We all want to refight the war in the east because we all think we can do better than "uncle adolf" every time he opened his mouth, he drove the German Army further into total defeat. In the original Seconf Front, of the German player does really well, a message comes up something like; "Hitler devotes his efforts to tending to matters of State, Hoepner (or someone) takes over at OKW". That's the best thing that could ever have happenned in real life (for Germany), but Hitler couldn't butt out.
Regarding German equipment - especially tanks. I don't know the tate or readiness or the German army, but consider this: The 105mm gun in the original M1 (and the Leopard 1, Centurion, and M60A1/A3 and numerous other tanks) was a British Vickers design. The 120mm smoothbore on the M1A1 / A2, the Leopard 2 and a few others, is a German gun designed by Reinmetall. The US has not designed a decent tank gun since the 90mm gun on the M26 Pershing in 1944/45.
