The tough nut that is Manila is slowly being whittled down although it is coming at a cost. 56 Division bore the brunt and has to be pulled out of line and will now spend some time in R&R. The bulk of the lost squads and disablements came from this division. All other units are looking good and now it is time to bomb and bombard for a while until the AV builds up again.
Kido Butai, although powerful, was a raiding force, and this is exactly how the Japanese understood its usage. 'Shattered Sword'

Getting a torpedo into Cornwall was nice and should help to keep Todd on the back foot in the waters around India. Frustratingly tracker calls it as sunk but I hardly expect so.
The fall of Palembang came without any damage to the oil and refineries. Oscar fighters will immediately fly in to provide CAP although I do not expect that Todd will make any attempt to bomb it. So far Magwe has not received any attention and it is well in range of Calcutta if he should wish to strike. Todd is one to build up his forces before he unleashes.

Tracking
The east coast of India is about to become a focus of attention. An invasion force is on the way covered by a sizeable portion of the IJN. In the mean-time that TF which was spotted leaving Calcutta is still moving down the eastern sea board of India. I am intent of attempting an overnight intercept and we also have Akagi, Kaga and Hiryu + 2 CVL in the vicinity as well. The carriers and surface interceptors will travel the left side route whilst the invasion forces travel the right side track. The risk from LBA is there but I think it is worth the risk and if we do have interference we should be far enough away from their bases to water down the strength of any attack.

BAY OF BENGAL
Rear Admiral Nippa, Teizo and the ships and men of Task Force 3 are the toast of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Aided by moonlight of only 7% they pull off the hoped for intercept and proceed to put the British ships to the sword. Not to be outdone Nagumo makes sure that his planes complete the rout later in the day.
Todd has been feeling the hurt in this game (so far little joy from his perspective). He only just wrote last turn that he was reeling although it could be worse… he could be playing against John 3. The show of power by the IJN this turn has to hurt just a little bit more. If you keep in touch with Todd drop him a line. I’m sure he will appreciate some support for the moment.

Todd is understandably saddened by the naval misfortune near Madras. He is, however, a player for the long haul so he will pick himself up and dust himself off and move on. Besides he still has plenty of time on his side and I haven’t put a dent in any of his capital ships yet. Wonderful victory that it was it is but a bee sting for now. On an aside it was fun to hear Orphan Ann announce a great naval victory near Madras. She did overdo it a bit announcing the 2 aircrafts carriers, a battleship and many minor warships had been sunk.
After many warnings from the Soviets Todd reports that Stalin’s response to the fall of Lanchow was to crumple up the report and ask for a status report on Soviet troops. The ball is in Todd’s court on this one for the time being.

The turn coming up will see the IJA land on the east coast of India. Vizagapatnam and Cocanada are the initial targets. It seems that there are no minefields present as 3 minesweepers were send in today to check out the situation – nothing to report apparently. It also appears that all TFs are currently unspotted due to the weather. The minesweepers were operating under storms and severe storms. The transports have a 5 hex run in so have a limited amount of the time to start unloading after they arrive. The carriers will be 2 hexes away to provide CAP. Hopefully the choice of landing site will come as a surprise as I have been working a giving the impression that the area around Chittagong or Ceylon would be the targets. Assuming that all goes well the plan is to swing around and capture Madras (I want a decent port) before overwhelming Ceylon. I also have my eyes on landing somewhere in the north once the Allies have their attention fixed on central India. Lots to do with the end of the invasion bonus fast approaching.

Yamato shows off her awesome gunfire at Manila.
The invasion of India commences without too much bother other than troops lost overboard during landings. There is a no show of any kind of Allied response. Todd relayed that despite the recent attentions of KB in the Bay of Bengal he was thinking that my attention would be upon Australia. He hopes that my army will rattle around for a while and then starve. It will be a tussle here for both of us but I sense I may have achieved something of a surprise by choosing to invade India. It will, however, give Todd more licence to be creative in the Pacific.
104th Division storms the meagre defences at Hengyang and captures the city. While I do not have the forces available to exploit the capture it does give me a good future base to threaten the rear of Changsha… when the time comes.

Certainly a big day for the IJA with the fall of Manila, Djambi and Kanhsien. After a short break the cessation of the Manila siege will free up 4 tank regiments, 12 artillery units, 2 army HQs and 3 divisions for operations elsewhere. Sitting in the wings will be 7th and 56th Division and 65th Brigade. These three bore the brunt of the IJA losses and will need some time to repair before they are thrown back into the fray. 23rd and 24th Naval Garrison Units will be united with their respective Port Units to make up 2 new Special Base Units. I shall have to work out what gets to travel to the Indian adventure and what needs to stay in the Pacific. Cagayan also needs to be finished off to more or less complete the Philippines operation. As for Manila… quite the surprise. Only 3 port damage to repair and light industry completely intact and only minimal damage to resources. The repair shipyard is the only thing needing real attention as it is 100% ruined.
Djambi reveals all oil untouched and ready for use.
The fall of Kanhsien will free up a couple of divisions, an artillery unit and a HQ unit to move to Hengyang and assist with threatening Changsha from the rear flank. I expect the troops expelled from Kanhsein will flee to Kukong which will see 13 Chinese units holed up in Kukong. The airfield is already at 100% damaged so I will continue with the aerial pounding and leave those troops to hang on a limb for a while.
