The tide is begining to turn and soon will be at ebb, so time to think and plan.

Overall we have done good. We have closed the Northern Australian Axis and the SWPAC Axis. They have shown not much interest so far in an Alutions approach.

That "just" leaves the Central Pacific, where they have been active and Burma.

This means they are limited ability to use mutual support and we can use interior lines to move stuff around.

So a Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities Threats anaylsis...

Strategic.
S. Combat forces nicely concentrated with 8 div and all the CV in the South Pacific. Fleet is largley intact, airforce largely intact and pilot training has created a bit of depth of experiance.

W The Army and Navy are concentrated in the Pacific, Burma is relatively weak.
Fuel availability is limiting operations in the Pacific.

O With the forces we have concentrated we can attack Australia, NZ or continue to clear out the Pacific.

T Burma, the North Pacific and central pacific are the likely threat axis. Loosing a couple of tankers will really limit us.

Burma
In general we are digging in nicely, but our overall troop numbers is only about 2 Div. The main force of around a Div is located in the jungle outside Lashio guarding against a large stack of Chinese.

We are keen to hold Akyab as long as possible as that limits their ability to hit targets with escorted strikes.

In the air a strong group will establish at Port Blair, around Rangoon and forward around Mandalay. We have around 200 fighters in the area and 100 netties. Chain Mai and Bangkok hold reseves of crews conducting training.

S We own the ground we intened to fight on and are digging in fairly well. We have a good variety of airbases with mutual support.

W Ground combat forces. Now that Port Blair has fallen an additional two regiments are available in Burma.

O Port blair gives us the opportunity to conduct air and sea strikes against thei lines of Communication into southern India.

T A large attack is the most dangerous threat, and Amphib is possible but very unlikely. An attack from China is probably the worst for us in the interim.

Key Information Requirements.

What allied units have been put into India (I.e Australian/ US) this helps us to understand a little what they may do. So far we have seen nothing...

What are the capabilities of the Chinese force on the border.



An active tactical air intelligence opperation is underway to detect build ups.

So far it looks like they are content to dig in in southern India and are not planning offensive operations any time soon...

Sumatra is ours but is lightly garrisioned, the bulk at Palembang and Oosthaven.

Java is still not secure. About 4 div are cleaning up the island.

East DEI islands are secure and relatively well defended against all but a major attack.

A strong point approach will be adopted in the DEI centred on mutually supporting lvl 4 air bases and two fleets.

S Long way for them to come with Nth Australia blocked. Requires a significant effort and long term planning that can be detected.

W Troop density means a landing on Java or in particular Sumatra can't be met on the beaches.

O Owning DEI gives us an ability to raid their seabourne LOC and coastal ports. This means we can attempt to distrupt (but not stop) forces concentrating.

T Key immediate threat is submarines. ASW efforts so far have been effective in limiting attacks. Long term there is a strong threat of attack, in particular against Sumatra.

How many R&D factories to you have assigned to Tojo??
It is a struggle to keep your pilot losses down with your Oscars once the Allies get some better pilots flying their planes. The Hurricanes had eaten my Oscars for lunch once the pilot experience was close to equal.

Here is my current production in early Oct 42 playing scenario 2.

Thank ny59, Tojo is a few months away yet (Sep)... not much we can do just at the moment... but we are developing some cunning plans... The reality is we can't stop them now, Akyab is too exposed... but we much prefer them blowing holes in that bit of turf, and denying it to them, then having them blow holes in the more important ground in Burma.

We will try to keep Akyab open, it is better to loose planes there, and usually recover the pilots, than sweeping their bases where we will loose both. We have enough depth of pilots to keep this up until better aircraft are available.

Akyab is 60 runway 35 service damaged. The air support is almost all out and only 3 damaged Oscar remain. The real battle begins now as we will try to get in an AA unit and another regiment of ground troops to make it a real tough nut to crack.

SWPAC
We own the SWPAC Theatre and are seting up a series of strong points using mutually supporting airfield clusters.

Rabaul is out "Truk" for a while as it is easier to defend from marrauding Allied CV's. It is a 7 Port 6 afld, 3 fort and has 150k in supplies, but fuel is scarse.

Port Moresby is held to deny it to the enemy.

Our main strong points are at Umboi Island/Finschaven area and the Tulagi/Lunga area. Others will be developed as the engineers finish in those locations.


S We own the ground to fight on, and we are prepositioning forces to ensure the enemy must attack with two divisions.

W SCTF support is limited at the moment. Need to also build Shortlands. B-17E can hit large parts of the area.

O Raiding of the OZ coast is relatively easy. We can also land at will.

T CV raids into out LOC and submarines. The later will increase
