It looks to me like your core units suffer because you have not upgraded them enough.

----

Your AAR is inspirational and have made me begun a new campaign game. [&o][:)]
That's high praise coming from a player of your caliber. [:)]

With respect to upgrading my units, I agree. My dilemma during deployment is do I want to fill an open core slot with a new unit or use those prestige points to upgrade an existing unit. I think I'm learning that it's better to upgrade existing units and have less than your full allotment of core units than to skip upgrading in favor or more units. Like all such choice there's a balance there, which I need to find.
Last time I played I did it the way that you do. Now I begun to upgrading as much as possible during set up. Then I buy new core units during the battle as reinforcements. That seem to save me points and I get new fresh units to continue my offence.

Remember that it is cheaper to upgrade to units in the same 'chain'.

Keep up the good work. [:)]

Edit: I would rate myself as a rookie when it comes to Panzer Corps. [:)]

The invasion will initially be conducted by three axis army groups (North, Center and South).

My command is Army Group Center and I have been given 23-days to capture Brest, Volkovvsk, Baranovichi, Vila, Minsk, Polotsk, Mogileu, Vitebsk and Smolensk. If I can accomplish this in 14 days (i.e., 2 weeks), I’ve been assured high praise, advancements and fame for my command (and myself).

I’m loaned (attached) 6 units (high lightened in yellow) and can deploy 28 units. I have 26 active and 5 inactive (i.e., previously destroyed and not yet reconstituted) core units. I’m allocated 2044 prestige points and have a lot of work to do and decisions to make during this deployment phase.

This is how I spent my 2044 prestige points during the deployment phase:
- Upgraded the 1st and 6th Panzers (1B and IIC) tanks to Panzer IVFs
- Reconstituted the 49th JU 87R TAC
- Upgraded the 9th and 10th Wehrmacht to Grenadiers
- Reconstituted the 36th Ground Artillery Unit
- Upgraded the 8th 10.5cm Ground Artillery Unit to 15cm
- Upgraded the 5th Bf 109E to Bf 109F fighters
- Upgraded the 16th JU87B TAC to 87R Dive Bombers
- Reconstituted the 27th Panzers (IVD)
- Reinforced as many units as possible above 10-steps (Note, all units needing reinforcements were reinforced using replacements up to 10-steps.)

My forces and deployed and are awaiting for the initiation of hostilities at 3:15 a.m. on Sunday, June 22, 1941. I’m told from the highest level is that all we need to do is to kick in the door and the whole rotten structure will come falling down.

Turn 1. June 22, 1941. Sunday 3:15 a.m. My forces push forward and encounter greater forces than I expected from the Soviets. I’m curious as to what they have to put in the air. Four Luftwaffe fighter units are ready to take on any of the Red Air Force that dares to show itself.

Turn 2. June 24, 1941. Clear (Dry). Well, the Red Air Force did show up in strength. The attached 20th Recon was destroyed in a counterattack with heavy air support. And near Brest, the 49th TAC (just reconstituted from its loss on turn 1 last campaign) was reduced to 3-steps. It’s gaining a reputation as an unlucky unit.

I decided to protect my vulnerable bombers (16th TAC, 49th TAC and 35th Strat) by flying them back to base. My four fighters (5th, 15th, 47th and 48th) and the 4th BF 110c manage to down 1 Red air unit (7th MiG). Otherwise, progress is slow!

Turn 3. June 26, 1941. Clear (Dry). 26th Gernadier, 1st and 27th Panzers distinguished themselves this turn. Brest is definitely turning out to be a tough nut to crack.

In the air, the Luftwaffe manages to down another Red unit, the 6th and inflicts heavy losses on the 30th and 36th bombers. So 2 of 8 Red Air units have been shot down and another 2 have been heavily damaged.

Turn 4. June 28, 1941. Clear (Dry). The Luftwaffe took care of the 10th Red Air Unit, leaving 5, which all rebased this turn.

Turn 5. June 30, 1941. Clear (Dry). Brest and Villa (2 objectives) fall and the Red 29th and 40th air units are reduced to 5 and 2 steps (respectively). Also, a forward airfield at Vila is captured.

More Soviet armor appears. Though the Red air force hasn’t been completely eliminated the Luftwaffe seems to have gained air the upper hand.
