It would be interesting to know how your conquest of Port Moresby has past. You took a hole division for this mission, in my games I plan to use Hori regiment, Guards brigade and 1 Maizuru battalion, I think that, with help of 54 Bettys and 45 Zeroes at Rabaul + 4 CV's will be enough.
At the date, Dec 27th 1941, the 4th infantry division landing at Port Moresby, with 423 AV I think is enough to overwhelming the enemy positions (10 units identified). Port Moresby is capital for my planned defensive perimeter. Port Moresby have not fallen in my hands yet, but probably will falls tomorrow. 4 CV (KB) with 4 BB (2nd and 3rd BatDiv) with 8th Fleet Cruiser Force (Aoba, Kinugasa, Furutaka, Kako), all of them heavily escorted by DDs support the landings.
KB CAP downed near 30 transport aircrafts flying to Port Moresby from Australia mainland.
I could not risk my main operations with less forces. I ever remember my times like AFB and radio reports could be very dangerous for the japanese. If enemy would try to defend PM with his Carrier Force, I must to protect my AmphGroups with KB. After the landings end and PM falls, all carriers will back to Truk for refit and rearm for the next main operation.
23rd Air Flotilla deployed at Cagayan will be embarked to head to Ambon (when falls, of course), 21st Air Flotilla will landing at Tarakan to support naval/ground ops in South Borneo. 24th Air Flotilla at Truk, would be send to PM like main base. 22nd Air Flotilla awaiting embarked at Saigon to head to Kuching to support Sumatra landings, but this must to wait to air supperiority over Singapore/Malaya skies.
Any advise or comment wellcomed
thanks for the questions and comments Swenslim.
Best Regards.
