The report is accurate. The Perth was disbanded in the port and got hit by a stray round from the bombardment.
Didn't doubt you, but i am glad to see the explanation... i guess i hadn't run across this before... actually, i HAVE had ships get hit by port bombardments, but i don't recall they were reported out this way... either it's they have redone the report since 1.6xx (which is the last time i think it happened to me) or i just didn't remember how it was reported out...

Either way, thanks for the info! [&o] [&o]

RE: The carrier battle that never was

Post by RUPD3658 »

Army bombers had reported several single ship TFs at Kwaj ranging fron AKs to MSWs so I sent 3 DDS up to investigate. Turns out that they were really subs and after running into a mine field the subs attacked and sank one of the DDS. The surviving sailors will be looking for the Army pilots when they return to base.

After having beed "Educated" by the Navy sailors, the Army bombers now know what a sub looks like and damaged 2 at Kwaj. There are now 2 ships reported in the port so the bombers are being sent next turn to hopefully finish them off.

LR CAP over Dili shot down a transport. My LCUs are moving though the jungle and should be there soon.

PT boats finally redeamed themselves and sank a DD at Wake.

Lautem has expanded to a lvl 4 AF so bombers and P-40Bs have moved in for a strike on Kendari. They will be supported by B-24s from Darwin. Hopefully they can coordinate the strike and minimize losses.

Kendari slammed!

Post by RUPD3658 »

The raid went even better than planned. The Japs had just moved in AC for what I can only assume was going to be used to attack Lautem and my bombers caught them on the ground. I have enoungh supplies left to go after the port today then I will have to withdraw the AC

I got lucky. It seems that Gordon moved the bombers in on the same turn I ordered the attack. It had been timed to take place on the first day of clear weather after the AF expanded to a 4. The lack of CAP was due to overcrowding at the base.

I suspect the base isn't overcrowded anymore, unless you count all the scrap metal laying about. [:D]

Air strike on Kendari port along with a surface raid destroyed a bunch of ships. The bombers will have to stand down for a few days while supplies are brought up to Lautem.

Gordon made a grab for Kai island. Surface forces have been sent to intercept.

Dili fell. I would love to move on Keopang but i have litle to no sea lift capacity in the area.

Sri Lanka was hit again. I have the LCUs in India for an invasion but no minesweepers. It may be a few months before I can make a move there

Surface raid on Ambonia was less than impressive. 2 Cls and 3 DDs bounce a convoy escorted by only 1 DD and only fire a few rounds before running away. The TF commander will be arrested for cowardness when he get back to port.

Yunan falls

Post by RUPD3658 »

Close to 200K POWs were taken with the fall of Yunan. Only Chungking remains and I have a feeling it is going to be garrisoned and the rest of the CEF is going to Russia or India.

In the South Pacific, an invasion force has departed for Lunga. I am hoping to take the base before all the freshly trained Zeros in China have a chance to relocate. My bombers hit Lunga's AF again and inflicted heavy losses but did not shut the base down. It could be a bloody landing.

The really annoying part of the turn was losing 3 patrol craft to subs when the patrol craft had been sent to hunt them [:@]

Fast transport raid on Kusaie Island ended in a stalemate. Hopefully I can bring up more troops before the landing force gets cut off

RE: Yunan falls

Post by RUPD3658 »

Allied CVs raided Lunga in advance of the invasion but failed to catch the Jap BB sighted last turn. Even this late into 1942 I am still losing Wildcats at a 2:1 ratio. The B-17/24s are blasting tons of Zeros on the ground but keep failing to shut the base down. There must be tons of Eng units here.

100 AK convoy trying to slip between PM and OZ got spotted and attacked by Bettys from PM and Rabaul. Hopefully most will make it to Darwin. If nothing else they may draw AC away from Lunga as Gordon may think they are in invasion force headed for PM.
