiang's private artillery park. The normal Chinese Corps has a TOE of 6 75mm guns. Here China Command has massed 10 corps with 60 75mm guns and another 5 artillery regiments with a total of 120 75mm guns to hammer away at 2+ IJA divisions. The Chinese just miss achieving 2:1 odds on the Japanese:

I never had the time before to wait for the land combat to work out to see the final odds. This new v1.8 feature is great for showing the actual combat odds. More troops are on the way and I am optimistic that the Japanese will be forced back into Kiukiang eventually.

Meanwhile, Japan has been unsuccessfully trying to mop up my guerilla corps that literally blanket all of his supply lines back to the Chinese coast. Here is an example of a typical IJA attack on a guerilla corps:

Singapore now has over 50,000 supply, 25,000 resources and 15,000 oil stockpiled....I think it can hold out at least into June.


SUPPLY AND RESOURCES IN CHS

It seems as if CHS has toned down the Allied fuel and supply stockpiles in Java(I actually exhausted my fuel in Soerabaja) but there is still way too much supply and resources floating around the SRA. My tanker TFs cant pull oil out of Palembang quickly enough...I have over 100,000 oil stockpiled at Perth with 25,000 more at Melbourne and Sydney and another 15,000 at Brisbane and there is still over a 100,000 oil backlog at Palembang....20 tankers cant keep up.

Ive got about 200,000 supply stockpiled in Java and even Toboali(an island off the coast of Palembang) is a flipping ATM machine for supplies and resources...I cant pull it out as fast as it piles up. Ron S. is correct about the overabundance of supply in the SRA. Its not Allied air units, naval units and LCUs that prevent Japan from overrunning the SRA....its the supply.

And oil production at Palembang seems bugged. At 600 oil per day Palembang should have produced 25,000 oil 6 weeks into the war. Ive extracted over 150,000 oil in 6 weeks from Palembang and there is STILL another 105,000 oil in storage.

This game looks like it will probably end the way my last half dozen vanilla scenario 15 PBEMs have ended...Japanese concession by February 1942 because they cant take Manila or Singapore. It almost seems as if the rest of the map doesnt matter.

Admiral Halsey had been offshore New Caledonia with CV Lexington, CV Saratoga, CV Yorktown and CV Enterprise covering the massive Allied buildup at Noumea.

Four days ago, PBYs spotted a Japanese invasion force at Tulagi. Admiral Halsey's carriers were ordered north at full speed to break up the invasion. The Tulagi invasion force escaped but just as the USN carriers arrived in the southern Solomons several more invasion TFs were spotted coming down the slot from Rabaul.......probable destination Guadalcanal.

An Allied surface TF was sent to guard the channel between Tulagi and Guadalcanal while the USN carriers intercepted the transports farther north. Over 140 SBDs repeatedly hit the Japanese transports:
