Which terrain set is default with III?  What we're looking at now?

Yes, this is the default terrain set for TOAW III. But it also ships with the "classic" terrain tiles and it's no problemo at all to switch back and forth as you see fit. Also, there are MODs available which can tailor your view to make it look like what you want.

Off topic:  One of the things I love about TOAW III is that the proficiency, supply, and readiness of the selected unit is at your fingertips....makes for a faster game since you no longer have to right click on the upper right window to get a readout of the units characteristics:

Eisenhower thinks that perhaps, since the Germans have amassed formidable defenses along the east coastal
roads, that perhaps the 4th Div could hold the enemy there by demonstrating ( minor probing attacks ) and
meanwhile the 90th Div could sneak around the Western edge of the lines and come up behind the Germans,
perhaps cut off their supply lines:

Hi!

So are you saying that we can make our own terrain mod as an option and not have to be switching files around, just select the terrain set you want to use?

Hi!

Noticed on the map that the fields seem to be hex independent.

Does the game not still mesh similiar terrain together (I assume it does looking at the forrests, marsh, etc.), or is this a new feature?

Ray (alias Lava)
I'm assuming that what you are referring to, is that some of the tiles are "contoured" while in others, the terrain extends in blocky fashion, straight out to the hex sides. This is a scenario design issue. If a scenario designer has the "auto-contour" feature turned off when he updates a map, then the hexes that he paints over with new terrain, will have the blocky tiles.

Larry,

Please start a Part 2 on this AAR. It is getting to be rather long in loading. Even for broadband.

The search order for grpaphcs files is...
AltGraphics/Scenario Name
Graphics/Scenario Name
AltGraphics
Graphics

You can throw anything you want into the AltGraphics directory, and it will overload what shipped with TOAW 3. A designer can also override as many graphics files as they want for an individual scenario, put it in Graphics/Scenario Name, and the new graphics will show up. You can override what they overrode if you want.

You will never have to overwrite what was shipped.
