Great reading guys!!
The essence of my original request is best summed up by moltov_billy:

"A single unit's performance in combat is seperate from it's ability to cooperate and work with units of other nationalities.
A german unit's abilities in combat are simulated in the engine, though difficulties in cooperation with other units are not. These are seperate things in the real world and as such should be seperated in the game."

And by Cabron66:

"In any case, I doubt very much any of this is on topic as the original poster was obviously only referring to the difficulties units from different military backgrounds would have when attempting to operate together. I am sure that this point would equally relate to a German unit attempting to coordinate their movements with an Italian or Rumanian unit, for example, as it would with a British unit attempting to work closely with an American unit. "

The rest is as BilH and Arjuna have said...i.e. pretty much covered off already. <although I'm not certain how soviet style echelon attacks are mimiced>
And I agree that new attack options, attack timings et al are probably more important but still this is something that should be addressed -- especially if we're introducing submarines into the battlezone [:D][:D]

Best Regards,

Rob.
So we're at war with the Russkies eh?? I suppose we really ought to invade or something. (Lonnnng pause while studying the map)
Hmmmm... big place ain't it??

Yes a very interesting discussion on submarines. Alas these won't be modelled in our series for a while yet. [:)]

Soviet echelon attacks are not covered as yet. Soviet doctrine is the big new feature for our first east front title Red Star Rising ( RSR ).

It's time to go way off topic ...

Anyone want to see some Aces of the Deep screenshots? In my last attack as Captain of U-54, I sank 5 merchants on a single attack and the escorts never came close to having me. Doenitz even pinned a medal on me back in port. :)

Are we talking about that first Win32 version, or even about the DOS version? No thanks! Yuck [;)]
In my last attack as Captain of U-54, I sank 5 merchants on a single attack and the escorts never came close to having me. Doenitz even pinned a medal on me back in port. :)

I used to play Silent Hunter, and the weapon officer's console had a switch to factor a merchant's/tanker's draft into the calculation: The torpedo could be set (once the freighter class had been identified by the player, gotta love realistic settings) to explode under the keel (magn. ignition), which used to break a ship instantly (if the bearing/depth was correct) in 2 pieces. [:D]
I got like 4 or 5 merchants that way, then 1 fat troop transport, and an auxiliary carrier, along with one of its guards, a DD destroyer.
I think it was during the invasion in Normandy, the channel was full of stuff. Pretty hard to get within attack range, though.
THAT was fun! [:)]

I think only 1 attack had been attempted (but aborted) during the first days, in reality, also, only 1 (one) torpedo speedboat commenced an attack (several runs) on warships of the invasion force on D-Day, I don't recall if they hit anything.
Several subs were ordered to break right through (using the snorkel) the "heavy traffic" caused by the massive invasion force a few days later, but the breakthrough attempts had been aborted. Just too many ships/guards. [:D]
